As soon as she entered, the woman began to look around the house. Every time she came to an appliance she didn't recognize, she would stop and examine it.

The fish tank in the corner caught her attention even more. Pointing to a feature, she exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, is that coral? So many fish, this whole tank must have cost a lot of money!"

Yu Xi didn't respond, but Zhang Jinhua maintained the last shred of politeness and habitually replied, "These are all things Zeze likes."

"Where will I live in such a big house?" the woman asked, surprised but also delighted.

This time, Zhang Jinhua didn't speak, but waited for Yu Xi to reply.

Yu Xi didn't take her seriously at all. Pointing to the stairs leading to the rooftop storeroom, she casually said, "There's an empty bed next to the rooftop storeroom. You can stay there."

"Yu Xi, you really have no conscience. Do you know how hard it was for me to come all this way to find you? And you just let me stay there?" The woman instantly lost her temper and yelled at Yu Xi as usual.

Yu Xi also became interested and walked to her side, saying, "You can choose not to stay. I didn't force you to stay. Who was it that kept pestering me to come in? Now that I'm kindly taking you in, you're acting all high and mighty."

The last sentence suddenly reminded her of the first time she took Yu Xi home. She pointed to the drafty room and yelled, "Now that I'm kindly taking you in, you're acting all high and mighty!"

At that time, Yu Xi had no choice but to stay in that drafty room with only an old wooden bed, and she lived there for half a year.

She has no way to leave now, but she is unwilling to leave until the mission is accomplished.

Fearing that Yu Xi might change her mind and have her kicked out, the woman pretended to be arrogant, shoved her aside, and walked straight up the stairs, saying, "Fine, I'll stay. Who's afraid of who?"

Yu Xi smiled and didn't say anything more. After watching her go upstairs, she turned her head and gave Zhang Jinhua a look, and the latter immediately understood what she meant.

The best way to get a woman to leave this house is not to passively drive her away, but to make her leave on her own initiative.

Sun Shuhan must have told the woman everything about Chen Miao before she arrived.

Yu Xi began to miss the ghost. If he were still here, perhaps he wouldn't have to go through so much trouble to bother people; he could have handled it all by himself.

Upstairs, Yu Xi, unusually, picked up a storybook, lay down on one side of Meng Qingze's small bed, and began to tell him a story.

Meng Qingze peeked out from under the covers, a sweet smile on his face. Before Yu Xi started reading the story, he whispered, "Mom, are you done with work today?"

"Mmm," Yu Xi replied, still feeling a little guilty towards him. The storybook in her hand was very new, with almost no creases from being turned over.

Meng Qingze was long past the age where he needed stories to lull him to sleep, but she was too busy with work and neglected his growth.

"Great! Then Mom can spend more time with me today." Meng Qingze stood up happily, and the blanket with the little rabbit sheet that had been covering him was pulled aside.

The person, who was only wearing pajamas, was too excited to sleep. Yu Xi straightened the blankets again and said, "Lie down quickly, or you'll catch a cold."

Meng Qingze obediently lay back down. He took the storybook from Yu Xi's hand, moved closer to her, and whispered, "Mom, I don't want to hear a story. Aunt Zhang has told me stories many times already. I want to hear Mom's story."

Yu Xi didn't expect him to say that, and laughed, "A story about Mom?"

The little guy nodded. "Yes, Mom can tell Zeze if she has anything that makes her unhappy or happy at work. I'm happy to hear Mom talk about these things. I can also tell Mom about things that make me happy or unhappy at school."

Meng Chou had said something similar to her before.

At that time, Jinxuexiao had just been founded, and the two were often so busy that they didn't see each other all day long. Only when they got home, washed up, and lay down in bed did time truly belong to them.

She was often overwhelmed by all sorts of trivial matters and would always complain to Meng Chou. After a while, Yu Xi cautiously asked, "Don't you get annoyed if I tell you these things every day?"

Meng Chou brushed the stray hairs from her cheek behind her ear, hugged her tightly from behind, buried his face in the crook of her neck, feeling her unique scent, and said in a slightly muffled voice, "How could that be? I was afraid you wouldn't tell me these things."

"Really?" As Yu Xi turned around, Meng Chou loosened his grip on her slender waist, and she easily turned around.

In the darkness, their breaths mingled. Looking at his blurry outline, Yu Xi continued to ask, "Don't you think I'm being long-winded?"

"No," Meng Chou replied affirmatively.

"Little Fish, you can tell me anything that makes you unhappy or happy. I'm happy to listen to you talk about these things. I can also tell you about the happy or unhappy things at work."

"We're family, why would I find you annoying?"

"I will always be Little Fish's listener."

"Zeze is willing to listen to his mother."

These similar words reappeared in different scenarios, and Yu Xi had a moment of realization.

She seemed to understand why Meng Chou had risked his life to save her and the child.

"Okay, Mom promises you." Yu Xi pulled him into her arms.

At the same time, the people in the attic also began preparations.

The lights in the villa rooms were all turned off, leaving only some nightlights emitting a faint glow and pumpkin-shaped decorative lights in the corridor.

The woman lay on the bed, but couldn't fall asleep. She clutched the talisman tightly in her hand, and the secret Sun Shuhan had told her kept echoing in her mind.

"You don't know? Yu Xi is being haunted by a ghost. That ghost lives in her house. I even invited a master to go and see, but it didn't work. We can't get rid of it. It's really creepy."

"I'll give you two talismans, you must keep them safe. I got them from a master, they might save your life in a critical moment. I carry them with me every day now."

“I’ve seen that ghost before, and I’m terrified of it. I’m afraid it will come looking for revenge if I don’t bring it with me.”

The woman didn't believe it at all, but she still accepted the talisman handed to her. However, ever since she entered the room on the top floor, more and more strange things began to happen.

The clothes she had laid out on the bed were now scattered all over it; even though there was no tap in the room, she could still hear the 'drip drip' sound of water.

The sound became even more noticeable in the dark, especially after she turned off the lights and went to bed.

A wave of fear and anxiety washed over her. Her eyes darted around, trying to pinpoint the direction of the sound. But the dripping sound seemed to be running all over the room; it sounded like a sound, yet it felt like a living thing.

The woman's mind conjured up images of all sorts of demons and monsters. Just as she was about to throw off the covers, get up, and turn on the light, a white figure 'whooshed' past the small window of the attic.

She immediately shrank back under the covers, muttering, "It's none of my business. The wronged should be held accountable. Don't come looking for me. Go find whoever owes you."

"I didn't do anything to you, don't come any closer, don't come any closer!"

As she was speaking, her head, which was covered by the blanket, was gently patted. The woman was so frightened that she threw off the blanket and ran away. She didn't even have time to put on her shoes. She retreated to the corner of the wall, and the talisman she was holding was crumpled up.

Yu Xi was wearing a white nightgown, her curly hair loosely draped over her shoulders. She held a flashlight in her hand, and the light shone directly onto the woman's face.

The latter squinted, not even seeing who it was. Her instinct of fear made her grab whatever was at hand and throw it in Yu Xi's direction.

Yu Xi nimbly dodged, and the thrown object didn't hurt her at all. She asked, "What are you doing in the middle of the night instead of sleeping? I can hear you from downstairs. Can you please be quiet?"

The woman recognized her voice, and her tense heart instantly relaxed. She slowly straightened up, leaning against the wall, and said, "You brat, don't you make a sound when you walk? And you're criticizing me? You're the one running around in this white nightgown in the middle of the night, are you trying to scare me to death?"

"you……"

Before the woman could finish speaking, Yu Xi suddenly turned around, facing her sideways, and reached out to grab the air beside her, as if pulling someone's hand, and walked out.

"Didn't I tell you that everyone's asleep at night, so you shouldn't wander around and I have to come looking for you? I have to get up early tomorrow, so I can't keep coming to find you."

Yu Xi spoke to the air beside her, and like leading a child, she took something that didn't exist beside her and walked out of the attic.

She didn't close the door, nor did she say a word to the woman; she simply tossed the lit flashlight onto the ground.

The light shone on the crammed clutter in the attic, casting shadows on the walls. The shadows of various items piled together, grotesque and deformed, as if a human face was hidden in the darkness, staring intently at her with pitch-black eyes.

The woman dared not say another word, and only then did she realize that Yu Xi's words were not directed at her.

There really are ghosts in this house, and Yu Xi has been bewitched by them.

That's exactly what Sun Shuhan said.

Now she finally believed it.

After Yu Xi left, the sound of dripping water in the room indeed stopped, and everything returned to calm.

This huge villa looks so warm and lively during the day, but at night it becomes a completely different story, so quiet that you can't see a single person.

The woman huddled in the corner, too afraid to go back to bed and continue sleeping, let alone close her eyes. Still shaken, she remained highly alert, observing everything around her.

The more this happens, the more terrifying everything seems.

She didn't dare to move quickly until dawn, and pulled her phone out from under her pillow. She glanced at the time: 5:32. It was too early; Sun Shuhan must not be up yet.

But she didn't have time to think about it and made a call.

The person on the other end took a long time to answer, and after answering, there was no sound. But the woman said impatiently, "Boss, I want to get things done today. I can't wait to stay here forever. I'll find a more suitable time."

"You have no idea what I saw last night. Is there really a ghost at Yu Xi's place? It was terrifying!"

Before yawning, Sun Shuhan scolded, "Are you stupid? If you do this today, everyone will immediately guess that it was you. You won't be able to explain yourself then."

The woman said, "If I get the job done and take the money, I'll leave naturally. Where will they find me then?"
