Zhou Mei's mother, Qin Suyun, was wearing a hospital gown. Her face was haggard but gentle. She was resting with her eyes closed. Her face was as pale as paper, and her breathing was as thin as a whisper. She appeared extremely weak.
Hearing the ward door open and footsteps, she slowly opened her eyes. A glimmer of light flashed in her eyes, a tenderness and relief unique to seeing her daughter.
"Mei'er, you've come."
"Mom, I've come to see you." Zhou Mei walked quickly to the bedside, her voice trembling slightly. She gently held her mother's hand, which was cold and thin, as if a gentle touch could reveal the fragility of life.
Qin Suyun forced a smile, a smile that held so many unspoken words: heartache for her daughter and reluctance to leave this world.
She knew her daughter was still in college; where could she possibly raise the money? She knew she couldn't possibly raise enough for the surgery. She was just barely surviving, waiting to die.
However, she couldn't bear to part with Zhou Mei. She hadn't seen her graduate from university, hadn't seen her get married, and there were still so many wishes left unfulfilled.
At this moment, Zhou Mei turned to the side, and Qin Suyun noticed that there was a handsome young man behind Zhou Mei.
Zhou Mei introduced Li Yi to her mother, saying, "Mom, this is Brother Li Yi. He heard you were sick, so he came to see you."
