Back at the inn, Tang Nian changed her clothes and went downstairs.
They were the only people at the inn.
The waiter brought out a table full of dishes, and Cui Wensong's eyes practically popped into them. He buried his face in the food and ate until his mouth was so full he couldn't even turn it around.
"Hey, eat slower!" Minghuan tried desperately to pull him away, but Cui Wensong didn't budge.
Tang Nian sat down next to Cui Wensong and winked at Ming Huan, who was sitting opposite her.
“He wouldn’t say anything, he just kept muttering to himself. I asked the waiter to bring some food, and that’s when he suddenly started acting like this.”
Ming Huan shrugged and casually picked up a leaf of vegetable and chewed it.
Tang Nian didn't pick up her chopsticks, nor did she touch the tea on the table.
She leaned close to Minghuan's ear and said, "Look at his belly."
Ming Huan's mouth stopped involuntarily when he saw it, and he stood there stunned with his mouth slightly open.
"It seems like she's pregnant?" Minghuan whispered, covering his mouth. "But there's no soul in his belly."
"what to do?"
"Let's wait and see," Tang Nian said calmly, glancing at Cui Wensong, who seemed oblivious to his hunger.
"But won't his stomach burst from eating like that?"
"Won't."
Cui Wensong was unaware of the strange looks exchanged between the female lead and Minghuan.
In just a short while, his stomach seemed to swell more and more; the more he ate, the bigger his stomach became.
Cui Wensong didn't realize he had eaten too much, and he only stopped when all the food on his plate was gone, still feeling unsatisfied.
At the same time, he started singing a lullaby while gently stroking his stomach.
The two exchanged a glance, both seeing wariness in each other's eyes.
The innkeeper and waiter were nowhere to be seen; only the three of them remained in the vast inn.
"Help him back to his room first." Tang Nian pursed her lips and stood up.
Minghuan, supporting his back, stood up and walked to Cui Wensong's side.
Tang Nian frowned: "What's wrong with your back?"
"No, maybe I used too much magic today."
Once upstairs, after finally settling Choi Moon-song in, they saw him caressing his stomach as if no one else was around, and the two of them had no choice but to stay in the room.
In the dim candlelight, Minghuan kept yawning, and a few tears rolled down his cheeks.
Feeling sleepy?
Ming Huan shook his head and then nodded.
Tang Nian pointed to the bed next to the door: "You rest on the bed first, I'll watch over him."
Ming Huan struggled to stay awake, but an overwhelming sense of drowsiness forced him to agree to Tang Nian's suggestion.
In the early hours of the morning, Cui Wensong lay quietly in bed, seemingly asleep, and Tang Nian also felt slightly sleepy.
Suddenly, Cui Wensong began to strangle himself, letting out heart-wrenching screams.
Tang Nian quickly stood up: "Cui Wensong! Relax!"
She gripped Choi Moon-song's shoulders, anxiously calling his name, trying to calm him down.
However, Choi Moon-song seemed to be controlled by an uncontrollable force, continuing to struggle and try to get rid of that excruciating pain.
His face was bluish-purple, but the veins on his hands were bulging as he gripped his own neck tightly and refused to let go.
Tang Nian took a deep breath, flipped her right hand into a palm, and slapped it heavily on Cui Wensong's shoulder.
In an instant, he was enveloped in pale blue light.
Time passed by, but Cui Wensong's condition showed no improvement.
Tang Nian gritted her teeth, flipped her hands, and formed a hand seal. A complex talisman appeared in the air. She pushed it hard, and the blue-glowing talisman was imprinted on Cui Wensong's chest.
As the light of the talisman gradually dimmed, Cui Wensong's body gradually calmed down.
He gradually stopped choking and shouting, and his breathing gradually returned to normal.
Tang Nian breathed a sigh of relief and withdrew her magic.
Seeing Cui Wensong lying exhausted on the bed, I was filled with worry and doubt.
She wiped the light sweat from her forehead and sat back down at the table.
In the oppressive atmosphere, the light coming through the window had somehow become equal to the candlelight, indicating that the strange night was finally over.
At cockcrow, Tang Nian blew out the candle, opened the window, and let the morning sunlight into the room.
Did this alley outside the inn look like this yesterday?
Ming Huan slowly woke up, rubbing his eyes, and turned over to see Tang Nian standing by the window.
"Sister Tang, what are you doing here?"
Tang Nian was taken aback: "You don't remember?"
"Remember what?" Minghuan rubbed his head and struggled to sit up. "Hiss... When did I get back to my room yesterday? Eh? When did Cui Wensong come back?"
Tang Nian's mind was in complete chaos, so she made up an excuse and went back to her room.
She closed the door, poured herself a glass of cold tea, raised it to her lips, then paused and poured the tea back into the teapot.
What exactly happened?
She had some ideas in mind.
After an unknown amount of time, Minghuan knocked on Tang Nian's door.
"Sister Tang, Cui Wensong has woken up."
Tang Nian followed Ming Huan to the next room and saw Cui Wensong, who was still in shock.
"How are you?"
Cui Wensong lay paralyzed on the bed, and after a while, his eyes darted around before he slowly sat up.
He propped himself up, with marks on his neck from strangulation, his face ashen, but his demeanor had returned to normal.
Compared to the other two, Tang Nian, who looked nervous, seemed more like the one with the problem.
"I just took a nap, how come Miss Tang is here?"
Tang Nian breathed a slight sigh of relief.
Cui Wensong frowned, threw off the covers, got out of bed, and put on his shoes.
His movements were fluid and nimble when he bent over, leaving his abdomen completely flat without any marks.
More importantly, he also knew nothing about what happened last night.
"So, none of you remember what happened last night?"
Seeing that Tang Nian's expression was not good, Cui Wensong quickly said, "I drank too much last night. If I was disrespectful to you, please forgive me."
Ming Huan frowned slightly and mumbled, "We ate together, and then he went back to his room to rest early. Sister Tang, you kept me chatting away. After that, I got sleepy and left you alone."
Seeing that Tang Nian's expression was getting worse, Ming Huan looked embarrassed and quickly tried to salvage the situation: "Perhaps I remembered wrong. I was really tired yesterday... What can I do for you, Sister Tang?"
Tang Nian simply shook her head.
Now that these two people's memories have been altered by something, she can no longer trust them. She simply notes the symptoms in her mind and tries to guess the intentions of the thing behind the scenes.
"Master Cui."
She turned to look at Cui Wensong and felt that he was very different today than yesterday. She tentatively asked, "Where was Madam Song usually at this time?"
Despite her interference yesterday, the person behind the scenes did not take any action against her, which means that what she is doing is still within their tolerance limits.
The only thing that cannot be left unsaid is what happened last night.
But why wasn't her memory altered?
Tang Nian didn't understand, but since that was the case, she continued to investigate.
When Song Shiyi was mentioned, Cui Wensong's face lit up with a happy smile, and his voice softened considerably: "She's an early riser, she's probably busy at the shop."
