Chapter 34 Speculation, Imprisonment

The scene of Tang Nian's injury that day was still vivid in my mind. I never expected that just a few days later, Tang Nian would not only be able to get out of bed, but also be beaming with joy.

"Your Majesty, the doctor said that I mostly have internal injuries and need to rest for a long time." After saying this, Tang Nian's body went limp and she almost couldn't stand up.

She hadn't forgotten the identity Lou Mu had given her.

Jingyao quickly stepped forward and helped the person to sit down: "Your Majesty, my young lady has been bedridden due to illness these past few days, and she finally managed to come out for some fresh air today."

Upon hearing this, the Empress Dowager frowned. She still had something to ask of Tang Nian. What if Tang Nian was ill?

Thinking it over, the Empress Dowager looked around at the servants and waved to them.

"I wish to catch up with Miss Tang. You may all leave now."

Jingyao wanted to stay, but Tang Nian looked up and gestured for her to leave. Suddenly, only the Empress Dowager and Tang Nian remained in the courtyard.

"Nian'er," the Empress Dowager grabbed Tang Nian's hand, her words earnest, "I used the talisman paper you gave me last time very well. Do you still have any left?"

The Empress Dowager had been having nightmares and was always restless these past few days. She used Tang Nian's talisman paper, and it worked very well.

For some reason, the talismans were used up very quickly, one or two sheets every night, whereas the talismans of the previous celestial masters never had this problem.

It just so happens that Tang Nian was injured these past few days, and she quickly ran out of her supplies. However, the Chu Emperor was keeping a close eye on her, and there were no other Celestial Masters in the entire capital city, so she came to ask Tang Nian for help.

Upon hearing this, Tang Nian coughed a few times, her face paling considerably: "As Your Majesty knows, I have been ill ever since I was injured that day. Drawing talismans requires spiritual power, and I simply do not have the energy."

After speaking, Tang Nian suddenly coughed again.

It's nothing else. If the peace charms and exorcism charms were only used for warding off evil spirits and protecting the home, they couldn't possibly be consumed so quickly. There must be some other problem.

The Empress Dowager saw all this but couldn't say anything.

"Since that's the case, once you're better, you must draw some more talismans for me."

Tang Nian nodded, a slight smile playing on her lips.

With her body, and the limited spiritual energy needed for drawing talismans, when she'll recover is entirely up to her.

"I won't bother you any longer, you should rest well."

Not long after, Jingyao came in, and Tang Nian knew that the Empress Dowager had left with her entourage.

Jingyao quickly asked, "What does the Empress Dowager need those talismans for?"

Foxes always have keen ears, so Tang Nian wasn't surprised at all that they could hear what the foxes were saying.

Tang Nian sneered: "The palace has been turned into a mess by Emperor Chu. Who knows what unclean things have entangled her with."

In this way, those talismans become largely useless.

However, Tang Nian had already left some spiritual energy on the Empress Dowager, so that if anything happened, it would be easier to detect it in time.

"By the way, where has Lou Mu gone these past few days?"

Jing Yao shook her head; she had never been qualified to inquire about Lou Mu's whereabouts.

Unable to get a result, Tang Nian could only wait.

Lou Mu returned late at night and ran into Tang Nian, who had just changed into her nightgown.

Tang Nian sat blankly on the bed, clearly startled by Lou Mu's action of pushing the door open and entering.

Lou Mu stood frozen by the door. Normally, Tang Nian wouldn't be asleep at this time, but he forgot that Tang Nian had been sick recently and needed to rest early. As soon as he opened the door, he saw that the person on the bed had her inner garment half open, slightly obscuring the view of her chest.

Noticing Lou Mu's burning gaze, Tang Nian grabbed her clothes and turned her back, her cheeks burning hot.

Lou Mu subconsciously turned his head and went to the table to pour himself a cup of tea to calm himself down.

"Where...where have you been lately?" Tang Nian asked as she wrapped her clothes around herself.

"I'll go and discuss countermeasures with the Third Prince."

The situation is dire. The Chu Emperor is keeping a closer eye on things, and the capital is in a state of panic because of the disappearance. They are already discussing forcing the emperor to abdicate.

When the conversation turned to important matters, the awkwardness between the two vanished, and Tang Nian quickly recounted what had happened to the Empress Dowager that morning.

“I think there might be something hidden behind the black cloak in the Empress Dowager’s dream.” Tang Nian mentioned the details and expressed her thoughts. “If it were an ordinary nightmare, there would be no need to use talismans. Even if you did, it wouldn’t help. Since the Empress Dowager said that my talismans were effective, it proves that she really encountered something.”

"It seems that the Chu Emperor has made some move again, and the Empress Dowager has also sensed something unusual."

As Tang Nian spoke, she got off the bed and sat down at the table.

“Because of the Empress Dowager’s opposition to the Emperor of Chu’s actions, and the fact that she has placed so many talismans in her Hall of Mental Cultivation, she has already been targeted by the Emperor of Chu and Master Wang.” Lou Mu said, then added, “It would be best if you didn’t go out these days.”

Tang Nian nodded subconsciously, then realized that she was about to be grounded again.

"It is precisely because of the turbulent situation that I have to go out and see."

Tang Nian hated Wang Tianshi to the core, and since he was connected to the underworld, he was not someone who could be easily killed.

Lou Mu was taken aback, but his tone left no room for doubt: "Your health is extremely poor right now, it would be best if you stayed in the manor to rest."

“What’s the use of staying in the manor?” Tang Nian asked anxiously. “Their target is me. Only if I step forward to lure them out can I find out their scheme.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Lou Mu's aura instantly turned cold.

"You're trying to lure the snake out of its hole? With your body, you're easily vulnerable to being poisoned. This time, I searched everywhere for a cure for the ghostly energy, but what about next time? What will you do if there's no way to deal with it?"

He can still save Tang Nian now, but who knows if there will be any accidents next time, or if he won't be able to save her.

Lou Mu poured out all his worries, and as he thought about it, he became increasingly angry that Tang Nian didn't care about his health.

Tang Nian was speechless. What she did was risk-free? It wouldn't be her nature to be cowardly because of risks.

Before Tang Nian could speak, Lou Mu called Jing Yao over.

"Keep a close eye on her recently, and never let her leave the gate of the manor."

Tang Nian's eyes widened.

Even if they don't let her leave the manor, they should at least keep their plans secret from her. How can they say it in front of others?

"I disagree!"

You have no choice but to agree.

Lou Mu glanced at Tang Nian, his tone carrying an air of undeniable authority.

"You have always acted rashly and without considering the consequences. Moreover, the ghostly energy in your body has not been removed. It is best for you to stay in the manor."

Tang, reckless and disregarding consequences, cursed Lou Mu in his heart several times, but said nothing aloud.

Lou Mu did save her these last few times, and she was in the wrong, so she couldn't say anything. But whether she could be locked up or not was another matter.

The person opposite her seemed to see through her thoughts and added, "If you run away, I will punish Jing Yao."

That cunning fox!

Tang Nian narrowed her eyes. When did Lou Mu come up with such a vicious strategy? Then, Tang Nian met Jing Yao's aggrieved gaze.

Jingyao has been taking good care of her these past few days, and she can't let Jingyao suffer any more.

Tang Nian glared at Lou Mu; this man had truly caught her red-handed!

Lou Mu ignored Tang Nian's gaze and soon placed a bottle of medicine on the table.

"This is the medicine I've been concocting these past few days; it can help you expel the evil spirits."
