Chapter 5: First Confrontation
A golden shield flickered across the room, casting Chu Yun's shadow against the wall. The deflected shadow twisted and distorted in midair, emitting a silent, furious roar. Li Ge stood in the corner of the room, watching Chu Yun suddenly appear. A flicker of surprise crossed her pale face, but then a cold composure returned. Chu Yun didn't look at her; his entire attention was focused on the shadow. "Evil demon, slay!" Chu Yun's voice was low, but each word carried a piercing chill. He took a step forward, his right hand raised to a sword, while his left hand swiftly drew a "Thunder and Fire Talisman" from his bosom. Without a moment's hesitation, he instantly channeled his inner strength into the talisman. "Command!" The talisman spontaneously ignited at his fingertips, transforming into a blinding flash of lightning that shot towards the shadow. The shadow, as if sensing a deadly threat, shrank to the side in an attempt to dodge, but the Thunder and Fire Talisman was too fast. "Boom!" Lightning exploded at the edge of the black shadow, sending countless tiny electric snakes scattering. The shadow let out a shrill scream, this time no longer silent, but resonating through the room, piercing the eardrums. Puffs of black smoke billowed from the area struck, and the entire form dimmed. It worked! Chu Yun's heart trembled, but he felt no joy at all. Instead, he became even more vigilant. He had used 30% of his strength in this attack, which should have been enough to shatter the soul of an ordinary minor demon, but this thing was only injured. It was even more formidable than he had imagined. The black shadow tumbled wildly in the air, seemingly completely enraged. It no longer attempted to attack Xiaoya on the bed, but instead focused all its malice on Chu Yun. "Hiss!" The shadow suddenly contracted, transforming into a sharp black arrow. With a shrieking sound that tore through the air, it flew straight towards Chu Yun's face at astonishing speed. Chu Yun's eyes fixed, but he did not flinch. He quickly formed a hand seal with his left hand and whispered, "Fortify!" The golden shield that had been blocking Xiaoya's bed instantly shifted in front of him. "Bang!" The sharp black arrow slammed into the golden shield, this time with a force several times greater than before. The shield shook violently, even cracks appearing on its surface. Chu Yun felt a massive recoil, causing his blood to surge through his chest, and he uncontrollably slipped back half a step. He forced himself to swallow the sweet, fishy sensation that welled up in his throat. The shadow, having failed to strike, instantly changed form. It dispersed with a thud, transforming into a thick black mist that instantly enveloped the entire room...
A golden shield flickered across the room, casting Chu Yun's shadow on the wall. The blasted shadow twisted and distorted in mid-air, emitting a silent, furious roar. Li Ge stood in the corner of the room, watching Chu Yun suddenly appear. A flicker of surprise crossed his pale face, but he quickly regained his cold composure.
Chu Yun didn't look at her, all his attention was focused on the black shadow.
"Evil spirit, behead!" Chu Yun's voice was low, but each word carried a chilling chill. He took a step forward, his right hand raised to a sword-like finger, while his left hand swiftly pulled a "Thunder and Fire Talisman" from his bosom. Without the slightest hesitation, he instantly poured his inner strength into the talisman.
"Imperial decree!"
The talisman spontaneously combusted at his fingertips, turning into a dazzling flash of lightning and shooting towards the black shadow.
The shadowy figure, as if sensing a mortal threat, shrank to the side in an attempt to evade the attack, but the Thunder and Fire Talisman was too fast. "Boom!" Lightning exploded at the shadow's edge, sending countless tiny electric snakes scattering. The shadowy figure let out a shrill scream, this time no longer silent, but resonating through the room, piercing the eardrums. Puffs of black smoke billowed from the struck area, and its entire form dimmed considerably.
It worked! Chu Yun's heart trembled, but he didn't feel the slightest bit of joy. Instead, he became even more vigilant. He had used 30% of his strength in this attack, which should have been enough to shatter the soul of an ordinary little demon, but this thing was only injured. It was even more difficult to deal with than he had imagined.
The black shadow tumbled wildly in the air, seemingly enraged. It no longer attempted to attack Xiaoya on the bed, instead focusing all its malice on Chu Yun. "Hiss—" the shadow suddenly shrank, transforming into a sharp black arrow. With a shrill, air-tearing sound, it flew straight towards Chu Yun's face at astonishing speed.
Chu Yun's eyes fixed, but he didn't dodge or evade. He quickly made a hand gesture with his left hand and whispered, "Consolidate!"
The golden shield blocking Xiaoya's bed instantly moved in front of him.
"Bang!"
The black arrow slammed heavily into the golden shield, this time with a force several times greater than before. The shield shook violently, even cracks appearing on its surface. Chu Yun felt a massive recoil, causing his blood to surge through his chest, and he uncontrollably slid back half a step. He forced himself to swallow the fishy, sweet taste that welled up in his throat.
The shadowy mass, unable to strike, immediately changed form. With a bang, it dispersed, transforming into a thick black mist that instantly enveloped the entire room. The light in the room suddenly dimmed to its absolute limit. Dozens of black tentacles stretched out from the mist, like venomous snakes, silently entwining themselves around Chu Yun from all directions.
Chu Yun snorted coldly. He knew this was a common trick used by evil spirits, using illusions to confuse their opponents before delivering a fatal blow. But he had righteousness to protect him, making him immune to all evil.
"Break!" Chu Yun put his fingers together and drew a simple rune in the air in front of him.
Golden light, centered around him, suddenly spread outward. "Sizzle!" All the black tentacles that came into contact with the golden light quickly melted away, as if burned by a branding iron, transforming into wisps of green smoke. The black fog that enveloped the room was completely dispelled by this pure power, revealing the demon's true form once again, appearing even dimmer and weaker than before.
Chu Yun didn't give it any breathing room. He stepped forward, his body moving like lightning, instantly closing the distance between him and the evil spirit. He grasped another talisman in his left hand, and a dazzling golden light condensed on the sword finger of his right hand. He intended to use the secret technique of the Evil Suppression Bureau to completely purify this thing.
Just when he was about to make a move, a figure appeared faster than him - it was Li Ge.
She had already moved to the side of the demon without knowing when. Her movements were not as loud and powerful as Chu Yun's, but as fast as lightning. She flipped her pale wrist, and five silver needles as thin as cow hair appeared between her fingers.
"Disperse." She said only one word.
Five silver needles flew out at the same time, without making any sound of breaking through the air, but seemed to ignore the distance in space and instantly pierced into five different positions of the demon's body.
The shadow's movements abruptly stopped, frozen in mid-air, like a frozen painting. Then, Li Ge approached, raising two pale fingers. A chilling, herbal scent lingered on her fingertips. With those two fingers, she gently tapped the spot between Yao Xie's eyebrows.
"receive."
Another word. The struggling black shadow suddenly shrank inward like a popped balloon, all the black energy being sucked in by Li Ge's fingers. In just two or three seconds, the ferocious demon disappeared without a trace, and the room returned to calm, as if nothing had happened.
Chu Yun froze in mid-air, the golden light condensing on his right sword finger slowly dissipating. For the first time, a look of shock crossed his face. He wasn't shocked by Li Ge's strength, but by her technique—it wasn't purification, nor was it sealing, but... absorption! She had actually absorbed the demon!
Chu Yun looked at Li Ge, his eyes instantly turning icy cold. His previous suspicions were confirmed: this woman was indeed the same kind of demon! Her actions just now were not about exorcising demons, but about... snatching spoils!
"What did you do?" Chu Yun's voice was filled with suppressed anger.
Li Ge didn't look at him. She slowly withdrew her hand, and the cold aura subsided. She glanced at her pale fingers, as if she was thinking about something. To Chu Yun, her appearance was undoubtedly a naked provocation.
"I told you not to interfere." Li Ge finally raised his head and looked at Chu Yun calmly, "Your method is too slow and too noisy."
"I ask you, what did you do to it?!" Chu Yun took a step forward, and the power in his body surged again.
"I handled it. In my own way." Li Ge's tone was still calm, as if he was just talking about a trivial matter.
"Deal with it?" Chu Yun laughed in anger. "You call that dealing with it? You're clearly taking it for yourself! What's the difference between your behavior and that of a demon?"
Facing Chu Yun's questioning, a trace of fluctuation finally appeared in Li Ge's eyes. It was a kind of... pity as if he was looking at an ignorant child.
"What do you know?" she said coldly. "You only know how to use your brute force to destroy it, but you have no idea what the root of this thing is. Your so-called purification is nothing more than the most basic method."
"Sweet words and flattering expressions!" Chu Yun stopped talking nonsense with her, and the Thunder Fire Talisman in his hand lit up again. "Since you refuse to speak, then I will capture you first and then slowly interrogate you!"
Before he finished speaking, a dazzling flash of lightning had already escaped his hand, heading straight for Li Ge's face. This time, Chu Yun didn't hold back. He attacked with rage, and the power of the Thunder and Fire Talisman was three times stronger than before when he used it against the evil spirit.
Li Ge stood still, neither dodging nor evading. Just as the lightning was about to strike her, her silhouette suddenly blurred, like a reflection in water, rippled by the wind. The lightning pierced through the blurry shadow and slammed heavily into the wall behind her. "Boom!" A massive hole was blasted through the wall, sending bricks and stones flying everywhere. Meanwhile, Li Ge had silently reappeared on the other side of the room, as if she had never moved.
"Your skills are pretty good." Chu Yun's eyes narrowed, and with a flip of his left hand, two more talismans appeared between his fingers. "But I want to see how many times you can dodge!"
He was about to attack again, "Enough." Li Ge's voice suddenly became extremely cold, even with a hint of impatience, "If you keep making trouble, this child will really be hopeless."
