Chapter 10 Tenderness (2/2)

The cool feeling brought by the ointment and the warmth of Xie Yun's fingers intertwined together, and a wonderful feeling spread in Zheng Wanqing's heart, causing a different kind of emotion to surge in her heart.

Zheng Wanqing's heart beat faster involuntarily as she watched him concentrate.

His breath brushed gently over her arms, making her feel itchy and numb.

She could clearly feel Xie Yun's breathing getting closer and closer, and the blush on her face became more and more obvious, spreading from her cheeks to the tips of her ears.

Just when the two of them were getting closer and closer, almost touching each other, Xie Yun suddenly stopped. He looked at Zheng Wanqing, a smile flashed in his eyes, and said in a doting voice: "The medicine is finished, you have a good rest. The office still has documents to approve."

Zheng Wanqing finally woke up from her dream, and the tips of her ears were red like ripe cherries. She nodded gently and said, "Well, go ahead."

Xie Yun stood up, carefully placed the medicine bowl on the table beside him, tucked the quilt for Zheng Wanqing before turning around and leaving.

Zheng Wanqing lay in bed for several days, and her pain gradually improved under Xie Yun's meticulous care.

What surprised her was that this usually resolute young commander actually moved all his official duties to the outer room of the bedroom, and personally watched her take and change her medicine every day, and even tested the temperature of the tea himself before passing it to her lips.

In the morning, Zheng Wanqing was leaning against the pavilion, lost in thought. The days of rain had finally cleared up, and the sun shone through the gaps between the sycamore leaves, casting tiny golden spots on the bluestone slabs.

Xie Yun came to the courtyard and saw her sitting in the pavilion staring at the flowers. He walked over to her with steady steps and sat down. "I know you love these flowers and plants, but you must be bored looking at these flowers in the courtyard all day long. I specially asked someone to bring a few pots of jasmine to add some elegance to this courtyard."

Zheng Wanqing raised her eyes and looked in the direction Xie Yun pointed, only to see servants carefully fiddling with several pots of fresh jasmine flowers.

The jasmine was planted in a plain white porcelain pot, with morning dew still on its tender green leaves. A bud had already slightly opened, dotted with tender yellow stamens, emitting a faint and elegant fragrance.

Zheng Wanqing looked at the jasmine flowers, the corners of her mouth slightly raised, and a warm feeling surged in her heart.

She reached out and touched it, feeling the velvety touch of the petals on her fingertips. Suddenly, she remembered the same jasmine flowers at her grandmother's house in Suzhou when she was a child. Her grandmother pinned them on her hair, saying that this flower was the best match for her clean temperament.

Xie Yun changed into an indigo-colored long gown with dark-patterned water waves embroidered on the hem, which made him look gentler and more elegant than the solemn and murderous aura he wore that day.

He walked over to the pots of jasmine flowers, leaned over and gently plucked one, pinned the pure white flower to Zheng Wanqing's temples, his fingertips accidentally brushing her earlobe.

"Do you like it?" His voice was lower than usual, and his eyes lingered on her face, from her trembling eyelashes to her tightly pursed lips, and finally fixed on the jasmine flower that trembled gently with her breathing.

Zheng Wanqing unconsciously raised her hand and touched the petals, and a little cool morning dew stained her fingertips.

The scent of jasmine became increasingly strong, lingering around the two of them, as if adding a unique touch of beauty to this quiet courtyard.

"Why did you come back so early yesterday?" She lowered her eyelashes and avoided the frightening gaze by adjusting her sleeves.

Xie Yun took half a step forward, and their shadows overlapped on the bluestone slab.

He took her hand and gently rubbed his thumb on the shallow scar on her wrist left by the rope. The warmth from his fingertips came through her skin, making Zheng Wanqing hold her breath.

"Qiuyu's son is back." He paused, his eyes wandering over her face, as if to confirm her condition, "I saw that you were in good spirits, so I thought of taking you somewhere."

Zheng Wanqing's heart skipped a beat. She looked at the dark look in Xie Yun's eyes and suddenly understood something. Then she nodded.

Xie Yun let go of her hand and instead supported her waist.

He ordered the butler waiting outside the Moon Cave Gate, "Prepare the car." His voice returned to its usual cold and solemn tone.
