Chapter 100 Familiarity

Dazhalan Street was bustling with people and the sounds of hawkers hawking could be heard one after another.

Zheng Wanqing held Bai Xiao's arm, and the two of them walked side by side through the bustling crowd.

Bai Xiao wore a camel-colored stand-up collared coat and skirt today. The thick woolen material shone softly in the winter sun. She only had an ebony hairpin in her hair, and the plain style made her look even more elegant and dignified.

The vendors selling candied haws on the street shouted, and the hot steam rising from the steamers blurred their figures.

A gust of cold wind blew, and Bai Xiao subconsciously tightened her collar.

"It's windy today, you should wear a scarf." Zheng Wanqing said as she tidied up her hair that was messed up by the wind.

Bai Xiao smiled slightly, with fine lines appearing at the corners of her eyes: "I'm used to standing in the school, so I don't feel cold." Her voice was gentle, with the clear pronunciation unique to teachers.

"You must take good care of yourself." Zheng Wanqing gently pinched Bai Xiao's wrist, with a sly light in her eyes, "Although Sister Bai Xiao is beautiful no matter what, I still look forward to meeting the most dazzling bride in Tianjin in April."

Bai Xiao's ears were suddenly tinged with crimson, and her fingers unconsciously twisted her sleeves: "Your brother must have said something nonsense again." Her voice was a little lower, but it couldn't hide the sweetness of her tone.

Zheng Wanqing looked at her like this and couldn't help laughing out loud: "No way." She deliberately dragged out the last syllable, "I'm just curious, how could a girl like Bai Xiao, who is so kind and gentle, fall in love with my brother's monkey-like personality?"

"You..." Bai Xiao shook her head helplessly, but there was tenderness in her eyes and eyebrows, "When it comes to feelings, there's no logic to it. I just... like you."

Zheng Wanqing pretended to tease her again, Bai Xiao hurriedly reached out to cover her mouth: "Stop talking, I... I'm not even married yet..." Even her neck turned a faint pink.

"Here, you are." Zheng Wanqing dodged her hand flexibly, her eyebrows curved, "You have been my sister-in-law for a long time."

As she finished speaking, she was suddenly attracted by the scene in the window of the street, and her eyes lit up: "Wow! That cake is so exquisite!"

As he said that, he let go of Bai Xiao's hand, turned around and ran over.

Bai Xiao stood there, looking at her excited back, the blush on her face had faded. She gently stroked the wooden hairpin in her hair, and the corners of her mouth rose unconsciously.

"Sister-in-law, look!" Zheng Wanqing suddenly grabbed Bai Xiao's sleeve and pointed at the exquisitely shaped cakes in the window, her eyes sparkling with joy. "This Western pastry shop is really novel. I heard that this is called cream cake, and it is made with milk and eggs."

The tip of her nose was almost touching the cold window glass, and the white breath she exhaled condensed into a small hazy mist on the glass.

Through this layer of mist, the beautifully shaped pastries look even more dreamy.

"Be careful with the steps." Bai Xiao hurriedly supported her slightly leaning forward body.

After Zheng Wanqing stood firm, Bai Xiao turned his gaze to the window.

I saw several beautifully decorated pastries neatly displayed behind the glass, with layers of snow-white cream stacked up like piles of first snow, dotted with bright red strawberries. The red and white colors alternated, and it was very beautiful.

A sweet aroma wafted out from the half-open shop door, mixed with the unique burnt aroma of sugar-roasted chestnuts on the street, interweaving into a mouth-watering flavor in the cold air.

"Brother gave me a lot of money." Zheng Wanqing winked cunningly and took out her purse and shook it in front of Bai Xiao.

Bai Xiao looked at her excited look and couldn't help shaking her head and laughing. She reached out and gently held her hand that was about to push the door: "No hurry, let's go to Shuangwei Street first."

She took out two gold-stamped theater tickets from her sleeve and waved them in the sun. "Yuheng specifically asked me to take you to see today's show."

As she spoke, she pulled Zheng Wanqing and walked quickly through the bustling crowd.

Bai Xiao's camel-colored skirt swept across the bluestone road, making a slight rustling sound that blended with the cries of street vendors.

After turning a few deep alleys, I could hear the noise coming from the direction of the theater in the distance.

There was a crowd of people in front of the Shuangwei Street Theater. Vendors selling candied haws were walking around with straw targets filled with candied haws, and their shouts could be heard one after another.

Several men in navy blue gowns gathered in front of the playbill, pointing and talking, with melon seed shells scattered on the ground at their feet.

Bai Xiao familiarly led Zheng Wanqing around the crowded crowd and went straight up the red-painted stairs to the second floor.

Pushing open the carved wooden door of the private room, a faint scent of sandalwood wafts towards you.

"This is a great location," Bai Xiao couldn't help but admire as he walked along the railing, "It's right in front of the stage, and I can even see the flower ornaments on the eyebrows of the leading actors clearly."

Zheng Wanqing walked slowly beside her, her fingertips gently stroking the familiar patterns on the mahogany railing: "Look, brother spent a lot of money on it."

Her voice suddenly became lighter.

She was very familiar with this private room. Last time, she and Xie Yun sat here side by side to watch a show.

Zheng Wanqing's fingers unconsciously stroked the armrests of the sandalwood chair, and in a trance she saw the scene of that day again.

She sat stiffly on the edge of the chair, keeping a perfect distance from him.

When she mustered up the courage to hand him a piece of osmanthus cake, he saw a flash of surprise and joy in his eyes.

Memories came flooding back. She could even clearly remember the faint pine scent on his body, and the warmth of his tongue touching her fingertips when he leaned over and took the pastry into his mouth.

The sound of gongs and drums on the stage suddenly rang out, interrupting her thoughts.

Zheng Wanqing took a deep breath, and the unique sandalwood scent mixed with the tea fragrance in the theater permeated her heart.

She turned to Bai Xiao and smiled: "Today's show must be watched carefully."
