Chapter 12 Ripples (2/2)

Without saying a word, Xie Yun took the silk hair and gently shook it open, his movements gentle but decisive.

"Don't move." He put his arm around Zheng Wanqing's neck, lowered his head slightly, and concentrated on tying the knot for her. His breath gently brushed her earlobe, bringing a tingling sensation. The length of the silk knot just covered the bruise on her neck that had not yet subsided.

The shopkeeper handed over a bronze mirror at the right time. Zheng Wanqing in the mirror was set off by the jasmine silk embroidered with silver thread, which made her look elegant and refined. Xie Yun stood quietly behind her, gently stroking the edge of the silk with his fingertips, with undisguised admiration flowing in his eyes.

"So beautiful." Xie Yun's voice was deep and a little hoarse.

The two people's gazes met in the bronze mirror, leaving a charming scene.

Suddenly, the tenderness in the mirror was interrupted by the sound of a clapper from the street corner. Xie Yun took Zheng Wanqing's hand and scratched her palm with his fingertips: "I'll show you something more interesting."

He held Zheng Wanqing's hand and walked along the bluestone road. After turning a corner, the gilded sign of "Baochang Silver House" came into view. Under the eaves, several masters were concentrating on hammering silver sheets, and the small hammers made a crisp "ding-dong" sound when they rose and fell.

"Come in and take a look?" Xie Yun placed his hand on her waist.

Before he finished speaking, a shopkeeper in a long gown with dark patterns came out quickly, with beads of sweat on his forehead.

"Young Marshal, please come in!" The shopkeeper bowed and saluted, his tone full of flattery.

The light in the silver shop was dim, but it made the jewels look even more dazzling.

Xie Yun calmly took out a pocket watch from his arms. The intricate carvings on the watch case glowed with a warm luster under the dim light.

"Is the hinge fixed?" He handed the pocket watch to an old craftsman.

The old master grinned, revealing a gap where one of his front teeth was missing. His smile was simple and honest. He took out a red silk bag from his bosom and unfolded it carefully.

Zheng Wanqing looked at him with a little confusion.

"A relic of my father." Xie Yun stroked the scratches on the watch case, speaking softly, "The hinge broke a few days ago."

Zheng Wanqing nodded in understanding, her eyes falling on the watch chain that shone silver against the red silk.

At this time, the shopkeeper came forward with a black velvet tray, on which stood a pair of jade earrings that looked emerald green. "Young Marshal, please have a look. This is an old pit glass-type jade that was just shipped from Yunnan yesterday." He raised a magnifying glass, and the jade showed a silky texture under the lens: "Look at the water head of this gold-thread type, which is rare in the world."

Xie Yun picked up the earring, and the moment the cold jade touched Zheng Wanqing's earlobe, the warmth from his fingertips made her breath stop.

"Would you like to have the Ruyi buckle necklace as well?" The shopkeeper brought out a brocade box. "It has a lotus carved on it, perfect for a newlywed couple..."

Xie Yun laughed softly, but Zheng Wanqing was so embarrassed that she pulled his sleeve and moved to hold his arm. The jade earrings swayed gently with her movements: "That's enough. If you buy more, it will be too ostentatious."

Xie Yun's body stiffened slightly, and then he realized that this was the first time she had been so close to him. His heart was filled with surprise and sweetness, and the corners of his mouth unconsciously rose. He smiled and nodded, responding lovingly: "Okay, I'll listen to my wife."
