Chapter 17: Family Affairs (2/2)

Zheng Wanqing watched this farce coldly, laughing in her heart. The Third Aunt would never have dreamed that she and Xie Yun had not yet consummated their marriage. However, after hearing what the Third Aunt said, she had some different thoughts in her mind.

In these days of being with Xie Yun day and night, she could feel that Xie Yun did have a good impression of her, but people's hearts were fickle, and she didn't know how long this good impression could last. She slept with him every night, but Xie Yun never did anything beyond the rules, which made her feel relieved but also a little confused.

If I really do as Third Aunt said and let the Xie family arrange people to enter the Xie Mansion, then my current leisurely and comfortable days will probably be gone forever. It is always good to have control over the power.

As dusk fell, stone lanterns in the Zheng residence lit up one by one. Zheng Wanqing took her parents for a walk under the wisteria trellis, whose branches and leaves swayed gently in the evening breeze, making rustling sounds.

Suddenly, the sound of military boots stepping on bluestone was heard. Zheng Wanqing turned around and saw Xie Yun coming towards her in the moonlight. His figure was as straight as a pine tree, and a smile unconsciously appeared in his eyes.

"Yue Qi." Xie Yun saluted, his voice low and respectful.

"Go ahead," Ye Qiulan gently pushed Zheng Wanqing forward, "This child looked at the watch several times while taking a walk just now."

Xie Yun looked at Zheng Wan's thin body, took off his coat and gently put it on her shoulders. The military uniform still carried the residual warmth of his body.

"Where are you?" The thin callus on the base of his palm was clearly visible in the moonlight.

Zheng Wanqing put her hand in his palm, and the familiar temperature warmed her heart: "Okay."

Ye Qiulan's eyes were full of reluctance and expectation, and he whispered, "Wanqing is now given to you, you must treat her well."

Xie Yun and Zheng Yu nodded, their eyes firm and sincere: "Don't worry, Yue Qi."

After Zheng Wanqing said goodbye to her family, she and Xie Yun got into the car together. The car slowly drove away from Zheng's house, and the sound of the wheels rolling was particularly clear in the silent night.

Zheng Wanqing looked at the door lintel getting farther and farther away in the rearview mirror. A feeling of reluctance welled up in her heart and her eyes turned slightly red.

Xie Yun noticed that she was in a low mood. He passed his warm fingers through her fingers, held her hand tightly, and comforted her softly: "Don't be sad, we can come to see you often in the future."

The moonlight filtered through the car window, casting a faint shadow between his tired brows. Only then could Zheng Wanqing see his bloodshot eyes and the dark shadows under his eyes. She gently pressed his head against her shoulder, and her short hair rubbed against his slightly cold cheek.

"Take a nap." Her voice was so soft as if she was coaxing a child.

Xie Yun buried his nose in the jasmine scent of her neck, and his breath gradually became longer. Outside the car window, the moonlight cast their shadows on the speeding street scene, blending into a blurry warm color.
