Xie Yun's shot landed perfectly, and the bullet accurately pierced the right wrist of the Japanese gunman. Blood splattered on the half-burned documents, making a "hissing" sound.
"Ahhh——" The Japanese man fell to his knees, his left hand tightly grasping his right wrist which was bleeding profusely.
Xie Yun took a quick step forward, crushing the fallen pistol with his military boots. He pulled off the man's mask, revealing a face of a man in his forties, with hatred surging in his eyes behind the lenses.
Xie Yun lifted the other person's chin with the barrel of his gun, and the cold metal pressed against his Adam's apple. He asked in fluent Japanese: "What experiment are you doing? Why are you targeting children?"
The Japanese grinned, his bloody teeth looking particularly hideous in the firelight: "China pigs don't deserve to know."
Xie Yun's eyes suddenly turned cold. He slowly lowered the muzzle of the gun to the opponent's left knee, and pulled the trigger with a crisp movement like breaking a dead branch.
The muffled sound of bones breaking and shrill screams echoed throughout the factory.
Xie Yun leaned down and whispered in the other's ear, his tone so gentle that it was creepy: "The next shot will be your other leg." He pulled the slide slowly, and the crisp sound of the shell hitting the ground was particularly harsh in the silence. "This is the last chance."
The Japanese man curled up on the ground, his white coat soaked with cold sweat and blood. "Lung...lung bacteria..." He squeezed out a few words with a twitch, his voice was hoarse like sandpaper rubbing, "The improved strain...the infectivity...is increased by three times..."
"Did you start the epidemic in the refugee camp?"
"Oh...soon..." the Japanese grinned: "The entire southern suburbs...will become...an experimental field..." Before he could finish his words, Xie Yun's bullet had penetrated his right shoulder blade and exploded a bloody flower on the wall behind him.
"Young Marshal!" Li Sheng rushed in with a pile of documents, his leather boots splashing dark red ripples in the pool of blood, "I found the experimental log!" He handed over a piece of paper with burn marks on the edge. The Japanese table contained densely recorded data on body temperature, course of illness and mortality rate.
"Take this beast away." Xie Yun kicked the Japanese on the ground with his military boots, "Seal up all the documents and samples. The children..." His voice choked for a rare moment, "Send them to the isolation ward immediately."
When he arrived at the headquarters, the sky in the east was turning pale. Xie Yun stood in front of the window, looking at the gradually brightening sky.
On the desk were displayed the irrefutable evidence brought from the laboratory: petri dishes, syringes, experimental logs, and the identification card that the Japanese man carried with him - Lieutenant Colonel Yuichiro Inoue, Epidemic Prevention Department of the Kwantung Army.
"Young Marshal." Li Sheng knocked on the door softly, "Doctor Zheng is here."
Zheng Yuheng walked in, his white coat stained with blood and medicine. He glanced at the evidence on the table and his face turned pale: "It seems that this is the work of the Japanese army..."
"They conducted live experiments on children and then deliberately spread the germs in the camp." Xie Yun said in a hoarse voice, "The beast confessed that it was to test the actual combat effectiveness of a certain modified lung bacteria."
Zheng Yuheng slammed his fist on the table: "How many of those children are still alive?"
"Seven." Xie Yun closed his eyes. "They were sent to the isolation ward."
"I need these samples for comparative research." Zheng Yuheng pointed at the petri dish, "In addition, an isolation area must be set up. This modified bacteria may be far more contagious than ordinary lung diseases. It will be a fierce battle next."
Xie Yun nodded: "I will give the order. And..." His eyes flashed coldly, "I plan to publish this information in the newspaper."
Zheng Yuheng looked up in shock: "This will cause an international dispute..."
"That's exactly what I want." Xie Yun sneered, "Inoue Yuichi's confession plus these hard evidence from the experiments are enough to make the Japanese government lose face internationally."
