Chapter 64 Early Spring (2/2)

Zheng Wanqing felt him stop what he was doing, and just as she was about to turn around, she saw him standing up and taking out a tube of ointment. The moment the lid of the box was opened, the fresh herbal fragrance filled the air.

Xie Yun knelt on one knee in front of her, his fingertips dipped in jade-like ointment, and carefully applied it to her frostbitten knuckles.

"I originally married you to be my young mistress..." Xie Yun suddenly laughed, stroking the thin calluses on her palms with his thumbs, "How come you have a pair of carrot-like fingers?" His voice was filled with heartache: "When I was in the southern suburbs, I was always thinking about dealing with those difficult things, but neglected your consideration."

Zheng Wanqing looked at his drooping eyebrows, and her heart was filled with warmth. She shook her head gently: "Yumin, I feel bitter. I feel at ease to be able to do something practical for the people of Nanjiao with you."

Xie Yun raised his eyes, his deep gaze was like a deep stream, wrapping her tenderly. He took her hand and kissed the back of her hand: "In the future, I will never let you suffer such grievances again."

The fragrance of the ointment lingered between the two. In this position, Xie Yun gently wrapped his arms around Zheng Wanqing's slender waist, and pressed his face against her lower abdomen. His warm breath came through the thin fabric, as if he could convey all his care to her.

"I'll go to the street to buy you some ready-made clothes tomorrow. I'm afraid it's too late to find a tailor now." Zheng Wanqing lowered her eyes and looked at Xie Yun who was half-kneeling in front of her, her fingertips unconsciously curling his scattered hair.

Xie Yun raised his face, and the light and shadow floated between his deep eyebrows: "As long as there is something to wear, it's fine." He thought of Zheng Wanqing's recent plain clothes, and frowned slightly, "But Madam, the day after tomorrow is New Year's Eve, and you don't even have a new dress."

"I was just saying that. Since I got married, my closet is almost full. I don't even have time to wear some of my clothes." Zheng Wanqing's eyes moved, and she imitated his tone, "As long as I have clothes to wear, it's fine."

Xie Yun was amused by her, and fine lines appeared at the corners of his eyes: "I have to stay in the office for a little longer tomorrow, just so that I can stay up with my wife on New Year's Eve." There was an apology in his tone.

"Who wants you to accompany me?" She poked his forehead gently, "The young marshal is very busy and has missed enough official business these days." Her fingertips slid down his temples with pity.

Xie Yun grabbed her hand and put it against his cheek: "I will definitely come back to accompany you tomorrow night on New Year's Eve." After that, he grabbed her slender hand, put it in front of his eyes and looked at it carefully, gently touched her fingers, and asked with concern: "Does it still hurt?"

Zheng Wanqing was about to reply when she suddenly felt a chill on her fingertips.

He actually took her finger into his mouth and sucked it gently! The soft tip of his tongue swept across the chilblains, causing a shiver to run down her spine.

"You!" She was shocked and embarrassed, and hurriedly pulled her hand away, but he held it even tighter.

"A folk remedy from the military." Xie Yun had a smile in his eyes, and that smile was a bit cunning. He took out a silk handkerchief and wiped it for her, "It's more effective than ointment." As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly picked her up and she was so startled that she hurriedly hugged his neck.

"What are you doing!" She hit his shoulder in embarrassment, but he held her firmly in his arms.

He lowered his head and rubbed her hot cheek, then strode towards the carved bed with a marigold curtain.

"Of course it's to collect debts..." The voice gradually faded into the depths of the tent.

Outside the window, early spring magnolia is quietly blooming.
