Chapter 65 Misunderstanding (2/2)

"Since we know each other, why didn't you ever mention it to me?" Zheng Wanqing raised her eyes, the grievance in her eyes almost overflowing.

Xie Yun didn't understand what she meant, his eyes were full of confusion: "It's just a casual complaint, why do you have to mention it specifically?" He reached out to hold her hand, but was gently avoided. He frowned slightly, moved his lips, as if he wanted to say something, but paused.

"Just a casual complaint?" Zheng Wanqing's voice trembled, and the pages of the book in her hand shook slightly. "Then why did she write to you? And so...intimate..."

Xie Yun was suddenly enlightened. Seeing that her eyes were red with anxiety, he wanted to tease her. He raised the corners of his lips slightly and asked in a teasing tone: "How did Madam know? Could it be..." He deliberately dragged out the tone, "You looked through my things?"

"Xie Yun!" Zheng Wanqing rarely called him by his full name. Her eyes were red and a tear was about to fall onto her eyelashes.

Seeing that she was really getting angry, Xie Yun quickly said seriously, "We did have some contact." Before he finished speaking, he saw the tear finally rolling down. He was immediately panicked, "But it's not what you think..."

Zheng Wanqing turned her head away, refusing to look at him, leaving him with only a stubborn profile, her shoulders trembling slightly.

Xie Yun was so anxious that he pulled her hand and said, "You will understand after reading the letter." Seeing that she still ignored him, Xie Yun regretted it very much. He quickly walked to the desk to take out the letter, then turned back, half-knelt in front of her, and unfolded the letter in front of her, "Read it yourself."

The beautiful handwriting on the letterhead reads:

[Thank you, Marshal:

The Zhao bandits have recently made unusual moves, and their henchmen are trying to intercept the relief grain. As far as I know, they plan to ambush us on the Yangliuqing official road at noon three days later. I hope you can take precautions early and don't let the villains succeed. This matter is extremely urgent, and I hope the young commander can make a decision early. ”]

"This..." Zheng Wanqing was stunned, tears still hanging on her eyelashes, "Didn't she marry Zhao Qingshan? How could it be..."

Xie Yun held her face in his hands, forcing her to look into his eyes. His palms were warm and dry, with familiar calluses on them: "Before I took you to the theater, I did meet her once."

His thumb gently wiped away the tears from her eyes, his movements were incredibly gentle. "It was raining heavily that day, and she came to my office in the rain to beg me, saying that the entire troupe was under threat from Zhao Qingshan."

The light flickered in Xie Yun's eyes, reflecting his serious expression.

He simply sat down beside the bed and told the story: "Liu Tingting and Ban Yu's son were childhood sweethearts. The boy was deeply in love with her. When he heard that Zhao Qingshan was harassing her, he brought the martial artists in the troupe to the door to argue." At this point, Xie Yun sneered, "In the end, she was beaten to death by the bandit's men and is now lying on the bed."

Zheng Wanqing unconsciously clenched the handkerchief, and the Suzhou embroidery handkerchief on her head was wrinkled into a ball.

"In order to protect him, Liu Tingting had to lie and claim that he was her brother." Xie Yun's voice became low, with a rare bit of anger, "She came to me because she had nowhere else to go. I asked her to be my spy, and in exchange, I protected her troupe."

Zheng Wanqing stared at him blankly, and the grievances she had just suffered surged into her heart. She thought of how Liu Tingting looked in the silk shop today, and how much pain she was hiding under her forced smile.

"I misunderstood..." Her voice was as light as a sigh, and her fingertips carefully touched the back of Xie Yun's hand, as if testing, or apologizing.

Xie Yun wrapped her cool hands around his backhand, his eyes full of tenderness: "Silly girl." He lowered his head and kissed her palm. The warm touch made her heart tremble. "You are the only one in this world that I can put my heart at ease with."

Zheng Wanqing leaned into his arms, listening to his strong heartbeat, and suddenly felt that her jealousy was childish. Xie Yun hugged her tighter, rubbing his chin against the top of her head. The new stubble made her feel a little itchy, causing her to twist her body slightly.

The German-made clock on the wall suddenly struck twelve times. At the same time, there was a "bang" outside the window, and the first cluster of smoke bloomed brilliantly in the night sky.

Xie Yun raised his eyes to look at the hand on the gilded clock that pointed to midnight, then leaned over to her ear, his warm breath brushing against her sensitive earlobe:

"Wanqing, Happy New Year."
