Chapter 25 Poetry (2/2)

Zheng Wanqing leaned over to look, and the faint scent of jasmine from her hair lingered on Ji Chen's nose, which made his heart move slightly. She suddenly pointed to another place, with a bright light in her eyes: "Here, the word 'throw' in 'throw to the sky' should be replaced with 'give'? What I want to express is active dedication, not passive projection."

"The topic of marriage freedom is very hot recently," Ji Chen flipped the manuscript paper casually, "Do you want to add a paragraph? Just treat it as... a special project for the column."

Zheng Wanqing's eyes flickered slightly. The scene of Xie Yun and her heated discussion at the desk in the study last night appeared before her eyes. She nodded slightly, took out a fountain pen from her jacket pocket, rustled the tip of the pen on the paper, and wrote a few new lines of poetry:

"Looking for the soulmate's gaze,

It is not the marriage destined by my father.

It is a seal of mutual understanding."

When Ji Chen leaned over to read, the sapphire cufflinks on his suit cast a small spot of light on the manuscript paper. His voice was low and slightly sighing: "It's very well written."

This sentence seemed to come from far away, with a hint of imperceptible melancholy. He wanted to ask if this "soul-matching gaze" really existed, and whether she and Xie Yun were as connected as the poem said, but in the end, he just silently reached out his hand, gently stroked the corner of the manuscript paper, and buried those unspoken words deep in his heart.

Just as he was about to say something, Zhu Yinlin's crisp voice suddenly came from outside the door: "Cousin, I'm here to deliver the manuscript."

Zheng Wanqing was slightly stunned, then said: "Ji Chen, I will go back to work first."

Ji Chen nodded, his eyes following her back as she turned and left. He couldn't help but think of that day outside the coffee shop in the French Concession, when he saw Xie Yun open the car door for her and gently help her into the car. That scene was like a thin thorn, gently piercing his heart.

Three days later, the literary supplement of Ta Kung Pao was published, with the poem "New Makeup" prominently featured on the front page. The newspaper specially selected newly imported dolly paper, with a pearlescent sheen, and the editor's note at the end read: "This issue specially invites new female columnist Ms. Qingwu to write a poem. Readers are welcome to write to discuss the true meaning of marriage freedom."

Zhu Yinlin rushed into the office excitedly, holding a freshly printed newspaper and shouting, "Sister Wanqing! Your poem has caused a sensation!" She pointed excitedly at the reader's letter column, her eyes sparkling with joy, "Even students from Jinling Women's University wrote to say that they want to copy the poem on the cover page of their notebooks! There are also some readers who share their views on freedom of marriage in the letter."

Zheng Wanqing took the newspaper and looked at the enthusiastic letters from readers, her heart filled with emotion and joy.

Ji Chen stood by the window, the sun shining on him, outlining his slender figure. He quietly watched Zheng Wanqing being enthusiastically surrounded by a group of editors. When she explained her poetry creation, her eyes flashed with confidence and charm, just like when she spoke at the university literary salon. He quietly put a proof into the drawer. It was the first draft he had typeset by hand, and there were still comments on the edge during their discussion...
