Chapter 55: Poison Epidemic (1/2)

As dusk fell, Li Sheng hurried into the headquarters. He didn't even have time to salute, and lowered his voice to report: "Young Marshal, there is a clue! Xiao Douzi said that a doctor in a white coat took him to the abandoned machinery factory in the west of the city to get a vaccine."

The pen in Xie Yun's hand snapped, and the ink left a shocking dark mark on the document. He slowly stood up, and the sandalwood chair scraped against the ground, making a harsh sound: "What's the exact location?"

"There is an iron gate covered by vines on the back wall of the machinery factory." Li Sheng took out a crumpled straw paper from his arms, on which the route was crookedly outlined, "We caught a traitor who was on guard. He confessed that the Japanese started transporting children there three days ago..."

Xie Yun grabbed his gun, and the leather holster made a tight friction sound: "Assemble the guard company immediately, and all members must wear epidemic prevention equipment." He fastened his belt and a cold light flashed in his eyes, "I want to see what the Japanese do on my territory."

The abandoned machinery factory loomed in the night, with dead creepers crawling on the mottled brick walls. Xie Yun made a gesture, and ten soldiers silently dispersed and surrounded the factory. Li Sheng led three elite soldiers and quietly moved to the side door.

"Young Marshal, the situation inside is not serious. Why don't you let me go first..." Li Sheng's request was abruptly interrupted by Xie Yunshen's sharp eyes.

"Together." Xie Yun adjusted his mask and stepped into the darkness first. The stench of decay mixed with the pungent smell of carbolic acid hit him in the face, and he subconsciously clenched his pistol.

The interior of the factory has been renovated, with the original mechanical equipment pushed to the corner and several cold iron beds neatly arranged in the center.

In the pale moonlight, Xie Yun saw a small figure curled up on each bed. On the wooden boxes piled in the corner, the eye-catching Japanese logo was faintly visible in the darkness.

"Search the area." Xie Yun ordered in a low voice, "Watch out for traps."

Li Sheng just took a step when a black shadow suddenly jumped out from the shadows, with a cold light going straight for the throat. Xie Yun slightly turned his body, raised his hand and fired a shot, the bullet accurately pierced the attacker's eyebrows.

The sound of gunfire broke the silence, and panicked shouting in Japanese came from the lower floor.

"Go upstairs!" Xie Yun shouted, "Leave two people to guard the exit!"

The corridors on both sides of the second floor were converted into cells, with numbered plates hung on the iron bars. Xie Yun kicked open the door of the first cell, and saw three children chained to the wall like rag dolls, with pinholes all over their thin arms.

Blood-stained bandages and several glass petri dishes were scattered in the corner. The youngest girl was already dead, with fear frozen in her wide-open eyes and black bloodstains at the corners of her mouth.

"Beast!" Li Sheng punched the mottled wall, blood oozing from his knuckles.

There was a faint sobbing sound coming from next door. Xie Yun walked over quickly and found a boy about ten years old tied to the operating table, with an IV tube inserted into his arm and a transparent liquid slowly injected into his blood vessels. When the boy saw them, he struggled in fear.

"Don't be afraid, we are here to save you." Xie Yun pulled out the needle and cut the rope with a flash of cold light. The boy's skin was horribly burned and his breathing was rapid, the symptoms were exactly the same as those of the patients in the refugee camp.

Xie Yun and Li Sheng exchanged a sharp look, and the two of them tacitly lowered their bodies and sneaked to the end of the corridor.

Through the half-open iron door, one could see a figure in a white coat frantically throwing documents into the brazier; the flickering flames illuminated the cold sweat oozing from his forehead.

"Don't move!" Xie Yun shouted in Japanese.

The man turned around abruptly, and his pupils behind his glasses suddenly contracted. He continued to throw documents into the brazier with his left hand, but with his right hand he quickly pulled out a pocket pistol from the inner pocket of his white coat.

The moment the muzzle flashed, Xie Yun dodged to the side. The bullet whizzed past his ear and splashed a string of dazzling sparks on the iron gate behind him.

"Bang!"
