Chapter 59 Strong Liquor Enters the Throat (2/2)

Zhou Lin swallowed subconsciously, his heart beat violently involuntarily, and he felt nervous.

"Yumin." Zheng Wanqing tugged at his sleeve and called him affectionately, her eyes full of pleading.

Xie Yun raised the corners of his lips slightly, revealing a doting smile: "Forget it, do whatever you want, the suffering that follows will be enough for you to endure."

Zhou Lin finally let out a sigh of relief, scratched the back of his head, and said, "Young Marshal, Madam's luggage..."

"Just give it to me," Xie Yun reached out to take the suitcase, "and ask the kitchen staff to make you a bowl of noodles."

Zhou Lin's eyes lit up, revealing an expectant look: "I'd like some wine to keep the cold away."

"You are so beautiful." Xie Yun cursed with a smile, but turned to the guard and said, "Bring me my bottle of Hengshui Laobaigan."

In the tent next to the command center, the flames in the charcoal basin danced happily, making crackling sounds.

Zhou Lin was holding a coarse porcelain bowl and wolfing down noodles. The steam from the hot noodle soup covered his face, but he was completely unaware.

The wooden door was pushed open with a creaky sound, blowing in a few flakes of snow and bringing a hint of chill.

"Adjutant Zhou, you are so brave." Li Sheng patted the snow on his shoulders, strode forward and sat down on the bench next to Zhou Lin. He gave him a thumbs up with a teasing look in his eyes.

Zhou Lin was eating with great enthusiasm, his chopsticks suspended in mid-air, the soup dripping slowly from the tip of the chopsticks into the bowl, spreading circles of oil. He glanced at Li Sheng helplessly: "Captain Li, please stop teasing me."

He glanced at Li Sheng's haggard face and messy stubble, and couldn't help but think of the dark circles under Xie Yun's eyes: "How many days have you not closed your eyes?"

Li Sheng didn't rush to answer. He added a piece of pine wood into the charcoal basin, and the added firewood burst into sparks with a "pop".

"I did take a nap last night," Li Sheng replied, rubbing his frozen hands. After a pause, he continued, "But the last time I saw Young Marshal take a rest was the day before yesterday."

Zhou Lin's eyes showed worry: "The situation is still very serious?"

"If it weren't so serious, would I come to ask for this drink of wine from you?" Li Sheng said, his eyes fixed on the wine jug in front of Zhou Lin.

Zhou Lin smiled and said, "Well, I thought you came here specially to see me, but I didn't expect you came just for this drink."

After saying that, he picked up the wine jug and filled two coarse porcelain cups. The amber wine gleamed in the firelight, and he pushed one of the cups towards Li Sheng.

"Thank you for your hard work during this period, Captain Li. I'd like to offer you a toast."

Li Sheng grinned, revealing a row of white teeth. He reached out to take the wine glass, tilted his head back and drank it. The spicy wine just entered his throat and he frowned: "Wow! It's worthy of being the young marshal's wine, strong enough!" He smacked his lips, his Adam's apple rolling up and down, and he swallowed the whole glass of liquor.

When he put down the wine glass, Li Sheng's eyes were red. He patted Zhou Lin's shoulder with such force that the noodle soup in the bowl shook: "Adjutant Zhou, you must eat and drink enough tonight and rest well." He stood up, and the snow on his military boots fell off. "Starting tomorrow, I'm afraid it will be difficult to close your eyes."

He waved, turned and walked out the door.
