Xi Chun turned to look at Wei Qiao, "I want to write a letter."

He glanced at her, "Write a letter, to whom? Miao Wendao?"

Wei Qiao unconsciously tightened his grip on her shoulder.

Meeting the rising anger in his eyes, Xichun still nodded, "Wei Qiao, Brother Miao and Aunt Feng are both good people. I should at least give them an explanation."

Wei Qiao's gaze swept over Xi Chun from head to toe, finally settling on the mandarin duck shoes beneath her bright red wedding dress. His Adam's apple bobbed as he looked into Xi Chun's pleading eyes and nodded slightly. "Alright, I can let you write the letter and send someone to deliver it to him, as long as you agree to one request."

"What do you want? Just tell me and I'll do it." Xi Chun felt immense guilt towards Miao Wendao and Aunt Feng, and she was willing to give anything to do anything to make amends.

Wei Qiao reached out and touched her face, saying in a deep voice, "I want you to consummate our marriage tonight."

Xi Chun paused upon hearing this, a hint of fear darkening her bright eyes. Wei Qiao pressed his finger against her slightly parted red lips, which were trembling with surprise, and smiled, "What, you don't want to? I won't force you then." With that, he turned to leave.

She suppressed her urge to cry and reached out to grab Wei Qiao's sleeve. Wei Qiao had been prepared for this all along, and when he heard her softly say "I do," a triumphant smile appeared on his lips.

Xi Chun finished writing a letter to Miao Wendao and Aunt Feng on her desk, without mentioning Wei Qiao in her heart, fearing that Brother Miao might do something rash and clash with Wei Qiao. Brother Miao was a county magistrate; he certainly couldn't defeat Wei Qiao. She only said that she had changed her mind and didn't want to marry him, which was why she left in the dead of night. In the letter, she apologized to Brother Miao and Aunt Feng, saying that she had let them down and that she should not look for him and should forget about her from now on.

Xi Chun put down her pen and waited for the ink to dry before carefully sealing the letter. Wei Qiao watched her write with flowing grace, filled with astonishment and admiration. Although her handwriting wasn't exactly beautiful, it was a huge improvement compared to a few months ago when she couldn't even write her own name.

Xi Chun packed the letter, sealed it with glue, and handed it to Wei Qiao, who was standing nearby.

Wei Qiao took the letter from her hand and looked at the words "To Brother Miao" on the envelope. He was still a little unhappy. He pouted and said, "You can write such good handwriting in just a few months. It seems that Miao Wendao is a teacher who suits your taste."

Xichun didn't want to argue with him; she just wanted to get the letter to Brother Miao as soon as possible.

"Wei Qiao, you must keep your word."

"nature."

Wei Qiao called over A Gui, who was standing at the door, and handed him the letter. "Tomorrow morning, send someone to deliver this letter to Miao Wendao. He should be awake by then."

Ah Gui carefully put away the letter and tactfully left the room quickly.

Wei Qiao turned to look at Xi Chun, who was still standing by the desk, tilted his head and smiled at her, "I did what I promised you, and it's time for you to fulfill your promise to me."

Xi Chun knew what he was talking about. She was both ashamed and afraid, and lowered her head to stare at the golden lotus flower embroidered on the hem of her wedding dress.

After a long pause, he stammered, "I won't break my promise."

The inn's top-tier room had a bathroom. After having the water filled, Wei Qiao told Xi Chun to take a bath. Xi Chun looked at the prepared nightgown and made sure the bathroom door was closed before slowly undressing herself. She soaked in the tub for a long time, until the water had completely cooled down, before getting up and putting on the pomegranate-red nightgown.

Wei Qiao laid out chess manuals on the daybed. A fire burned within him, yet he remained silent, refusing to urge Xi Chun on. She was an honest person; once she made a promise, she wouldn't go back on it.

After tonight, she will be completely his.

With a creak, Wei Qiao looked in the direction of the sound and saw Xi Chun emerge from the bathroom, her hair slightly damp and her skin a delicate pink. She was dressed in red, more radiant and dazzling than the spring sunshine of March.

Xichun walked over to him and caught a glimpse of her playing chess. Without looking at his face, she simply said, "I'm done washing up."

Smelling her sweet fragrance, Wei Qiao felt a surge of heat coursing through him. He licked his lips and said to her, "Go to bed and wait for me."

Xi Chun left as instructed, but her scent seemed to tighten around him like a net. Touching his racing heart, he waited a long while before calling for someone to change the water. After bathing, Wei Qiao dressed in his nightgown and walked towards the carved canopy bed. She sat obediently on the edge of the bed, her long, dark hair cascading down her back.

When Xichun heard the bathroom door open, she became so nervous that her breathing became rapid. When she felt Wei Qiao sit down next to her, she was so embarrassed that she wanted to hide in the floor.

She was so nervous that she was trembling, as was Wei Qiao. He got up and extinguished the candles in the front room, leaving only two red candles in the bedroom.

Lowering the autumn-colored bed curtains, Wei Qiao gently placed Xi Chun on the bed, gazing at her face as beautiful as peach blossoms, and planted a deep kiss on her forehead. His kisses traveled down her body, landing densely on her slender neck. His large hand intertwined with her small hand, and Xi Chun nervously gripped his hand tightly, her nails digging deep dents into the back of his hand.

Wei Qiao was inexperienced in this matter either. He tried hard to recall the erotic picture books he had seen while Xi Chun was bathing. To please her, he needed to make her relax. Wei Qiao gently peeled off Xi Chun's nightgown and then took off his own clothes. The two were naked together for the first time. Xi Chun kept her eyes tightly closed and dared not look at him.

He suppressed his surging desires and patiently waited for her to realize the pleasure she was experiencing. When their passion was at its peak, Wei Qiao kissed her lips, savoring every sweet whisper she uttered.

"Xichun, open your eyes and look at me."

Having completely won her over, Wei Qiao passionately lured Xi Chun to look at him. He felt utterly blissful, and he believed she felt the same way. Unable to resist his persistent advances, she opened her hazy eyes and looked at Wei Qiao. In the dim candlelight, his peach blossom eyes were filled with tears, and his handsome, thin lips were a rosy red. Wei Qiao was already handsome, but at this moment he was even more captivating.

Xi Chun recalled the day they first met when he was dozing in the pavilion, looking like a fairy under the moonlight. Now, compared to then, he seemed more worldly. Xi Chun raised her head and placed a light, fleeting kiss on his lips. Receiving her response, Wei Qiao leaned down and deepened the kiss, passionately entwining with Xi Chun until the fourth watch of the night.

Looking at the tired Xichun sleeping in his arms, Wei Qiao carefully tucked her stray hairs behind her ears and gently tucked her in before falling asleep contentedly.

The next morning, Xi Chun groggily opened her eyes, feeling extremely sore all over. Sensing the warmth beside her, she turned her head and found Wei Qiao sleeping next to her. Looking down at the many marks on her body, the events of the previous night flooded her mind. Noticing the nightgown tossed at the foot of the bed, she carefully got up from Wei Qiao's arms to reach for it.

Wei Qiao had woken up early, but seeing that she was still asleep, he pretended to be asleep as well. Now, seeing her bare back as she reached for her clothes, a certain part of his body began to crave her again; her taste was too alluring. If she hadn't begged him for mercy with tearful eyes last night, and if he hadn't pitied her for being too tired, he would have definitely clung to her again and taken her one more time.

Xi Chun quickly dressed and was about to get out of bed when she turned her head and found Wei Qiao looking at her with his eyes open. His eyes were clear, and he did not look like he had just woken up.

"You...you're awake?"

Seeing her gathering her clothes and looking wary, he frowned slightly and said, "Hmm."

Xi Chun felt sticky and wanted to get out of bed and have someone fetch water for her to take a bath. Wei Qiao grabbed her wrist. "Where are you going?"

"bath."

He glanced at the red marks on her neck and coughed awkwardly twice. "Wait here." He then got up, dressed, and called someone in to prepare hot water and clothes.

After everyone left, Wei Qiao lifted the bed curtains, picked the person up, and carried them to the bathroom. Just as Wei Qiao was about to leave, Xi Chun called out to him.

"What's up?"

"I believe you promised."

Wei Qiao turned to look into her bright eyes and said coldly, "I have already sent the letter. Along with it was a five-hundred-tael silver note, which will be considered as your food and lodging expenses while you are staying with him."

Xi Chun thought of all the things Brother Miao had prepared for their wedding, and she nodded, "Thank you."

Wei Qiao didn't say anything more and walked out of the bathroom.

After washing up, the two sat together and ate breakfast. Xi Chun was hungry and ate a bowl of red date porridge, half a basket of steamed buns, and a fried dough stick. Wei Qiao noticed that her mouth was greasy after eating the fried dough stick, so he took a towel from the washstand and gently wiped her mouth clean.

For a moment, Xi Chun was lost in thought, as if she had returned to the days when she had just left the palace and was at the Wei residence. They were deeply in love, their eyes filled only with each other. But as things unfolded afterward, she knew that everything was irreversible. Even though they had been so intimate yesterday, there was no future for her and Wei Qiao; Wei Qiao's wife would always be the eldest daughter of the Ming family. He had snatched her away from Brother Miao simply because of his possessiveness.

After the meal, Wei Qiao planned to take Xi Chun to explore Xi Jin City. This small city is famous for its jade, and there are many shops selling all kinds of jade jewelry and ornaments. Although they are not as exquisite as those in the capital or the Jiangnan region, they have a natural and simple charm.

"I don't want to go," Xichun said, declining his invitation.

"Why?" Wei Qiao asked her.

She lowered her head, somewhat embarrassed to speak. When she saw Wei Qiao staring at her intently, she finally said, "I... my leg hurts." She had noticed a red and swollen patch on her leg when she took a shower that morning, and it was still painful from walking.

It took Wei Qiao a while to understand what she meant. He had been very gentle at the beginning of last night, but later he couldn't control himself and that's probably when he hurt her. He got up, picked her up, and walked towards the bunk bed.

Seeing him walk towards the bed, Xi Chun assumed he would do the same thing during the day, so she quickly tugged at his collar, "Wei Qiao, it's daytime now, put me down."

He glared at her reproachfully, "What are you thinking about? Let me see if you're hurt."

After a thorough examination, it turned out just as he had suspected. He resented his own rudeness, gently straightened her clothes, and then carried her to the daybed.

He whispered a few words to A-Gui before leaving, and soon A-Gui came in carrying several books. Wei Qiao took the books and placed them on the low table on the daybed, saying to her, "Read these to relieve your boredom. I'm going out for a bit."

Xi Chun's ears were still burning hot. She nodded to him and only picked out a storybook from the books A Gui had brought her after he left.
