Chapter 7 He's a pig-brain
Yan Jinyue stormed out in anger.
She didn't want to see this infuriating scene again, and she didn't want to see her usually calm and wise elder brother turn into a fool with no judgment in front of Chu Yun Jin every time.
However, she is indeed staying for lunch today.
Not only did she have to have lunch at the Prince of Yan's residence, but she also had to keep a close eye on this woman at all times to prevent her from causing any more trouble, especially from sowing discord between her and Pei Yi'an.
It would be best if Pei Yi'an really did bring back a pregnant woman, just as she said.
Otherwise, she would definitely tear Chu Yunjin to pieces!
The room became even quieter as Yan Jinyue left.
Chu Yunjin looked up at Yan Cang, her gaze somewhat timid: "Are you going to get busy?"
Yan Cang wasn't sure if she wanted him to be busy or not, since she used to hope that he would rather die than appear in front of her.
"I want to talk to you." Chu Yunjin's voice was soft and sweet, with a hint of coquetry and weakness. "If Your Highness has important matters to attend to, I will talk to you at lunchtime."
"It's alright." Yan Cang's tone was calm and indifferent. "Everything in the military camp has been arranged. With Feng Zhan and Ye Changqing there, we can train normally."
Chu Yunjin took Yan Cang's hand and walked to the couch next to him to sit down. Then she naturally snuggled into his arms, raised her hand to hug his neck, and said with a guilty and self-reproachful voice, "I'm sorry, it was all my fault before. I was stupid, impulsive and irritable. I didn't know the value of a gem and mistook a pearl for a fish eye... Please forgive me, Your Highness?"
Yan Cang held her waist tightly, afraid that she might fall down: "I have never blamed you."
Chu Yunjin composed herself, her dark eyes, washed clean by tears, clear and bright. Her voice was soft and captivating: "What I said in front of the palace banquet yesterday was out of necessity, but I promise it won't happen again. I will make it up to the Noble Consort... Mother Consort won't blame me, will she?"
She suddenly felt a chill: "Isn't falsely accusing my mother also considered deceiving the emperor?"
Of course it counts.
Yan Cang stared at her timid expression, some images flashing through his mind, and his heart suddenly clenched.
He had never seen Chu Yunjin so vulnerable.
So even though there was a lot of resentment and pain in my heart, all that was left now was heartache.
Jin Yue is right, he's a complete idiot.
He had learned his lesson more than once, but he never seemed to remember it... These were all things he owed her.
Chu Yunjin raised her hand and stroked Yan Cang's tired brows and eyes: "Are you too tired?"
Yan Cang remained silent.
He wasn't physically exhausted, but emotionally drained by the marriage.
He tried countless ways to change everything, attempting to get her to accept him, to influence her, and to make her understand her own heart—but all to no avail.
They have been married for two years, but they rarely see each other.
He spent most of his time at the border, and in the past two years, he had only returned home for less than two months at a time.
Even though it's only been two months, they've spent every day in chaotic arguments. She's either hysterically threatening suicide or demanding a divorce, or she doesn't mind going out to meet other men and making him lose face.
Yan Cang knew she couldn't possibly be having an affair; she wasn't that kind of person. The more fiercely she shouted, the more she was bluffing.
He thought he could tolerate her tantrums forever, only hoping that after the border war ended and they stayed in the capital for a long time, she would gradually soften if they had a child.
But at yesterday's palace banquet, she publicly accused his mother, which made his heart sink to the bottom.
He had to accept a fact.
She truly hated him, to the point that she would stop at nothing to get a divorce.
Since that's the case, let's just grant her wish.
He didn't expect her to suddenly change her mind.
Yan Cang lowered his gaze to her tear-stained face. She looked a little disheveled after crying, but it did not diminish her stunning beauty in the slightest. Jin Yue said that he was blinded by her beauty, and Yan Cang knew that many royal relatives and nobles in the capital had said the same thing.
They all thought he was attracted to Chu Yunjin's beauty, and even said that beauty leads people astray.
Yan Cang never bothered to explain.
But at this moment, he couldn't help but want to tell Chu Yunjin that what he loved was never her beauty.
Before he could speak, Chu Yunjin grasped his hand and said, "You didn't sleep a wink last night, did you? I didn't sleep well either. How about we catch up on some sleep together?"
Yan Cang was somewhat surprised that she still had the mind to sleep.
"Let's go." Chu Yunjin took his hand and led him to the bedside. "Even an hour of sleep would be good."
Yan Cang didn't say anything, letting him pull him into the inner room, where he undressed and lay down on the bed.
Chu Yunjin stripped down to her undergarments, her slender and exquisite body shifting closer to him, curling lazily in his arms like a spoiled little fox.
Yan Cang looked down at the woman in his arms, his lips slightly pursed, suddenly unsure how to face what was happening before him.
Whether he had grown accustomed to her resentment and nagging, or simply couldn't believe her sudden change, he felt as if he were dreaming.
If it really was a dream...
Yan Cang gently closed his eyes and said silently.
If it really is a dream, then let him never wake up.
