Chapter 85 On the Eve of the Drought 2

“This is for the best. Let the villagers handle it themselves. They will eventually get out of here,” Feng Biluo said as she looked at Feng Linshu. Feng Linshu nodded in agreement.

“Hey, the village said there would be a drought. We didn’t take it seriously at first, but there’s been almost no rain in the second half of the year, and we realized there’s a real problem. Hopefully, things will be better next year,” Feng Linshu said. However, Feng Biluo’s gaze turned complicated when she looked at Feng Linshu.

Because Feng Biluo knew very well that some things could not go as planned, because next year there would indeed still be a drought, and it would be a drought for three years, and then the educated youth going to the countryside program would be implemented after three years.

Later, in 1959, the first batch of educated youth sent to the countryside would be sent here. That was the beginning of Feng Linshu's time as an educated youth sent to the countryside. At that time, Feng Linshu was unaware of this, and not only Feng Linshu was unaware of it.

It should be said that everyone in Fengjia Village and those who went to Qishan'ao thought that there would be rain next year, but they didn't know that even next year there would still be no rain.

Because the commune intervened, the villagers stopped fighting with other villages over water resources. Of course, even without fighting with hoes, everyone still had their own issues to deal with.

That was to complain to the commune that they shouldn't be denied water. At this moment, everyone's face showed some anxiety. "The village chief's limited water supply will cause our production to plummet."

"Do you think I don't know? But what if you make a scene?" she said upon hearing this. There was no way to change anything, and everyone was somewhat worried at this moment.

As Feng Biluo looked at the well, she said to the village chief, "Village chief, how about we draw water from the well?" Upon hearing this, the village chief was slightly taken aback and looked at Feng Biluo with some surprise.

"By the way, village chief, this is good. Let's get some well water." After hesitating for a moment, the village chief nodded. In the end, everyone went to fetch well water, but there wasn't much. It was only enough to irrigate the cracked ground.

Under such circumstances, the rice in the field barely survived. However, the village was not so lucky. When the late rice was ready to be harvested, everyone in the village breathed a sigh of relief and then started working enthusiastically.

The late-season rice harvest was less, but still more than in previous years, so it wasn't a complete failure. Compared to previous years, it was a bumper harvest, but considering the previous harvest of early rice, it couldn't really be considered a bumper harvest at this time.

After the rice was harvested, every household kept the grain. Everyone in the village looked at the sky. Even though they no longer needed to watch the rice, many people were still worried about the lack of rain.

When Feng Fuya followed Feng Biluo and saw the field crack, she said to Feng Biluo, "Mom... the field has cracked." Upon hearing this, Feng Biluo nodded.

Feng Biluo spoke directly, "Yes, even though it's cracked, you're still on the shore." Feng Biluo then started digging for loaches and eels, as did many other people in the village.

There were many eels and loaches at this time. Although it was dry, they were still alive, so Feng Biluo came to dig for eels. After catching the eels, Feng Biluo went straight back.

After returning home, Feng Biluo soaked the eel in water, intending to let it and the loach expel the mud before frying it. Feng Fuya squatted next to the eel and poked it with water, but suddenly shouted, "Mom..."

Hearing this from inside the room, Feng Biluo was startled and ran out. She saw Feng Fuya's finger being bitten by an eel, and she was crying very hard. Feng Biluo quickly pinched the eel's mouth and pried it open.

Feng Fuya's little hands were terribly red and swollen. Looking at the other person's little hands, Feng Biluo said to Feng Fuya, "Why are you so naughty?" Upon hearing this, Feng Fuya burst into tears.

"I...I didn't mean to." She looked at Feng Biluo and said, "Mom, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have caused you trouble. I was just looking at it..." She only came to tease the eel because she was curious.

Seeing the other person crying with snot and tears streaming down their face, Feng Biluo felt a mix of emotions. A smile appeared on her face as she reached out and ruffled the other person's hair. "It'll be alright, you'll be fine soon."

Feng Biluo applied medicine to Feng Fuya, and Feng Fuya stopped crying while the medicine was being applied. "Mom, have I caused you any trouble?" After verifying the situation, Feng Fuya was still worried that she had caused trouble for Feng Biluo and felt that she was not a good child.

Seeing Feng Fuya's worry and guilt, Feng Biluo felt a mix of emotions. She reached out and wrapped her hand around Feng Fuya's, then hugged her to comfort her. Feng Fuya looked at Feng Biluo with tears in her eyes.

“You didn’t cause any trouble, so how could Xiao Fuya cause trouble for her mother? It’s my fault. I didn’t tell you, so Xiao Fuya got bitten. It’s my fault too.” Feng Biluo looked at Feng Fuya and said. When Feng Fuya heard this, she looked at Feng Biluo and sobbed.

"Are you telling the truth?" Feng Fuya asked, looking at Feng Biluo. "Hasn't little Fuya caused you any trouble?" she asked, and when Feng Biluo nodded, a smile appeared in Feng Fuya's eyes.

"Come here, Mom will blow on you." Feng Biluo said to Feng Fuya and started blowing on her. When Feng Fuya heard this, she looked at Feng Biluo and smiled sweetly.
