"Fire!"
I yelled and jumped off the bed.
"Boss! What...what do we do now?!"
Basaka jumped off the bed just like me, but... even though he's a capable adult, he seemed more flustered than me.
The surrounding temperature was getting increasingly extreme, and the noise was becoming clearer. It seemed that the orcs were busy fighting the fire, so they couldn't pay any attention to us.
"What should we do?"
To be honest, I've had similar thoughts about setting fire to the forest. Should I ignore it and run away alone, or should I help the orcs and make amends?
In a sense, I'm more inclined to the first idea: escape in the chaos.
After all, I don't know if I'll get the reward I deserve after helping them put out the fire. What if I'm still locked up in jail... ah... I'd really go crazy.
"Newbie? Want to escape with me?"
"Huh! Boss! What are you talking about? We don't have the key."
ah. "
"It's just a key! No problem!"
At this point, I pressed myself against the cell door and pulled out the key I had left behind during my last escape. It was a replica made with earth magic, but of course, as long as it could open the cell door, it was no different from the original.
"Whoa! Boss! When did you steal the key?"
"How dare you talk like that! I'm a magician! I would never do such a bad thing as stealing. I just planned to run away from the beginning, and this was just preparation in advance."
"Oh! I see! Boss is brilliant!"
I wasn't going to waste any more words with Basaka. The entire cell was filled with an unprecedented heat; if I didn't escape soon, I'd probably be steamed alive.
Insert the key into the lock, then easily turn it, and the door opens smoothly, with the chain attached to the lock falling to the ground.
"Alright, newbie! Let's get going!"
"Yes, boss!"
As soon as the door was opened, it was clear that the fire had begun to spread over this area. The raging flames danced aggressively, and a kind of hot wind swept across the entire rainforest, emitting a howling sound that seemed determined to completely engulf the rainforest.
Even the wooden houses in the trees, and the platforms suspended by the iron vines, were not spared. Under the intense heat, they all broke and drooped helplessly beside the trees, struggling to survive.
"This...this is too tragic."
Hearing Basaka's whisper, I nodded in agreement, and at the same time felt sorry for these guys. After all, they were orcs like Lilith, and yet someone had actually set a huge fire on them.
However... thanks to the person who did this, I was able to escape.
"Newbie! Do you know the way to 'Nyalosa'?"
I regretted saying that as soon as it left my mouth. You see, this guy was caught and locked up because he got lost in the rainforest. Asking him for directions to "Nyolorus" was such a stupid idea.
"What did you say, boss?!"
What are you doing there?
By the time I came to my senses, Basaka had already climbed down the wooden ladder and run to the side, patting the huge "beast" with his clothes.
"Boss! Aren't you coming to help put out the fire?"
"...Should we put out the fire?"
What a joke... I was planning to use this fire to escape from prison. If the fire goes out, I'll be discovered immediately and might even be mistaken for arsonist. These muscle-bound idiots can't explain themselves at all.
"Boss! Don't you know water magic? Help me! Waaaaah..."
"..."
Is this guy's head filled with foam? He didn't seem to have considered the scale of the fire at all, and actually tried to put it out by beating it with his clothes. As a result, his clothes instantly turned into flammable material and were swallowed up by the raging flames.
What are you doing?!
Seeing Basaka's disheveled appearance, coupled with his monkey-like face, nothing could possibly match this guy. Considering the urgency of the situation, I forced myself to suppress a feeling that was almost like bursting into laughter and used water magic to extinguish the flames on his clothes.
"Hehe... Thanks, boss!"
"Stop talking nonsense... Hurry up and find a breakthrough, or we'll all be swallowed up by this fire!"
"Yes, boss!"
I ran with Basaka towards a place where the fire was less intense, but the speed at which the fire spread was beyond my imagination. Just a moment ago, the trees in front of me were lush and green, but in the blink of an eye, they had become food for a huge red beast.
"Damn it! This fire is huge!"
Yes, my worst fears have come true. The fire has gradually formed an encirclement, leaving no way to escape.
"Hey! Boss! Look!"
At that moment, Basaka suddenly stopped and pointed in a certain direction.
Looking in the direction he pointed, we saw a young child with cat ears. He had probably inhaled the black smoke by accident. The child was coughing and wiping his eyes as he staggered toward us.
At this moment, the wooden bridge above was gradually being eroded by the flames, becoming shaky and about to collapse. Finally, the iron vines could no longer support it, and the entire bridge crashed down on the child.
It seems that keen senses are an innate trait of the orc race. Even the orc child was able to sense the danger in time and look up, but he was so frightened by the suddenness of the event that he froze on the spot.
"Danger!"
I reflexively shouted, and at the same time used wind magic to blast the entire wooden bridge away.
It seemed that because of my intervention, the orc child struggled to get up from the ground, but he must have injured his knee, so he fell to the ground again.
"Hey! Newbie!"
Before I could even speak, Basaka had already run towards the orc child and disappeared into the dust.
"Damn it!"
The fire had already spread this way, and the thick smoke was obscuring most of the view. With no other choice, I had to activate my magic eye and search for the direction of Basaka in the smoke and dust.
"Newbie! Watch out!"
Using my magic eye, I was able to easily find the two people. Basaka was holding the orc child, and it seemed that dust had gotten into his eyes. He was blinking incessantly and seemed disoriented. The platform above his head, which was being suspended by iron vines, also fell to the ground after the bridge broke.
Boom!
Fortunately, upon hearing my shout, Basaka turned around in time and escaped unharmed.
"Boss! Where are you?!"
"Over here!"
After I ran to their side, I used my magic eye to check for any hidden dangers above. Once I confirmed it was safe, I reached out and took the orc child from Basaka's arms.
"Boss! I almost thought..."
"Stop talking nonsense! Let me check the child's injuries first!"
"Yes, boss!"
After embracing the orc child, I could see that his exposed skin was badly burned, his eyes were red from rubbing, and his breathing was weak. After all, there was no fresh air in the fire, so each breath was accompanied by a violent cough.
"We need to get her treated immediately!"
First, I used water magic to cleanse his eyes, then I used the "Azure Crown" to heal his burned skin.
"Newcomer! Give me the clothes!"
"yes!"
I would tear the clothes into strips, wet them slightly with water, and then place them over the child's mouth and nose. After doing this, I would repeat the same steps to check on Basaka. Only after confirming that he was not injured could I breathe a sigh of relief.
