Testing the waters and new tasks [1 update]

Testing the waters and new tasks [1 update]

Beika Town Central Hospital.

With a "bang," the ambulance door opened, and paramedics pushed the trolley towards the emergency room. After a preliminary examination by the emergency room doctor, the ambulance was then taken to have an X-ray.

After hitting someone, Akemi Miyano panicked and rushed around to get a check-up. After paying the fees, she went to the supermarket next to the hospital and bought a lot of things.

Pushing open the hospital room door, Akemi Miyano, carrying her belongings, apologized sincerely to the person in the bed, offering substantial compensation: "I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention while driving. I'll cover the hospitalization costs. In short, I'm very sorry—"

The handsome young man with a broken leg and minor abrasions looked very calm and composed. He politely accepted the gifts and Miyano Akemi's apology. After a pause, he said, "...I was also at fault. I was running too fast and didn't notice the car."

Seeing that the other party accepted the apology, Miyano Akemi breathed a sigh of relief, and her panicked emotions calmed down considerably after hearing his words. Her eyes brightened slightly, and her liking for this person increased significantly. The two then chatted for a few more minutes and exchanged contact information.

After agreeing to visit him again the next day, Akemi Miyano hurriedly left the hospital.

The long-haired youth is named Shuichi Akai, whose real identity is an FBI investigator. He came to Japan under the alias Dai Moroboshi to infiltrate the Black Organization and investigate the truth behind his father's murder.

In order to join the organization, Shuichi Akai decides to use Akemi Miyano's identity to force himself to join.

He had investigated Miyano Akemi before the operation and knew that she was a low-ranking member of the Black Organization and had a younger sister who held a high position in the organization and had a code name.

Such an ordinary-looking young woman—if he didn't know her identity, Shuichi Akai would never have connected her to the Black Organization. He only discovered Miyano Akemi because she seemed to be under the Black Organization's surveillance; although he didn't know why, Akai felt this was his opportunity.

His plan was to bring in Akemi Miyano, use the members of the organization who were monitoring her, and thus bring her into the organization.

Although faking an accident is a risky tactic, and he could easily be identified as a variable by the monitored organization members and thus eliminated, Shuichi Akai still wants to give it a try, since it is currently the most convenient channel for him.

So even after Akemi Miyano left, Shuichi Akai did not let his guard down. He waited for the reaction of the organization members who were secretly monitoring Akemi Miyano, whether to eliminate her directly or leave her to be observed.

...

Hikaru Midorikawa did not follow her into the hospital. He waited until Akemi Miyano came out of the hospital, then escorted her all the way back to the safe house arranged by the organization before sending a message to Gin to report what had happened that day.

However, Midorikawa Hikaru did not tell Gin his speculation about the long-haired man, only briefly explaining the car accident that happened on the road and the man who was hit.

Therefore, Gin didn't pay much attention to this minor incident and left Midorikawa Hikaru to handle the aftermath. Upon receiving the reply, Midorikawa Hikaru's lips curled into a slight smile, and he cast a meaningful glance at the inpatient ward of Beika Town Central Hospital.

The next day, Shuichi Akai was posing in the ward while waiting for Akemi Miyano to arrive. He was wearing a blue and white striped hospital gown, his long hair was loose, and he was leaning against the headboard reading a book because his right leg was in a cast.

A bunch of lilies with dewdrops on their petals sat on the bedside table. The nurse had drawn back the white curtains of the ward, letting in the golden morning sunlight and a subtle fragrance. It was a peaceful and serene moment.

This was the scene that greeted Hikaru Midorikawa when he pushed open the hospital room door. He paused slightly, his deep eyes filled with a sense of inquiry and scrutiny as he looked at the person on the bed. He nodded to the nurse, and after she left, he closed the door behind him. Under her slightly wary gaze, he pulled up a chair by the bed and sat down.

Hikaru Midorikawa sat relaxed in the chair, his gaze sweeping around the ward as if he were surveying the environment.

After observing him, Hikaru Midorikawa's gaze fell on Shuichi Akai's face. Their eyes met, and silence spread between them. After a while, he spoke: "Although the surveillance cameras on the section of road where the incident occurred yesterday were old and no longer operational, there happened to be a car nearby whose dashcam captured some footage—"

Hikaru Midorikawa wanted to test the other party's intentions, so he only said this one sentence and stopped. He stared at the young man on the hospital bed, trying to find something on his face with his keen insight.

When Shuichi Akai, using the alias Dai Moroboshi, saw the newcomer, he showed some wariness, which is a reaction that an ordinary person might have. However, when he saw Hikaru Midorikawa, he realized that this was the person that the organization had sent to monitor Akemi Miyano.

After guessing the other party's identity, Shuichi Akai was somewhat surprised that he would come looking for him so quickly, and that he didn't seem to intend to get rid of him, but instead said such a cryptic thing.

Is this a threat or an attempt to probe his purpose and identity?

Various thoughts raced through his mind, and finally, Shuichi Akai decided to stick to his fake identity.

When he fabricated this false identity, in order to be more easily recruited, he claimed to have a background as a hoodlum and to be currently being hunted. Because he dropped out of school early, he is somewhat clever and resourceful, shrewd, cautious, and ruthless.

He pretended not to understand, but a hint of fear and ferocity flashed in his eyes. He calmly said, "I don't know what you're talking about, and who you are."

Having revealed this flaw, he took the initiative and inquired about the other person's identity and purpose. Although he knew the person might not answer his questions, this was the reaction a reasonably clever ordinary person would have.

Hikaru Midorikawa narrowed his eyes. He crossed his arms and, although he was sitting in a chair with his line of sight at the same level, he gave the impression of looking down at everyone from a high position.

He didn't answer the other person's question, but stared at him for a few seconds, then suddenly stood up and said coldly, "You don't need to know, and be careful."

After making those harsh remarks, Midorikawa Hikaru turned and left the ward. He then found the attending physician in charge, asked for a copy of the examination report, took a picture of it, saved it, and went to the payment hall to pay the remaining hospitalization and treatment fees.

Only after doing all this did he leave the hospital.

Meanwhile, Tsurumi Kawakami also began taking Amuro on missions.

After two days of friendly interaction, Tsurumi Naru felt that their friendship was already very strong, so when Curaçao sent him a mission, he immediately informed Amuro Tooru and explained the mission in detail.

They plan to sneak onto a cruise ship in Tokyo Bay tomorrow night and obtain information on the core ingredients of Fujiwara Pharmaceutical's latest drug from the president of Fujiwara Corporation, who will be hosting the launch banquet.

Tsurumi looked at the intelligence sent by Curaçao, which included a photo of President Fujiwara, a report on drug development, photos of the ship's exterior, and detailed interior layout diagrams.

"How do we get in and pretend to be invited guests or ship staff?" Tsurumi Nagare handed the information to Amuro Tooru, pondered for a moment, and then asked him.

Amuro Tooru quickly scanned the intelligence report, making a special note of the ship's layout, and then destroyed the report.

Amuro Tooru thought for a moment and said, "I'll disguise myself as a ship's waiter, and you'll pretend to be a guest and sneak into the banquet. If necessary, you can create chaos to cover for me to obtain the drug information."

Tsurumi Kawakami nodded. "Yes, I understand."

...

The following evening, Tokyo Bay.

A luxurious cruise ship slowly sailed out of Tokyo Bay and headed towards the open sea. On board were most of the prominent business figures from the Kanto region.

At this moment, the banquet hall was filled with the sounds of clinking glasses and the soft music of violin and piano flowing through the room. Famous figures in the pharmaceutical industry could be seen here, standing in twos and threes, chatting quietly with smiles on their faces.

Meanwhile, the host of the banquet, Fujiwara no Taro, moved around the banquet hall with his two sons, expanding and consolidating his network of contacts while introducing his two sons to the guests.

With half an hour to go before the press conference, the venue was already set up and the atmosphere was heating up.

Tsurumi Kawakami blended into the crowd. Because he was pretending to be a rich second-generation, he wore a royal blue suit tonight. His short hair was styled, with the hair in front combed back and fixed with hair gel, revealing a full and smooth forehead and a pair of bright golden eyes.

His gaze occasionally swept towards the host of the banquet. Fujiwara Taro was sixty years old. His hair was half gray, and his face had far fewer wrinkles than those of people his age. He was not overweight or hunched over. He had an ordinary appearance, and his face was often smiling. He looked like an approachable middle-aged man.

His two sons beside him were more handsome than him. The elder son was serious and unsmiling, while the younger son, who was more than ten years younger, was born late in life and had a somewhat frivolous and flirtatious manner.

Tsurumi Kawakami memorized the information he had observed and walked along the edge of the crowd, keeping an eye on his target's movements. His attention soon fell on the buffet area. He looked around to make sure his target was still in the banquet hall, then grabbed a glass of champagne from a waiter and headed to the buffet area.

At that moment, Tooru Amuro, disguised as a waiter, walked over. He was wearing a cruise ship staff uniform, but his blond hair and dark skin made him stand out among the group of waiters.

Amuro Tooru glanced at Fujiwara Taro, who was about to give a speech, and then, taking advantage of the opportunity to clear the tableware, whispered to Tsurumi Nagaru: "It wasn't found in the room upstairs. It was probably taken with the target."

After saying that, Amuro Tooru paused and added, "We'll take action during the press conference later."

Hearing his words, Tsurumi Kawakami nodded obediently. At this moment, the crowd in the banquet hall began to move forward, and Fujiwara Taro had already gone up on stage to speak.

Amuro Tooru gave Tsurumi Naru a look and slipped away. He held a piece of cake, looked it over, and finally popped it into his mouth. Tsurumi Naru followed the crowd forward, standing at a spot that was neither too close nor too far.

After Fujiwara Taro finished his presentation on stage, he took a USB drive out of his suit pocket, and the projector started working, displaying an introduction to the latest drug developed by Fujiwara Pharmaceuticals on the screen.

Tsurumi Kawakami's eyes lit up, and he stared intently at the USB drive, ignoring what Fujiwara Taro on the stage was saying.

In the corner, Amuro Tooru paused for a second when Fujiwara Taro took out the USB drive, but when he saw the content on the projection screen, he frowned slightly and had a bad feeling.

As it turned out, Amuro Tooru's premonition was correct.

Curacao's task for them was to obtain information on the core ingredients of a newly developed health-oriented drug from Fujiwara Pharmaceuticals, while Fujiwara Taro was now describing a powerful heart-saving pill.

So, was the mission information incorrect, or did Fujiwara Pharmaceutical temporarily replace them?
