When Li Baichuan and Biancheng returned, the whole family was already up. Li Baichuan picked up the child and kissed him.
The two little ones weren't shy at all and were fine with anyone taking care of them, but they were closer to Li Baichuan whenever he was around.
They scrambled to jump into his arms, and Li Baichuan sat on the sofa with one of them on each side.
"Did things go smoothly last night?" Commander Guo asked, noticing that he seemed relaxed and that nothing had gone wrong.
"Grandpa, everything went smoothly." Li Baichuan noticed that everyone in the family was looking at him, and then he realized that he hadn't told them yet.
Seeing the child, they didn't care about anything else.
"That's good. When you come back, call home first. We'll keep watch for you. The policies change every day, and we don't know what will happen next."
Su's father chimed in, saying that it's better to have someone watching over them than to be clueless and stumbling around aimlessly, so they can know immediately if anything happens.
“Okay.” Li Baichuan agreed without any hesitation.
Suti had something on her mind, so even though she was very sleepy, she got up on time. When she saw that everyone in her family was already up, she thought she had overslept.
"Nannan, why don't you sleep a little longer?" Guo Xuqing had just glanced at the breakfast in the kitchen when she saw her daughter coming downstairs.
She was hoping to let her sleep a little longer since she finally got back, because once she started working, she would have to get up on time. She remembered that she used to love to sleep in.
"We didn't have enough time yesterday, so I plan to take Baichuan and the others to explore Shanghai properly, so they won't be completely lost next time we come."
Suti went over and picked up the two little ones. They were so excited to see her after not seeing her all night.
Suti laughed so hard that drool dripped down his face. He saw that Biancheng had returned, so it seemed that last night had gone very smoothly.
“That’s fine too. It’s good to have a good look around Shanghai, so those clueless people won’t keep coming here,” Guo Xuqing replied.
Many people know that Baichuan has arrived and are trying every means to find him.
Anyone with half a brain could see what they were thinking; Guo Xuqing knew what kind of person her son-in-law was.
She didn't want them to associate with those scheming people either; she was afraid her son-in-law would suffer.
She was also afraid of offending her son-in-law, as her daughter wouldn't give her any face, which would be even more awkward. It would be better not to meet him at all.
They didn't have any relatives, and the only elder they could be considered had been sent to the countryside, so no one could say anything about it.
“We can’t stay here for more than two days. Once we get back to Beijing, they won’t be able to find us.” Suti knew what her mother meant.
They ran away after breakfast, but they never expected that even after hiding from the neighbors in the compound and their parents' colleagues, they would still be run into outside.
"Sister-in-law, where are we going today?" Biancheng was very excited. He felt that he had missed something important last night, so he was hoping that his sister-in-law could take him to see more of the world today.
"Let's go rent a rickshaw first," Suti said, wanting to take them to various workplaces and some more secluded places.
We need to at least familiarize ourselves with the streets and alleys of Shanghai, otherwise they won't know where the pickup point is when they come back next time.
"Just follow your sister-in-law." Li Baichuan followed behind his wife, knowing she was still jealous.
"Okay, I'll do whatever you say, sister-in-law." Biancheng then realized that Brother Chuan was keeping his distance from him today. What was he doing? Did he not shower last night and smell?
Suti looked at the two of them strangely, and then he saw that silly-looking Biancheng over there and got a headache. No wonder Baichuan could get along with him.
The two of them had the same thought process; one kept talking about his brother Chuan, while the other treated Biancheng like a child.
Suti took two people to the rickshaw company, which in Shanghai was now state-owned.
The person working there was now considered a permanent employee, and had a higher status than before. Suti rented two cars as required.
The main problem is that there's not enough room for the three of them to sit, and if they buy anything else, there won't be any place to put it.
"Comrade, could you show us around Shanghai, especially the state-owned enterprises? It would be best to take the back roads."
Suti rented three hours, which was enough for a morning.
"Okay." The two drivers weren't surprised by her request; after all, Shanghai was a big city.
Many business travelers also rent cars from them to drive around Shanghai and see the sights; they're very familiar with this service.
Su Ti and Li Baichuan enjoyed the morning breeze and admired the panoramic view of Shanghai. They rarely had such a comfortable and carefree time.
Li Baichuan was actually more familiar with this place than Biancheng; his brother-in-law had taken him to many places last time.
However, time was limited, so we only visited a few important places.
This time, the places he went with his wife were much more detailed, and she introduced them to the places very carefully along the way.
They went over what each place was called in Shanghai, and which alley led to which place.
They even hand-drew a route map for them, and as they walked along, they looked at the map and memorized almost every location.
"That's where my dad used to work. This area is full of state-owned factories," Suti pointed to the rows of buildings in front of Baichuan and the others.
The houses in Shanghai are relatively concentrated, and many landmark buildings are easy to find.
“I passed by here last time, and my brother brought me here.” Su Ti stopped the car ahead and led them out to walk.
They've seen everything they wanted to see before, and now this area is all that's left. They can walk around on their own, so they let the two drivers on the other side go back first.
They'll take the tram home later, and at noon they can have a meal at the nearby state-run restaurant.
"I'll take you to see the area next door. There are so many factories in Shanghai, this whole area is full of them."
Suti didn't plan to go to the place where her father used to work. She knew the area well and had walked all the alleys since she was a child.
"There are more factories in Shanghai than in Beijing," Biancheng exclaimed. He had noticed that, in fact, Shanghai was developing faster than Beijing.
"There are many factories, many people, and it's chaotic." Suti knew that there was no good public security at the moment, and this area was the most chaotic.
Shanghai is different from Beijing. In Beijing, there are more government officials and various government departments, while factories are a secondary development.
Shanghai has a lot of factories, all kinds of factories, while government agencies are secondary.
In terms of prosperity, the two places were roughly equal in later generations.
"Suti?" Just as Suti was walking around and introducing the various factories to them, a voice from behind interrupted them.
Suti turned around and looked over, but didn't recognize him at first, only feeling that he looked somewhat familiar.
"Don't you recognize me? I'm Zhang Leping. We were high school classmates. My aunt's family and your parents' family live in the same residential compound."
When the man saw that Suti didn't recognize her, he quickly introduced himself.
