Chapter 6: Pamper Your Own Man

Later, under the pretext of needing to raise a child, they were asked to continue sending money.

They were only freed from their predicament when their child died and her cousin, now living a life of luxury, no longer looked down on their family.

In their past lives, their whole family was just stepping stones; they forcibly lowered their intelligence so that they could only serve their cousin.

"Don't cry. We can go back to visit our family during the Chinese New Year. If we have the chance in the future, we can also bring our parents to live with us."

When Wei Baichuan saw Su Ti crying, he was at a loss and wanted to wipe away her tears.

Looking at his rough hands and then at her delicate face, he just couldn't bring himself to do it.

All they could do was awkwardly try to coax people, and they could only say a few words over and over again.

"There will be an opportunity." Suti knew it wouldn't be long. It was August 1974 now, and in a little over three years, the college entrance examination would be reinstated.

She can take the exam and go back, openly and honestly, with her man and children.

“Wear this watch, so you can check the time when you go to work.” Suti put the watch on Wei Baichuan’s wrist.

In her past life, this watch ended up on her father-in-law's wrist, and she thought they had bought it themselves.

She had a watch, a men's watch, probably a gift from her parents to their son-in-law.

“Wife, I don’t want it. This is your dowry, you keep it. I do rough work, don’t damage it.”

Wei Baichuan felt that his wife was inexplicably nice to him, even though she used to avoid him whenever she saw him.

"This is a men's version. My parents bought it for you as a gift for their son-in-law. If you don't accept it, does that mean you don't want to acknowledge him as their son-in-law?"

“There are only two children in my family, my brother and me. People say that a son-in-law is like half a son. You just need to take good care of them in the future.”

"Besides, we're husband and wife, we'll never distinguish between 'yours' and 'mine' again. Are you going to keep being so polite to me? You won't take anything I offer, are you stupid?"

If it were someone else, like Wei Baidao, he would probably only complain that it wasn't enough.

Looking at his large, rough hands, it's not hard to tell what kind of life he used to lead.

"Wife, you're so good to me." This was the first time in Wei Baichuan's life that someone had taken him to heart.

There were many children in his family before. He had three older sisters, one older brother, and one younger brother. He was in the middle, neither the eldest nor the youngest.

He was neither the eldest son who could establish a household and provide for his parents in their old age, nor the youngest son who was good at sweet-talking and pleasing to his parents.

He did the most work but ate the least; no one in the family ever cared about him.

He lived like a walking corpse every day until he met Suti.

He didn't know what words to use to describe her beauty, whether she was happy or angry.

He found her exceptionally attractive when she was wronged or tired from work.

That was the first time in his life he had ever wanted something, but he knew he wasn't good enough for it.

During that time, he risked his life to hunt in the mountains, just to exchange for some money. He didn't think about anything else, he just wanted to buy her some good food to nourish her.

I don't know why, but she was afraid of him whenever she saw him. She would glare at him angrily every time, and he wouldn't dare to come near her. He could only give those things to her cousin to pass on to her.

Until a few days ago when she fell into the river, he rushed over like a madman to try to save her.

But his brother was by the river at the time and had already caught the person, so he could only save the other one as well.

There were rumors circulating in the brigade at the time, and he knew the importance of reputation.

He felt like the sky was falling; she was going to marry his brother?

Just when he was at his wit's end, something happened that changed his life, and she became his wife.

He married her in a daze, not asking for anything else, only feeling that he could treat her well openly and honestly.

He helps her with her chores, washes the clothes she can't wash, and buys her the good food she likes.

"You're my man, who else should I be good to if not you? You have to protect me from now on, you have to stand by me." Su Ti leaned over and kissed her man's cheek, she would pamper her own man.

Wei Baichuan stood frozen in place. Just now, just now, his wife kissed him?

"Um, um... I'll go get some hot water." Wei Baichuan dashed out, almost tripping over the door frame.

Suti blushed with embarrassment at the sight of such a large man, finding it all quite amusing.

She continued to sort through the contents of the box, which contained mostly clothes and shoes, as well as a cotton quilt.

The rest were all food items: White Rabbit milk candy, milk powder, malted milk powder, canned fruit, boxed pastries, and walnut shortbread wrapped in parchment paper.

Suti took out the quilt; the Wei family hadn't prepared anything for them.

The blankets on their bed were the ones Wei Baidao had changed; she found them disgusting.

She took out a straw mat from her storage space and laid it out. It was still very hot, and the thick quilt couldn't cover her.

She changed the blanket in the room to a thin one, changed everything on the bed, and will slowly tidy up the rest of the things later.

Rural houses are spacious, unlike city dwellers who live upstairs and several generations of a family live together.

The Wei family only had three sons, and even though their house was the most dilapidated in the family and had a bad orientation.

But we can tidy it up and stay there temporarily, since we'll be separating soon anyway.

She only discovered an envelope inside when she shook out the blanket. When she opened it, she found a thick stack of ten-yuan notes.

There were also some tickets, including rare bicycle tickets, sewing machine tickets, and various industrial tickets.

Five hundred yuan in total. Looking at the things in my hand, I realized this was the dowry money my parents had given me.

She felt like she had been fed by an ungrateful wretch in her past life, and she couldn't understand how Su Nianyou could be so self-righteous when spending this money.
