Chapter 157: We are young. Wasn’t it the same for us back then?

The corners of Cheng Wanying's mouth rose slightly, and a hint of cunning flashed in her eyes.

She gently closed the book in her hand, took off her reading glasses, turned her head to look at Lu Huaizheng, and said with a hint of playfulness: "Guess?"

Lu Huaizheng made a random guess: "Is it the boss and his daughter-in-law who are back?"

Cheng Wanying nodded, her smile deepening: "Yes, they are back. It's quite a coincidence that the couple came to Beijing for training, so they can stay at home for two months."

Lu Huaizheng knew that Lu Chen had returned to participate in the commander's training.

When the list of names of that group of officers was submitted, he signed it personally.

He also knew that Lu Chen's name was included in it.

There were still two or three days before the class started, but I didn't expect him to come back early.

Looking at Lu Huaizheng's expression, Cheng Wanying thought he was unhappy.

"What's wrong? You've been missing your son all the time. Now that he's back, why don't you smile at all? I heard from Lu Chen that he came back two days early. That was because there was nothing important at work. What's wrong? You're not going to scold him for this?" Cheng Wanying asked.

"No." Lu Huaizheng said, "He is now the head of a group, and he knows how to do things. I'm not praising him, but this kid has been calm and mature since he was a child. At least he makes me worry."

"Then why are you keeping a straight face?"

"Really?" Lu Huai touched his face.

"have."

"Then I smile more?"

"You should smile more."

Lu Huaizheng chuckled twice and looked up at the ceiling with a look of emotion and relief in his eyes.

He shook his head again, with a hint of teasing in his tone: "This kid has finally come to his senses. He used to have a cold face all day long, and I thought he would be single for the rest of his life."

As he spoke, he couldn't help laughing, and the wrinkles on his face smoothed out. "I didn't expect that my wife would marry me as soon as she said she would. At this rate, it won't be long before we have grandchildren."

Cheng Wanying patted the back of his hand gently, with a hint of tenderness and helplessness in her eyes: "You, don't think too much. Xu Nuo and Lu Chen are both busy with their careers now, and they probably won't have children for a while."

Lu Huaizheng's smile remained unchanged, and his tone was somewhat satisfied: "It's okay. Anyway, I thought the eldest brother was going to be a bachelor, but I didn't expect that he would actually marry a wife. I am already very satisfied."

As he spoke, a hint of relief flashed in his eyes, as if a stone that had been weighing on his heart for years had finally fallen to the ground.

The old couple chatted for half the night, and the creaking sound from the roof was still heard intermittently, sometimes slow, sometimes rapid, as if telling of the warmth upstairs.

Although Lu Huaizheng and Cheng Wanying said that they didn't care, their ears pricked up involuntarily. The expressions on their faces were sometimes embarrassed, sometimes relieved, and occasionally they couldn't help but smile at each other.

It was not until late at night that they gradually felt sleepy.

However, the noise on the roof continued, causing them to have big dark circles under their eyes when they woke up the next morning.

Lu Huaizheng rubbed his eyes, yawned, and said with a bit of helplessness: "These two kids are really energetic."

Cheng Wanying also rubbed her temples, with a trace of fatigue on her face, but her eyes were full of smiles: "We are young, weren't we like this back then?"

Hearing this, Lu Huaizheng couldn't help laughing and shook his head: "Yeah, that's right."

The next morning, sunlight poured into the room through the gaps in the curtains.

Lu Chen woke up feeling refreshed.

On the other side of the bed, Xu Nuo was still sleeping. He leaned forward and gently kissed her on the face, then got dressed and got out of bed.

He tiptoed downstairs and came to the living room, where he saw old man Lu Huaizheng sitting on the sofa, holding a newspaper in his hand with a focused expression.

Lu Chen smiled slightly, walked up and greeted him: "Good morning, Dad."

When Lu Huaizheng heard the voice, he closed the newspaper, looked up at him, and his gaze stayed on his energetic face for a moment. The words he wanted to say were swallowed back.

He originally wanted to remind Lu Chen to keep down the noise at night. After all, they were old and had light sleep and could be easily woken up.

But seeing his son's energetic appearance, he finally suppressed his words and praised him instead: "Well, good morning. It's good that you have been running for many years. Keep it up and go exercise."

Lu Chen nodded with a faint smile on his face: "Okay, then I'll go for a run first, Dad, see you later."

After saying that, he turned and walked towards the door with brisk steps and a straight back.

After Lu Chen left, other people in the family also got up one after another.

Lu Feng came down from upstairs in a hurry, with several bruises on his face and his eyelids a little swollen.

While sorting his clothes, he walked downstairs. This place was far from his workplace, so he didn't plan to have breakfast at home.

Seeing Lu Huaizheng, he hurriedly braked and greeted him politely: "Dad, you're back?"

Lu Huaizheng glanced at him and saw the bruises on his face. His eyes showed concern: "What's wrong with your face? How did it happen?"

Lu Feng's eyes flickered and he lied casually: "Oh, I accidentally bumped into the door frame last night, it's okay."

"Be careful next time. You're already in your twenties." Lu Huaizheng warned.

"Thank you, Dad. I'm going to work." After saying that, he hurriedly put on his shoes and left without looking back, as if he was afraid of being asked more questions.

Facing this majestic stepfather, Lu Feng always behaved cautiously, fearing to displease him.

Lu Huaizheng looked at his back and shook his head, feeling a little helpless, but didn't say anything more.

After a while, Xu Nuo also got up.

To be honest, she didn't feel as well as Lu Chen. After sitting on the train for a whole day and tossing and turning for half the night, her waist and legs were sore and her eyelids were still fighting.

If she didn't have to report today, she would never get up so early.

"Nono is up so early too?" Lu Huaizheng saw his eldest daughter-in-law at a glance.

As daughters-in-law, the second daughter-in-law sleeps until noon on days when she is not working, while the eldest daughter-in-law gets up so early.

It’s not that Lu Huaizheng, as a father-in-law, cares so much, but deep down, he prefers hardworking people.

Moreover, he always felt that a diligent person should get up early, whether it was to study, do housework or exercise, any of which was much more meaningful than lying in bed and sleeping in.

Xu Nuo was still feeling sleepy just now, but when he heard what Mr. Lu said, he woke up instantly: "Dad, good morning!"

Lu Huaizheng put down the newspaper, and said with some satisfaction: "I have heard about what you have done recently, it is very good. It is not easy to achieve such results at work."

Xu Nuo smiled slightly, with a hint of humility on his face: "Thank you, Dad. I will keep working hard..."

Lu Huaizheng nodded, his tone full of affirmation: "Well, it's a good thing for young people to be hardworking, but don't overwork yourself."

Xu Nuo smiled and replied, "I know, Dad."

The two chatted briefly and Lu Huaizheng didn't say anything else, but there was a little more kindness in his eyes when he looked at Xu Nuo.

He was very satisfied with his daughter-in-law. Both her ability and character made him feel that Lu Chen had married the right person.

When breakfast was served, Lu Chen came back from outside. He was wearing thin clothes and his forehead was covered with sweat.

He took a quick shower and then sat down to eat.

"Where are Lu Feng and his wife?" Lu Chen asked.

Cheng Wanhua waved her hand: "Don't worry about it. The second brother went to work, and Manman didn't get up until this morning to eat. Let's eat our own food, and after dinner you can go and send Manman to register at the university."

After breakfast, everyone in the family went about their own business, and Zhang Man came down from upstairs carrying Lu Yiyi.

She plans to go back to her parents' home today to ask her parents for the money back, and Lu Yiyi still has to be taken care of by her mother-in-law.

As she approached the door with the child in her arms, she heard some noises coming from inside the house.

"What are you going to do about the second brother and his wife? Are you going to keep it a secret from Huai Zheng?"

"What else can we do if we don't hide it? He has already done a lot for Lu Feng and his wife. There is only that little money in the family account. Could it be that he really used it all to fill the bottomless pit of the second brother's family?" Cheng Wanying's words were tinged with anger.

Zhang Man tightened her grip around the child and her expression turned grim.
