Chapter 276 The Enviable Halo
Lin Ya was also stunned when she saw the room full of people. Obviously, she didn't expect so many people to come to study together today.
Dean Qi was sitting at the head of the long table in the conference room, talking to a gray-haired woman next to him. When he saw Lin Ya come in, he turned his gaze to her.
"Hello, leaders and colleagues." Lin Ya greeted them calmly, "Today we are going to look at the last part of the translation of this book. I will project it on the wall so that everyone can study together."
Lin Ya's slender fingers spread the translated materials on the projector, adjusted the projector to the appropriate position, and projected a clear image onto the white walls of the conference room.
"Let's just read this for now. If you need to turn the page, please speak up."
The rustling sound of pens scratching on notebooks could be heard one after another, and from time to time someone would come close to their neighbor and exchange opinions in a low voice.
"Do we need to confirm this parameter again?" Director Yu of the Department of Cardiology pushed up his glasses and pointed at a certain data on the projector and asked in a low voice.
"I've made a note of it. We can compare it with our surgical records after the meeting." The resident doctor next to him responded immediately and quickly wrote down Director Yu's words in a notebook.
Lin Ya sat down next to the projector quietly. Just as she spread out her notebook on her knees, she heard Dean Qi's voice ring out in the conference room: "Lin Ya, come here."
She looked up and saw Dean Lin looking at her with a smile, and so was the woman sitting next to Dean Lin.
"Okay, I'll be right there." She replied softly. She noticed that everyone was looking at her curiously, and she couldn't help but quicken her pace.
"Dean Lin, do you have something to talk to me about?" Lin Ya asked politely while standing aside.
Dean Qi stood up and patted her on the shoulder with a smile. This sudden action made Lin Ya's body stiffen noticeably.
"Don't be nervous." The dean said with a smile, "I want to introduce someone to you today."
As soon as he finished speaking, the lady sitting next to him stood up.
He was wearing well-tailored clothes, his gray hair was tied up, and he wore a pair of black-framed glasses on his nose. His eyes behind the lenses were calm and sharp.
Lin Ya had already guessed that the person Dean Qi wanted to introduce to her was her.
"Director Cai, this is the Lin Ya I told you about."
Director Cai gave a polite smile and said, "I have heard of your great name for a long time."
After that, she stretched out her hand and took the initiative to shake hands with Lin Ya: "Let me introduce myself. I am Cai Zhen from the Foreign Language Publishing House. I came here specially to see you today."
Lin Ya quickly reached out and held Director Cai's hand, her palm slightly warm: "Hello, Director Cai! I don't know why you came to see me..."
Dean Qi smiled and interrupted: "Director Cai read the book you translated and admired your professional skills and language ability. He came here specially to discuss cooperation with you."
Lin Ya herself didn't know clearly, weren't the things she translated only circulated within the hospital?
Why are people from the Foreign Languages Press here?
Director Cai seemed to see her confusion and explained with a smile: "Our publishing house is preparing a series of international medical frontier books, and we need a translator who is both professional and proficient in foreign languages. Dean Qi recommended you, and I have also read your work. It really meets our needs."
Lin Ya never expected that her translation work would attract the attention of the publishing house, and she never expected that the other party would come to her in person.
"Thank you for your recognition... But, Director Cai, I may not have time to do too much translation work, because I need to see patients and perform surgery, this is my specialty." Lin Ya also politely refused.
Compared to this, the task she shouldered was like a mountain pressing down on her, making it hard for her to breathe.
She no longer had the time and energy to translate...and she was destined to not be able to live the ordinary life that ordinary people wanted.
Director Cai smiled and said, "Specifically, we have read the content you translated and feel it is still very accurate, so we plan to publish a translated version of the book. As for royalties and so on, we can discuss it in detail."
So that's how it is.
After Lin Ya understood the situation, she thought for a moment and said, "Director Cai, these are just first drafts that have not been proofread. I'm afraid they are not rigorous enough."
"We have all read it and feel that the translation is very accurate and you are very professional." Director Cai gave a high evaluation.
Translation requires "faithfulness", "expressiveness" and "elegance", but medical books are not literature and do not require such high artistry.
It requires precision and rigor.
"Okay." Lin Ya agreed.
"Then let's talk about it in detail?" Director Cai asked.
"Then let's go to my office." Dean Qi took the initiative to suggest.
"You are the dean. I will follow your arrangements when I arrive at your territory." Director Cai said with a smile.
After Dean Qi, Director Cai and Lin Ya left the conference room, the originally quiet conference room suddenly became boiling like cold water poured into a frying pan.
"Dr. Lin is really amazing this time! The publishing house came to us personally."
"They studied abroad and speak English like their mother tongue. All we can do is envy them..."
Wang Fang was stunned for a while before she came back to her senses. She glanced at Xu Nuo, and seeing that she was taking notes with her head down, she gently nudged her with her elbow.
Xu Nuo raised his head and looked at Wang Fang's face: "Sister Wang, what's wrong?"
"How much is the royalties from publishing a book?" she asked Xu Nuo.
Xu Nuo has published three books in one go. What's the difference between asking this question and directly asking about her income?
Xu Nuo knew that Wang Fang definitely didn't mean that. What she wanted to ask was definitely how much Lin Ya would earn after publishing the book.
Xu Nuo thought for a while before saying, "I'm not sure about this. It depends on how the publishing house negotiates with Lin Ya, right?"
"I feel like it must be a lot of money." Wang Fang cares not only about these things, she cares more about the reputation this book will bring to Lin Ya.
"Maybe." Xu Nuo replied casually.
Wang Fang knew that Xu Nuo would definitely not envy these. After all, she already had enough glory around her.
She was really depressed. There were so many talented people in the department, and they were all so young. When would she be able to make it?
"Look, our Dean Qi is so happy that he can't stop grinning. Dean Qi didn't care about your publishing the other times, right? But this time, he is very enthusiastic." Wang Fang smiled and said, "Xiao Xu, it seems that Lin Ya has surpassed you. In Dean Qi's mind, Lin Ya is more important."
Xu Nuo curled the corners of his mouth slightly.
She knew that Wang Fang was envious, and this was a normal mentality. If she were Wang Fang, she would definitely be extremely envious.
"Sister Wang, there is a reason why Director Qi is so enthusiastic." Xu Nuo explained to her, "If this book can be published, the name of our hospital must be written on it."
Who wouldn't want such a good thing?
