Farewell
"What nonsense are you talking about? Get out of here, all of you! Where's Chen Che?! Where is Chen Che?!"
The medicine bottles and other items on the bedside table were all smashed to the ground with a clatter, and glass shards were scattered everywhere. Inside the ward, a man wearing a hospital gown ripped off the testing equipment from his body, threw off the blanket, and was about to get out of bed!
The doctors and nurses inside the room instantly erupted into chaos, frantically trying to restrain the person on the bed: "Mr. Wen, please calm down!"
"Mr. Wen, you cannot get out of bed yet!"
"Mr. Wen! Mr. Wen..."
Qi finally broke down, shaking off the hands that were restraining him, and roared, "What Mr. Wen! My surname is Qi! My name is Qi Zui!!!"
"Let go, let go of me! Where's Chen Che? How is Chen Che? I need to find Chen Che!!"
"The patient is agitated, quickly control him! Hurry!"
Another chorus of gasps of surprise rang out, and the nurses even had to call security personnel to forcibly subdue the agitated man on the bed.
"Quickly! Inject chlorpromazine!"
As a sedative was injected into his body, the man who had been struggling on the bed trembled and finally calmed down.
A doctor wiped the sweat pouring down his forehead, adjusted his glasses which had nearly been knocked off, and hurried to the man outside the ward, saying anxiously, "Family member, the patient's condition has stabilized..."
"Can we hold a press conference now?" the man in the beige suit asked with a slight smile.
"Ah?" The doctor was somewhat shocked. "This... although the patient's condition is currently stable, but... it seems the shock was too great, causing memory confusion..."
Hearing this, the answer is obvious.
no.
Wen Xushi nodded politely, "It's alright, your health is the most important thing. We can talk about other things later. I'll have to trouble you during this time."
"It's nothing, it's no trouble at all..." The doctor was flattered and quickly waved his hand.
"I heard... there was someone who died in the same accident as him. I wonder how his friend is doing now?"
The doctor, who had just taken a step, stopped abruptly upon hearing this and couldn't help but take out a handkerchief to wipe his sweat.
For some reason, when talking to this patient's family member, even though the other person was always smiling, he always felt an extremely oppressive atmosphere.
The doctor thought for a moment, then stammered, "Oh...it seems there was such a person...but that person died on the way to the hospital despite all efforts to save them, and it seems...their surname was also Wen..."
At this point, the doctor finally seemed to realize something and quickly apologized, "Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't realize that was yours... Oh, I'm so sorry..."
Upon hearing this, the man's eyes darkened for a moment, but quickly returned to normal. His brow furrowed slightly, and he said with a hint of sadness, "It's alright, you didn't mean it..."
As she spoke, her eyes filled with sorrow as she looked at the person still struggling in the ward, and she seemed to choke up as she said, "Now I only pray that my younger brother... can recover as soon as possible. My father is still waiting to see him at home..."
Is he dead?
Wen Xushi's gaze gradually turned cold.
The doctor was still trying to console him, but Wen Xushi's gaze inadvertently swept over the corner of the wall. A few fallen leaves drifted over from that corner, but he didn't notice anything unusual.
Behind the corner, Wen Xubai was huddled, his hands trembling involuntarily.
"You saw it?" Ruan Xing appeared out of nowhere and whispered in his ear.
Wen Xubai nodded, but was still trembling uncontrollably.
"Don't worry, the news has already been spread. Even if they have the guts, they won't dare to make a move in the hospital like this." Ruan Xing took out a cigarette case and handed it to Wen Xubai.
Wen Xubai did not answer.
Finding himself unwelcome, Ruan Xing lit a cigarette himself.
"Tomorrow, when there are fewer reporters, I'll escort you out the back door."
If Wen Xubai hadn't insisted on confirming Qi Zui's safety, things wouldn't have become so complicated.
Seeing that Wen Xubai had his head down and remained silent for a long time, Ruan Xing exhaled a puff of smoke and said knowingly, "What, still not willing to leave?"
Wen Xubai was silent for a moment, then raised his eyes and said, "Let me see him one more time."
"Meet him?" Ruan Xing was a little shocked. "Aren't you afraid he'll stop you from leaving?"
“He can’t stop me,” Wen Xubai said calmly.
“That’s true. In his current state, who can he stop?” Ruan Xing agreed, took a deep drag on his cigarette, then stubbed it out at the ground. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the pharmacy not far away and seemed to understand something.
Are you afraid he'll try to kill himself?
Wen Xubai remained silent, which was taken as tacit agreement.
"Ha." Ruan Xing chuckled and touched his hair. "Are you so sure he'd love you so much he'd risk his life for you?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Ruan Xing was stunned when he saw Wen Xubai's determined eyes.
That's true, otherwise Qi Zui wouldn't be lying in the hospital now.
After finally being discharged from the ICU and transferred to a regular ward, the first thing Qi Zui did was look for "Chen Che." The doctors all said they didn't know him, and Qi Zui even refused to take his medication.
And there it is, spilled all over the ground again.
Wen Xushi had already left sometime earlier; he had to deal with company matters and couldn't stay for long.
The bodyguards patrolling outside the door were divided into two groups: half were sent by the Wen family to watch over Qi Zui, and the other half were sent by Ruan Xing to watch over the Wen family.
Ruan Xing exhaled his last tear and sighed, "Fine, maybe I'm just getting old and can't understand what you young people are thinking. After all, he's my own nephew. If something happens to him, I won't be able to face my sister in the afterlife."
"I'll arrange the meeting. After the meeting, you should leave immediately and not linger, so as not to cause any more trouble."
The handsome man leaned against the wall, his eyes lowered in deep thought for a long time. Suddenly, he looked at Ruan Xing and said earnestly, "Thank you."
Ruan Xing was taken aback by the stare. After regaining his senses, he raised an eyebrow and said, "What are you thanking me for? Consider this a favor you owe me. If you really want to thank me... there will be plenty of opportunities in the future."
With a slightly roguish air, and despite his advanced age, his well-maintained face slowly approached. Wen Xubai merely glanced at him calmly, then walked past him without looking back, heading towards the end of the corridor.
Ruan Xing: "..."
Night had fallen, and everyone except the doctors and nurses on duty had left. As the doctor finished his rounds in the last ward, a tall figure in leather boots slowly emerged from the shadows.
Outside the VIP ward, the bodyguards who were originally guarding the room had all been sent away by Ruan Xing. At this moment, the room was quiet, with only the steady breathing of the man on the bed.
Wen Xubai quietly closed the door and slowly walked to the bedside.
On the hospital bed, the man seemed to be sleeping very restlessly, his brows furrowed and his fingers clenched tightly around his body, as if he were very uneasy.
Wen Xubai carefully pulled his fingers away from the crumpled blanket and intertwined them with his own.
The man held on very tightly, his palms sweating.
Wen Xubai gently covered his face, his fingers sliding little by little from his chin to his forehead... It was the face he had sketched countless times.
Qi Zui's face was still covered with gauze, and the small cuts from the knife blade had already scabbed over, but his broken lip was still bruised.
Wen Xubai tried to smooth Qi Zui's furrowed brows, but perhaps his movements were too forceful, and he woke the sleeping man.
Qi Zui suddenly opened his eyes, and upon seeing the figure in the darkness, he was instinctively startled, his body sprang up defensively, and his clasped fingers instantly loosened!
But the next second, his movements clearly stopped.
"Ah Che...?" The man's voice trembled slightly, and it was hoarse because of his injuries.
"Is it you? A-Che?" The man seemed incredulous, his outstretched hand trembling.
In the darkness, Qi could not see Wen Xubai's face clearly, but how could he mistake that figure that was already engraved in his heart?
"It's me." A familiar voice rang out.
As soon as he finished speaking, Wen Xubai felt a tremendous force coming from him and was suddenly held tightly by the man's arm!
Wen Xubai was mindful of Qi Zui's injuries and dared not press down on him. But the man disregarded everything else at that moment, desperately pulling Wen Xubai into his arms, as if he wanted to hold Wen Xubai into his own body.
Wen Xubai didn't know how Qi Zui could still have so much strength despite being injured. Unable to struggle, he simply gave in.
After a long while, a warm drop fell onto Wen Xubai's face.
He was suddenly stunned, and cupped the face of the person in front of him in his hands. By the moonlight, he could see two glistening streaks of light on the person's cheeks.
"You cried?" Wen Xubai asked in surprise.
But the man held his hand, rubbed his face against his palm, and smiled, "It's good that you're alright..."
Wen Xubai was speechless.
Ruan Xing used the body of one of Wen Xuyuan's bodyguards as his substitute, so "Chen Che" on the ship was naturally one of the three who perished in the fire.
I quietly looked away and happened to see the pills by the bed.
I didn't take any medication other than painkillers.
Wen Xubai frowned. "Why aren't you taking your medicine properly?"
Qi Zui's face turned pale instantly. As if afraid of being blamed, he immediately poured all the pills he was supposed to take into his palm and swallowed them all at once.
Wen Xubai was startled and quickly brought over the water. He was relieved to see that Qi Zui swallowed it all without choking.
Before he could even speak, Qi Zui blurted out, "I'm fine! I'm completely healed, A-Che, really!"
The man even waved his arm deliberately, speaking earnestly: "Let's go home! I don't want to live here anymore! Everyone here is crazy, talking nonsense every day, trying to brainwash me, saying things like 'Wen family,' 'young master,' and 'missing,' but I don't believe them!"
"Let's go home, A-Che, take me home..." The man's bright eyes were filled with tears, and the smile on his lips seemed somewhat forced.
Wen Xubai lowered his eyelashes and slowly released his hand.
Watching Wen Xubai retreat, Qi Zui's expression suddenly turned somewhat panicked. He said anxiously, "Was it...was it too hasty? Then...then I'll stay a few more days! I promise to take my medicine properly, get proper treatment, and listen to the doctor! As long as you stay with me, A-Che, that's enough, as long as..."
“Qi Zui,” Wen Xubai interrupted him.
Looking into the man's incredulous eyes, Wen Xubai said, word by word, "What they said is all true."
Qi Zui's smile froze for a moment, but then immediately widened to a brighter one. "Is this some new kind of prank? Don't do this, A-Che, stop joking..."
"I'm not joking."
"Qi Zui, oh no, I should call you 'Wen Xuchi' now. Let me formally introduce myself, my name is 'Wen Xubai,' and I am your stand-in."
"Are you kidding me?" Qi Zui jerked off the blanket and tried to stand up, but forgot that he still had an injury on his leg. His knee hurt, and he fell to the ground!
Staring at the person leaning against the wall, watching him, a series of sharp, persistent pains radiated from his legs and body. But Qi Zui couldn't care less at that moment; an overwhelming sense of fear threatened to engulf him, as if everything was collapsing uncontrollably…
"Ache, help me..." Qi Zui's forehead veins bulged as he laboriously reached out his hand to Wen Xubai.
But Wen Xubai just stared at him coldly, his thin lips parted slightly, and every word was like a sharp needle, piercing his heart.
"Qi Zui, eighteen years ago, your father Wen Tingyi's mistress, Lin Xi, stole you from the Wen family to get revenge on Wen Tingyi. Your biological mother, Ruan Qing, was in a car accident on her way to find you, colliding with my parents and dying on the spot. Wen Tingyi adopted me under the guise of charity, but secretly despised me, used me, and tormented me..."
Upon hearing this, Qi Zui's pupils dilated, and he even stopped crawling.
Taking a deep breath, Wen Xubai continued, "Later, Lin Xi chose to take you away, changed her name to Qi Xi, and hid in Huaihua Lane to start a new life... But do you know what kind of life I was living?"
“A-Che…”
"Don't call me A-Che!" Wen Xubai slammed his wristwatch to the ground, and the dial shattered into pieces instantly!
Before the man could reach for his watch, Wen Xubai grabbed Qi Zui's chin and said fiercely, word by word, "Qi Zui, this is what you owe me! I've suffered for you all these years, and now... it's time for you to pay me back!"
"No, ah... no, there must be some misunderstanding..." Qi Zui grabbed Wen Xubai's wrist and shook his head frantically.
But the next second, the string of metal keys that landed in front of him shattered his last hope.
Wen Xubai sneered, "You already guessed that I killed Lin Xi, so why didn't you report it to the police?"
Qi Zui's eyes trembled instantly, and he said in a trembling voice, "It really is you... No, it's impossible... You're not that kind of person!"
Wen Xubai seemed to find it amusing, and suddenly flung his hand away, mocking, "You don't even know who I am, so what gives you the right to define what kind of person I am?"
Looking into Qi's most pained eyes, he said coldly, "She killed my parents, so she should go to the underworld and apologize to them in person."
"Speaking of which, you should thank me. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be living such a life of luxury..."
"Chen Che!" Qi finally couldn't listen anymore. The veins on his neck bulged from the force, and his eyes were bloodshot. "From the very beginning... you deliberately approached me...?"
"Qi Zui, between you and me, there is only exploitation... there is no love."
Wen Xubai's eyes were icy cold, devoid of any warmth, and his words were equally chilling.
With that, Wen Xubai abruptly strode out the door. The man on the ground chased after him like a madman, but he couldn't catch his lover's clothes no matter what he did, and could only roar helplessly, "Chen Che!!!"
He dared not stop, for the heart-wrenching screams behind him continued, and with each scream, Wen Xubai's heart was torn apart.
The lights at the information desk were already on, indicating that medical staff must have heard the noise.
His pace quickened until he ran out of the hospital building, at which point Wen Xubai suddenly clutched his chest and collapsed to the ground.
Ruan Xing had been waiting for him there for a long time.
Under the moonlight, the man wearing sunglasses extended his hand to him and smiled, "It's time to go."
