"Hello? Wen Xuchi! What on earth happened?!" Ruan Xing's voice on the other end of the phone was furious. "Where are you?! Don't you know the police are looking for you everywhere?!"

"Do you know that this will be considered fleeing from justice?!"

Inside the dimly lit carriage, a man hunched over, his arms resting on the steering wheel in front of him, his brows furrowed, as if he were enduring extreme pain.

The phone in the front seat kept ringing, and Ruan Xing's angry shouts grew louder and louder: "Hey! Did you hear me?! Hey! And where did you take Wen Xubai??? Let me tell you, you're a wanted criminal now! Do you know you're going to get him killed?!..."

"It wasn't me..." The hunched-over man finally opened his eyes slowly. Qi Zui, who had just been chased, couldn't help but pinch his throbbing brow, feeling extremely exhausted.

"What?"

Qi Zuiqiang, his hands trembling, gripped the steering wheel tightly. His vision blurred, and he said, word by word, "It wasn't me. I wasn't the one who took Wen Xubai away, and I wasn't the one who killed Wen Tingyi..."

He'd often heard people say that excessive fear could cause dizziness similar to low blood sugar, but he never believed it before. Now, he'd experienced it firsthand…

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, then Ruan Xing's voice suddenly calmed down, and he said in a deep voice, "Do you know who it is?"

Qi thought for a moment, then calmly said, "I guess it's Wen Xushi..."

Ruan Xing glanced at Zheng Min not far away while holding his phone, then silently walked to the other side of the tree and lowered his voice, saying, "Are you sure? Is it possible that it could be Qin Yalin or Wen Xuyuan?"

“No.” Qi Zui shook his head, his voice trembling even more: “Wen Xubai has already left the Wen family and poses no threat to Wen Xuyuan. As for Qin Yalin…” He rubbed his temples, “She is too busy taking care of herself to care about others.”

After a long pause, Qi Zui suddenly asked, "Do you have a tracking device on Wen Xubai?"

Ruan Xing paused for a moment, coughed, and said calmly, "Yes."

"Send it to me," Qi said directly.

Now is not the time to demand answers; the most important thing now is to ascertain Wen Xubai's safety.

"You're going?" Ruan Xing frowned and said, "No, you come back first to cooperate with the police investigation. I'll go find him."

"It's too late." Qi Zui slammed his head against the back seat, closed his eyes tightly, and said with suppressed anger, "There are police and media outside, you can't get out."

If he hadn't noticed something was wrong early on and escaped before the police could set up a cordon, he wouldn't be sitting in the car unharmed, calling Ruan Xing right now.

"Who do you take me for??? Even if I can't get out, does that mean there's no one else out there?" Ruan Xing was clearly displeased with his disrespect and began to shout again, "Come back first, I'll send someone..."

"It's too late!" The pent-up emotions finally erupted. The man, his neck flushed, slammed his fist on the steering wheel, roaring, "Wen Xubai's life is hanging in the balance! How can you expect me to cooperate with the police investigation?! Ruan Xing! You know what kind of person Wen Xushi is. If anything happens to A-Che…"

The words caught in his throat, bringing a sharp, suffocating feeling; he dared not think any further…

"I'm begging you, Ruan Xing, send it to me..." Qi Zui said in a trembling voice.

He's going crazy.

There was a long silence on the other end of the phone. Ruan Xing stood under the tree, holding his phone, staring at the name on the screen. He was suddenly surprised and felt a little strange. He hadn’t expected that Wen Xuchi would really care about Wen Xubai so much that he would disregard his own reputation and safety.

Accustomed to the feigned emotions amidst deceit and manipulation, Ruan Xing was never moved, no matter how touching the words of deep affection were. It was just empty talk; anyone could do that. But when real trouble struck, it was a case of "birds of a feather flock together, but in times of trouble, they fly away separately." He was already grateful if his partner didn't drag him down with them; to expect them to come to his rescue was utterly delusional.

He once thought that the relationship between Qi Zui and Wen Xubai must have been mixed with some self-interest. Just as Wen Xubai abandoned Qi Zui for freedom, Qi Zui would surely abandon Wen Xubai for his own safety.

But now it seems he misunderstood...

The feelings between the two seemed to be far more intense and profound than he had imagined.

"Ha." Ruan Xing suddenly chuckled.

Just like Wen Xubai back then, he could have directly made a deal with Wen Tingyi and left the Wen family as quickly as possible, but instead he took a roundabout way to find Ruan Xing. He originally thought that Wen Xubai wanted to get more benefits from him, after all, he couldn't possibly not understand the principle of profiting from both sides.

But now, he seemed to understand... Wen Xubai was afraid, afraid that Qi Zui's identity would be exposed first to the Wen family, and that those wolves and tigers in the Wen family would be detrimental to Qi Zui. Forget about gaining a foothold; he might be smothered to death under the covers on his very first day back in the Wen family.

Wen Xubai sought him out simply to use him to protect Qi Zui's safety, ensuring his safe return to the Wen family and, with Wen Xubai's support, to quickly strengthen his own power... However, he overlooked one thing: he didn't expect that the Wen family also had no intention of letting him go.

Ruan Xing's feelings became somewhat complicated. He thought that he might really be getting old, and he couldn't quite understand this kind of reckless love anymore.

After a long pause, he sighed, took out his phone, tapped a few times on the screen with practiced ease, and said helplessly, "Sent it to you."

"Thank you." The call was abruptly ended after that one hurried sentence.

Ruan Xing: "???"

Seriously, are all kids these days so rude?

On the highway, Qi Zui sped off following the displayed location. The man reflected in the rearview mirror had a serious and silent expression, his face as black as ink.

Qi Zui gripped the steering wheel with one hand, his eyes scanning the vehicles and road conditions in front and behind him. With the other hand, he quickly opened the glove box, broke off the SIM card from his phone and threw it out, then deftly replaced it with another SIM card.

If the police are indeed tracking him, then his original phone should already be under surveillance by now.

The police will find him sooner or later; he must find Wen Xubai before that happens.

Qi Zui's fingers tightened around the steering wheel, and he glanced at the rearview mirror without thinking, then suddenly stopped looking.

A black Jeep X was following closely behind, separated by several vehicles.

It wasn't that Qi Zui lacked vigilance; rather, the people in the car were highly adept at counter-surveillance. They weren't driving a well-known brand, and they deliberately kept a distance from him, which is why Qi Zui didn't notice.

After hesitating for a moment, he suddenly jerked the steering wheel, unexpectedly veer onto another road!

The person in the car was startled and tried to change lanes as well, but several cars in front blocked his way, so he couldn't get through. He could only angrily slap the steering wheel and then say regretfully into the walkie-talkie in his collar, "Director Zheng, Director Zheng! The target suddenly changed lanes, I... I lost him!"

"Useless trash!" came a furious roar from the other end of the phone.

Qi Zui watched the car receding into the distance without showing any emotion, his calm heart devoid of any joy.

The fact that the police wouldn't send just one car to chase him means that someone must already be watching him.

Tsk. Qi Zui suddenly felt a little irritated.

The location marker on the car screen was moving slowly. Qi Zui had already pushed the accelerator to the limit. He had to keep an eye on the location, pay attention to the traffic flow, and also observe whether anyone was following him. He was so focused on his surroundings that he wished he could have eight pairs of eyes.

Ruan Xing also sent people to search, but so far there hasn't been a single piece of news about Wen Xubai. Qi Zui's forehead was already covered in a fine layer of cold sweat, and a familiar feeling of suffocation surged into his heart, making his heart almost stop.

In that instant of distraction, Qi Zui nearly sped up and crashed into a car in front of him. After realizing what had happened, he quickly swerved the steering wheel and narrowly missed the car, leaving a trail of bright sparks in his wake!

"Holy shit!" The driver of the other car leaned out, raised his arm angrily, and cursed, "Don't you have eyes? Can't you drive?! Hey! Stop right there! Hey!!!"

A bead of cold sweat slid down his back, but Qi Zui was too preoccupied to look back. Even though he felt sorry, life was at stake, so he could only glance at the car's license plate and think that if there was another chance, he would find time to apologize to the other party.

But what if there's no chance...?

Qi Zui bit his lip hard, and the metallic taste instantly spread in his mouth. The stinging sensation pulled him back to his senses. Qi Zui forced himself to calm down, his eyes gradually sharpening, and he drove forward without hesitation.

Just then, the location displayed on the screen suddenly stopped and then flickered wildly.

Qi Zui: "?"

The next second, the location completely disappeared, leaving only an empty road map and a huge line of red text: Warning: No signal found!

"Damn it!" Qi slammed his hand on the steering wheel, which triggered a loud horn blare, and his heart sank to the bottom!

His hands on the steering wheel began to tremble again. Qi Zui shook his head hard, forcing himself not to think about bad speculations, but the thoughts in his mind were like a flood of wild beasts, completely out of control. The scene of Wen Xubai lying in an empty, deserted place, covered in blood and cold, kept echoing in his mind, making it hard for him to breathe.

Qi Zui irritably loosened his tie. He had already driven off the highway. On the map, his location was getting closer and closer to where the signal disappeared. Unable to control his bad thoughts, Qi Zui simply told himself not to think about anything and just drove straight to the end. Then he suddenly stopped the car in front of a deep sea.

Looking at the boundless ocean, Qi Zui felt an unprecedented sense of unease.

Here... there was no one around, only the calm sea, bathed in the glow of the setting sun, shimmering with a beautiful, shimmering light, rippling gently in the breeze...

"No..." Qi yanked open the car door.
