Chapter 7 The Power of Money

Upon hearing Han Mengyao's question, Ji Qian was startled and instinctively denied it, saying, "Sister Meng, what are you saying? Feudal superstition is unacceptable!"

Han Mengyao ignored Ji Qian's explanation and continued to explain the basis of her speculation: "I noticed this when we worked together before. You would always stare at certain places on set, and sometimes you would even run a long way just to avoid an open space."

You probably don't know this, but I also have a bit of a paranormal constitution. I've tried going to the places you avoid, and even though it's summer, I feel a chill all over my body as soon as I pass by. I felt that same way when I went into the house to pull you out just now. Is there a ghost in that house?

Han Mengyao's reasoning was logical, well-founded, and even verified. Ji Qian was at a loss for words and opened her mouth but couldn't say anything.

Seeing that Ji Qian wasn't going to speak, Han Mengyao continued, "Xu Qi probably can't see, but he knows you can, so he actually fainted from fright this afternoon? Speaking of which, you used to take detours to avoid them, and you didn't dare to come out of the house just now... You can clearly see, yet you're afraid of ghosts?!" The usually composed Han Mengyao suddenly became agitated at the end, and Ji Qian felt as if her personality had been insulted: "Being able to see doesn't stop me from being afraid of ghosts!"

"Ha! You admit it!" Han Mengyao looked proud that she had been caught. Only then did Ji Qian realize that she had been tricked and regretted it so much that she wanted to disappear on the spot.

Seeing Ji Qian's deeply distressed state, Han Mengyao didn't forget to comfort her: "Don't be like this, I didn't mean it. I really think it's incredible that you can see ghosts and still be afraid of them. Logically speaking, shouldn't you be used to it by now?" "Don't talk..." Han Mengyao's words only made Ji Qian feel more sad.

Although Han Mengyao felt she hadn't done anything wrong, she felt inexplicably guilty seeing Ji Qian like this, so she squatted down and said to Ji Qian, "Um, I'm not very afraid of ghosts, how about we switch rooms?" Ji Qian had seen Han Mengyao's room before, and although it didn't have a bed, it was much better than her old room.

However, it was really unethical to ask someone to stay in a haunted house for you. Although Ji Qian was very tempted by Han Mengyao's suggestion to switch rooms, she still reluctantly refused: "It's okay, didn't the director say there are tents in the backyard? I can stay there."

Hearing Ji Qian mention the backyard, Han Mengyao's expression suddenly turned strange: "You haven't been to the backyard yet, have you?" Hearing Han Mengyao's question, Ji Qian shook her head. She had been fighting with the ornaments all afternoon and had no time to go to the backyard.

Seeing Ji Qian's denial, Han Mengyao said with an "I knew it!" look, "I went there this afternoon, and the backyard was especially cold!" Afraid that Ji Qian wouldn't take it seriously, Han Mengyao added, "I mean, every corner of the backyard was very cold!"

Seeing Han Mengyao's solemn expression, Ji Qian felt her hair stand on end. Combining this with what Han Mengyao had just said, didn't this mean that there were ghosts in every corner of the backyard?!

"I want to quit!" With that, Ji Qian was about to rush towards the production team's room when Han Mengyao grabbed her arm. "Wait, wait!! Don't be impulsive! Do you know how much the penalty for breach of contract is for this show?!"

When the topic of breach of contract came up, Ji Qian's mind, which had been clouded by fear, cleared up briefly. These things were usually handled by Liu Xia. Although Sister Xia had sent her an electronic version of the contract before, she hadn't read it carefully because she was too lazy. At this moment, she suddenly felt a deep regret for her past laziness.

How many?

Looking into Ji Qian's clear, almost foolish eyes, Han Mengyao affectionately patted Ji Qian's head and lightly gave the answer in a tone as if coaxing a child: "Sixty million."

Those three simple words had an effect a hundred times more terrifying than a ghost. Ji Qian felt her voice trembling: "Shouldn't it be ten times the penalty for breach of contract? I'm not even worth 500,000 per episode..."

Han Mengyao's gaze toward Ji Qian grew increasingly kind. "This program is heavily promoted by Tomato TV. Because the recording time is long and the risks are high, the price is already higher than that of ordinary programs. In addition, there have been too many scandals involving celebrities recently. In order to prevent celebrities from having scandals before the broadcast and causing all the initial investment to go down the drain, they simply raised the appearance fees of all celebrities."

Ji Qian, who had just been too weak to stand, suddenly felt full of energy upon hearing this: "So, as long as I finish recording this show, I can get six million?"

The speed of her change of expression left Han Mengyao somewhat stunned: "You...you're not terminating the contract?"

Ji Qian grabbed a wooden stick from somewhere, swung it a few times in the air, then turned to Han Mengyao and said righteously, "What are you saying! This show is so hard to make, so many staff members work day and night for it, how can I quit so capriciously because of a little 'difficulty'?!"

"Do we need to change rooms?"

"Change!"
