Chapter 95 The Dim Corridor

God knows, Ji Qian actually regretted it the moment she closed the door.

Ji Qian thought it was probably because she hadn't adjusted to the time difference yet, and her adrenaline had surged to her head, which was why she did something so foolish. Sure enough, staying up late is bad for your health!

Ji Qian wasn't someone who cared about saving face or risking her life. She originally intended to pretend nothing had happened and return the way she came, but Han Mengyao, who was following closely behind, blocked her way back.

For some reason, Han Mengyao always became incredibly strong whenever she encountered something like this. After Ji Qian tried to struggle to no avail, she had no choice but to resign herself to following Han Mengyao forward.

Compared to Ji Qian, who was feigning composure, Han Mengyao was extremely excited. Noticing that Ji Qian was trembling slightly, she took her arm and comforted her:

"It's alright, Qianqian. Wait a moment, I'll be up ahead. If anything happens, then you can step in." With that, Han Mengyao pulled Ji Qian behind her.

Although Han Mengyao is only 160cm tall, she appears incredibly tall in Ji Qian's eyes at this moment.

The loud noise came from the other side of the corridor. Perhaps to save on production costs, the main lights on that side of the corridor were not on, and only a few dim wall lamps provided some illumination.

The dim light reflected in Ji Qian's eyes reminded her of countless classic Western horror movies, and she trembled even more violently.

Han Mengyao was also trembling a little at this moment, but she was excited. Compared to the dark and eerie Chinese horror, she actually preferred the bloody and exciting Western style.

The two of them walked forward, trembling. They were not moving very fast, thanks to Ji Qian who was desperately trying to slow them down from behind.

Unfortunately, the corridor wasn't very long. Even though Ji Qian tried her best to slow down, they still ended up at the corner of the corridor.

Perhaps due to the earlier explosion, the voltage of the wall lamps here is unstable, flickering and looking particularly eerie.

Ji Qian was extremely nervous, but she didn't dare to pull Han Mengyao's hand too hard, so she could only clench the vase in her other hand.

The metal vase's joints had begun to twist and deform, but Ji Qian had no time to pay attention to it; her entire focus was on the dark, indistinct shadow at the corner.

Han Mengyao was already halfway into the shadows. She peeked out and looked down the corridor, but all she saw was darkness.

"The lights over there seem to have been damaged in the explosion," Han Mengyao reported to Ji Qian, her voice filled with disappointment.

Upon hearing this, Ji Qian felt as if she had been granted a pardon, and she seized the opportunity to suggest:

“Let’s go back and get the flashlights, and call the others over too.” As she spoke, Ji Qian tried to pull Han Mengyao back, but the other woman grabbed her hand and said, “Wait, I have an idea!” Han Mengyao released Ji Qian’s hand and went to the wall to try to reach the wall lamp, but unfortunately, she failed due to her height.

Seeing Han Mengyao's strained outstretched hand, Ji Qian felt a pang of pity rise in her heart:

"Um, Sister Meng, how about we let..."

"Will you help me?!" Han Mengyao seemed to have been waiting for Ji Qian to say this. She turned around, her large eyes filled with hopeful light.

Looking into those big, watery eyes, Ji Qian gritted her teeth and said the second half of the sentence she had prepared: "How about we ask Xu Qi to help you? He's very tall."

Hearing this, Han Mengyao wanted to try again, but then she saw that Ji Qian had already jumped three meters away, holding a strip of cloth that she didn't know where she had gotten it from.

The strip of cloth was made up of seven or eight scraps of cloth. Han Mengyao looked over and found that the other end had been tied around her waist at some point.

This must be a safety measure that Ji Qian prepared for her.

Seeing Ji Qian's terrified yet still tightly gripping the rope, Han Mengyao's heart softened. She took a few steps forward and took Ji Qian's hand:

“Indeed, let Xu Qi do this dangerous job.”

[Waaaaah, Mom, I've found the real deal!]

Girls are truly the most beautiful creatures in the world!

[Isn't this incredibly sweet?! I never expected to see such a heartwarming scene of mutual affection in real life!]

[I hereby declare that the Dream Mother's Three Shallow Locks are locked! I have already swallowed and digested the key!!]

[Who understands this? Watching a variety show late at night and getting completely absorbed in it!]

[Xu Qi: Please don't call me out at times like this, thank you]

Ji Qian felt like she had been gone for a long time, but when she returned to the banquet hall, she found that everyone was still the same as when she left.

Seeing Ji Qian and the other person return safely, the assistant director finally breathed a sigh of relief. He strode forward, using his strong physique to push aside Mi Yesi and the others who came to express their concern.

"Teacher Ji, is everything alright outside?" Despite her words, Ji Qian clearly saw the answer the assistant director was hoping for in his eyes.

Now that she was back in the light, Ji Qian felt like she had come back to life. She looked up and felt the light shining on her face. She was a little dazed for a moment and said unconsciously, "It's nothing serious, just that one of the corridors exploded."

"Huh?! Which corridor exploded?"

Before the assistant director could react, the assistant director in charge of negotiating with the British side couldn't sit still any longer:

"How large was the explosion? How serious was it? How much of the wall was damaged? Was there a fire? What happened to the windows, curtains, and decorative murals in the corridor?!"

Seeing that the situation was about to get out of control, Han Mengyao quickly put her arm around the assistant director's shoulder:

"There was no explosion, only the lights in that corridor were blown out. Qianqian was so frightened that she accidentally let slip a word."

Han Mengyao patted the assistant director's back with one hand to comfort him, and with the other hand she quietly pushed the troublemaker Ji Qian aside.

Upon learning that the castle was still intact, the assistant director finally calmed down. Before returning to the production team, she didn't forget to remind the assistant director:

"This castle was specially approved by the British government for filming. If something goes wrong, I won't be able to explain it to Mr. Zhou!"

Mr. Zhou is the current head of the Chinese Embassy in the UK and one of the main diplomatic personnel in charge of this filming.

Without his intervention, given the current chaotic situation in Britain, this filming would never have been possible.

Faced with the assistant director's sudden and unusually assertive demeanor, the assistant director nodded repeatedly in agreement, but a hint of doubt still arose in his heart:

I never saw Director Liu act this subservient when he was directing before. Although he was tormented by Ji Qian quite a bit, he at least had a lot of authority among insiders! How come he's acting so differently when it comes to me?

The assistant director was frustrated, but dared not say anything. He had to bite the bullet and step forward to take charge: "Well, how about we postpone it today..."

Before the assistant director could finish speaking, Han Mengyao stood up and loudly objected, though her reasons were quite reasonable:

"This castle is special after all. If this incident isn't investigated thoroughly, what if something takes advantage of the situation and sneaks in while everyone is asleep?"
