Li Huai found it amusing to see his wife excitedly talking about what she wanted to buy.
But as soon as he finished laughing, he remembered what happened last night, and his expression suddenly turned serious.
"Qinglan, do you remember what you said when you were drunk last night?"
Zhao Qinglan was stunned. Could it be that she said something strange? Her heart immediately jumped.
"Did I...did I say anything?" she asked, feigning confusion.
"Sigh, Qinglan, although I don't know who told you that the college entrance examination will be reinstated, you can't say such things easily outside in the future. If someone with ulterior motives hears it, it will be troublesome."
My God, did I even say that in front of Li Huai?
Zhao Qinglan was secretly annoyed and immediately said, "I will never drink again. Don't worry, I was just talking nonsense. I will never mention it again."
Seeing her like this, Li Huai finally felt relieved.
"Where did you hear this news from?" Li Huai asked curiously.
How could she possibly explain this to herself? Zhao Qinglan could only try to make things up.
"I haven't heard anyone say that, I'm just thinking about it myself. You see, the country is in dire need of rebuilding, what industry doesn't need talent? College students are all talented people. I just think that the country will definitely reinstate the college entrance examination."
“You’re right,” Li Huai agreed wholeheartedly.
The only question is when the college entrance examination will be reinstated. It might be just one or two years, or maybe five or six years, or even ten years.
That's what they think, but who knows how things will change in the future?
Of course, he also hopes that the college entrance examination will be reinstated as soon as possible.
Seeing that her husband didn't press the matter further, Zhao Qinglan immediately said that she was sleepy and needed to take a nap.
I was excitedly planning what to buy, but now I just lie down and close my eyes.
Fortunately, Li Huai didn't think too much about it. He just thought to himself that his wife's sensitivity and analytical skills were quite strong, even stronger than his own.
If Zhao Qinglan knew what he was thinking, she would definitely be both amused and exasperated.
She's not particularly skilled in that area; she's just somewhat "prophetic."
Li Huai wanted to go to the capital, so he naturally had to come up with a good reason to ask for leave.
He had already taken many days off because of his meeting with Qinglan and his remarriage, so he felt quite embarrassed to ask for more leave.
However, there was indeed something he wanted to do during his trip to Beijing.
Just before the end of the workday in the afternoon, Li Huai arrived at the regimental commander's office.
As soon as he knocked on the door, Sun Shengli looked over from inside.
"Li Huai, come in and sit down. Let me finish reading this." He waved the document in his hand.
A few minutes later, Sun Shengli came over and sat down on the sofa.
"What's going on?"
"Commander, I'd like to ask for a few days' leave to go back to Beijing. Is that alright?" After all, the officers in the regiment also have their own duty hours.
If he takes leave, someone else will have to cover his shift.
"Back to the capital?" Sun Shengli was somewhat surprised, after all, he knew how strained things were between Li Huai and his biological father, Li Zhenhua.
Li Huai smiled wryly. "Commander, it's not that I'm going back to that home. I'm thinking that I haven't visited my mother's grave in years. This time, I want to bring the children and Qinglan to pay our respects to my mother as well."
Because of Li Zhenhua and Yu Huimin, he rarely returned to Beijing. His two children, Da Wa and Er Wa, had never been to their grandmother's grave since they were born.
Li Huai felt it was time to introduce his family and mother to each other.
So that's why. Thinking of Li Huai's wicked stepmother, Sun Shengli felt a little sorry for him.
If Li Huai's biological mother were still alive, how could someone with such a good family background have ended up like this?
Although Li Huai took many days off because of his affair with Zhao Qinglan, he had hardly ever taken leave in previous years.
Because he doesn't go back to his hometown for the Chinese New Year, he often takes the shifts for officers who are going home. Now that he has something important to do and wants to go back, Sun Shengli nodded without much hesitation.
"I can approve your leave, but you need to ask for a few days, and we need to figure out who will cover your shifts while you're away."
"Commander, thank you," Li Huai said happily.
Since the regimental commander is willing to grant him leave, he can simply cover shifts for others for the next few days.
Aside from Yang Qingmin, Li Huai had a good relationship with the other cadres in the regiment.
When he went to discuss shift changes, everyone he asked agreed.
Actually, it would have been best for Li Huai to ask Yang Qingmin to switch shifts, but he didn't like Yang Qingmin and preferred to go through the trouble of finding two more people to switch shifts rather than asking Yang Qingmin.
Because of discussing the shift change, Li Huai got home late.
However, when Zhao Qinglan learned that he had been granted leave and that his family would be able to travel to the capital soon, she was still happy.
Since we're going to Beijing, we need to buy tickets in advance. The closer it gets to the Lunar New Year, the harder it is to buy train tickets, especially for big cities like Shanghai.
Because she was traveling with three children and thought the train would be crowded, Zhao Qinglan decided to buy all sleeper berths.
If you want to buy a sleeper berth, it's not enough for her to just go and queue up.
So they waited until their day off to go into the city.
After dropping the three children off at a snack shop and letting them stay in the room where the Sun family was resting, the couple hurried off to the train station to queue for tickets.
The train station was packed with people; there were crowds everywhere, both at the ticket counters and in the waiting room.
Li Huai didn't want his wife to suffer, so he told her to find a place to wait while he went to queue up to buy tickets.
Zhao Qinglan didn't try to be strong, but she didn't go far either. She stood next to her husband and chatted with him casually.
That way, the waiting time won't feel so tedious.
The line moved slowly, and just as it was about to be Li Huai's turn, the person in front of him who was buying a ticket suddenly burst into tears.
