"Li Zhenhua, how cruel you are."
The affectionate nicknames used to be used for Yu Huimin are no longer used.
Li Zhenhua, sitting on the other side, was dumbfounded.
“Huimin, how can you say that? Do you know how big a mistake you made? If I hadn’t pleaded with the commander, you would have spent even longer in prison.”
"With your high-ranking position, can't you just get me out of here?" she asked, looking at him with hopeful eyes.
“Huimin, how could you think that way? Even if I were in my current position, it doesn’t mean we can do whatever we want. This position was given to me by the people, and I bear the same responsibility.”
Yu Huimin sneered, "Responsibility?"
Seeing her reaction, Li Zhenhua frowned and said, "Huimin, don't you know the saying, 'Even the emperor is subject to the same laws as commoners'?"
Why hasn't his wife realized her mistake even now? He felt extremely disappointed.
"All I know is that I'm doing this for our family," she declared shamelessly.
For their home?
Li Zhenhua thought of the things he had found.
When he opened his eyes again, he said disappointedly, "I've handed over all your jewelry and savings book. You can reform yourself in there. Xiaowei and I will wait for you to come out."
What? All the things she'd painstakingly saved up over the years are gone just like that?
Yu Huimin's expression instantly turned ferocious.
"Those are all mine, all mine! Why are you handing them over? Did you even ask for my permission?"
At that moment, she forgot all about her sentence.
Li Zhenhua had thought that this visit to his wife would give them a chance to have a heart-to-heart talk.
But to my surprise, this is how it turned out.
He then realized that his wife had become someone he didn't recognize.
Looking back on all the little things they've shared over the years, he even began to doubt which side of her was the real one.
This meeting was a huge blow to Li Zhenhua.
His position as deputy chief of staff was not immediately affected because he was unaware of the situation.
But Li Zhenhua knew that this matter would ultimately have an impact on him.
From now on, he will only remain in his current position and will never be promoted again.
Does he regret it?
Of course he regretted it. He had changed his relationship with his eldest son for the sake of his wife and youngest son, but in the end, he had ended up living such a miserable life.
He's probably the laughingstock of the entire compound now.
When he got home, Li Zhenhua made a decision: he withdrew his youngest son from school.
He knew that his youngest son was just wasting his time at school and hadn't learned anything useful.
What's the point of continuing to attend university then?
His son is still young and there's still a chance to save him; he doesn't want his son to be ruined like that in the future.
He then sent his son to the army to be trained and reformed.
Li Wei naturally didn't want the troops to suffer, but he couldn't go against his father's decision.
Since Yu Huimin was imprisoned, and even went to a military court, Li Wei would definitely not be able to pass the political review if he wanted to join the army through legitimate channels.
However, Li Zhenhua didn't ask for much; he only hoped that his son would become a low-ranking soldier.
He is, after all, a deputy chief of staff of a military region; he can certainly handle this matter.
With no hope for his career, he could only try his best in these areas.
He also hopes that his wife can start a new life after she comes out of prison after two years.
It must be said that Li Zhenhua's various expectations are both beautiful and realistic, but whether they will ultimately develop in the direction he hopes for is unknown.
After buying all the necessary items, Li Huai and his group had a good meal with Old Master Dou before setting off from Beijing.
Zhang Yu drove them there.
Because he didn't want people to associate him with Yu Huimin, Li Huai only saw Zhang Yu and Commander Liao after returning home this time; he didn't see any other acquaintances in Beijing.
Even though they sent many things, they still had two extra bags on their return trip.
Fortunately, Zhang Yu put them directly on the train.
By this time, there were only a few days left until the Chinese New Year, and the Beijing train station was packed to the brim.
By the time they got on the bus, they were all sweating profusely despite the cold weather.
Zhang Yu helped them put their things away, said a few words of farewell, and then quickly got off the bus.
As the train started moving and she looked at the scenery passing by outside the window, Zhao Qinglan reflected on her trip to Beijing over the past few days.
Return train tickets were also hard to buy. If Zhang Yu hadn't helped them find connections, they might not have been able to get home smoothly.
The small courtyard in Beijing is still being looked after by Old Master Dou.
To be honest, Li Huai and Zhao Qinglan were both a little disappointed that they couldn't spend the New Year with the old man.
Both of them genuinely regarded the old man as their own elder.
Fortunately, Grandpa Dou has a good attitude. He said that he has gotten used to being alone all these years, and besides, he still has his neighbors, so he is not lonely.
The children have had a great time during their stay in Beijing.
After all, they visited the zoo and ate delicious food in Beijing. When they get back, they'll have something to brag about to their friends.
The journey home was smooth sailing.
When they finally arrived at the station, Li Huai's orderly was waiting for them.
Li Huai had called to inform them before they left the capital.
It wasn't that he wanted to cause trouble, but it was really difficult for his large family and so many belongings to return home to their family compound.
The jeep was crammed full of people and belongings.
Thinking that her mother and sister didn't know they were back, Zhao Qinglan suggested making a detour to the snack shop.
