Chapter 179 Starting a New Career

Li Huai celebrated his birthday at the beginning of the first lunar month.

Zhao Qinglan didn't forget his birthday this time. She not only made him a birthday cake to celebrate, but also gave him a carefully prepared birthday gift.

Since his mother passed away, Li Huai has never properly celebrated his birthday.

I was almost moved to tears by the way I was being treated with such respect.

He found that ever since he met his wife Zhao Qinglan, he sometimes became very sentimental.

After seeing Wei Hong and Sun Wen off, Da Wa and Xiao Duo also started school.

When Da Wa and the others returned on their first day of school, Da Wa informed Zhao Qinglan of some news.

"Mom, Principal Wei said he would like to ask you to go to the school to see him tomorrow."

"Your Principal Wei is looking for me? Why?" Zhao Qinglan asked, looking puzzled.

The older child scratched his head. "I don't know either."

Looking at her eldest child and then at her daughter, Zhao Qinglan asked in confusion, "Did you two get into some trouble?"

Da Wa and Xiao Duo quickly shook their heads.

If you didn't cause trouble, then why are you looking for her?

Zhao Qinglan also discussed this issue with her husband.

"You won't figure it out even if you try all night. You'll find out when you see Principal Wei tomorrow." Li Huai really didn't want to waste this precious time discussing such a thing.

Seeing that his wife had finally calmed down, he immediately pinned her down.

The next day, after breakfast, Zhao Qinglan asked Sister Wu Mei to look after the three children for a while, and then walked with her son and daughter to the military primary school.

The children in the residential area all walk to school by themselves, without their parents taking them. So when they see Zhao Qinglan following behind Da Wa and Xiao Duo, many of the children are envious.

Da Wa and Xiao Duo were also very happy and proud.

Once they arrived at school and saw that Da Wa and Xiao Duo had gone into their classrooms, Zhao Qinglan headed to the principal's office.

Principal Wei is a very diligent person. Although he doesn't teach classes, he's already in his office.

It was still a bit cold outside, and the office door was closed. Zhao Qinglan knocked, and immediately heard a response from inside.

Upon seeing her enter, Principal Wei immediately stood up with a smile.

"Comrade Qinglan has arrived, please have a seat."

After saying that, he picked up a tea mug and went to the thermos to pour water.

Only after placing the teacup in front of Zhao Qinglan did he sit down under the opposite table.

"Principal Wei, why did you call me here?"

"Comrade Qinglan, would you like to be a teacher?"

"Me?" Zhao Qinglan pointed at herself in disbelief.

"Yes, it's you."

"Me? How could I? I've never been to school." The teachers at the military primary school were at least high school or vocational school graduates; she didn't even have a primary school diploma.

Principal Wei laughed.

"Although you never went to school, you were able to get into university, which already puts you ahead of countless others."

Indeed, Zhao Qinglan is proud of this.

However, she still had doubts about whether she should become a teacher.

The main problem is that she was completely unprepared.

Seeing that she didn't speak, Principal Wei said again, "If you have any concerns, you can speak them out."

“Principal Wei, I appreciate your appreciation, but I have never thought about becoming a teacher. Also, my fourth child is still young and needs me.”

“Indeed, your situation is rather special, but what you’ve mentioned isn’t a big problem. If you haven’t thought about it, you can start thinking about it now. I see that you’ve taught Li Yansen and Li Xiaoduo quite well.”

"And about your fourth child being so young, we've had teachers here who came to class right after giving birth and whose babies weren't very big. You can ask someone else to help take care of the child; any teacher in the office who isn't teaching can help you."

Seeing Principal Wei's sincere attitude, Zhao Qinglan couldn't very well refuse outright.

However, she still raised one last question.

"But I don't have any diploma or degree. Am I really qualified to be a teacher?"

"You're capable of recruiting talent without being bound by convention, Comrade Qinglan. This is a special case for you, and I will explain it to the district."

"Could you allow me a few more days to think about it?"

"Of course you can. This is no small matter. You should go back and have a good talk with your family."

Zhao Qinglan then returned somewhat absentmindedly.

Wu Mei was also curious about why Principal Wei wanted to see her, so she asked him as soon as she went to pick up Sanwa.

"Principal Wei asked me if I would like to be a teacher at the military primary school."

"That's a good thing," Wu Mei said with a smile.

“Sister-in-law, I’ve never taught a student before, so I’m not sure what to do. And there’s Sanwa, he’s so tiny.”

“You taught your eldest child at home quite well, didn’t you? You’ve taught students before, haven’t you, Erwa?” Wu Mei looked at the little one beside her.

"Mom, you're amazing!" Erwa immediately praised.

"As for Sanwa, why don't you leave him with me while you're in class, and I'll keep an eye on him for you?"

"Sister-in-law, this is too much trouble for you."

"It's no trouble at all. My third child is so well-behaved; I get bored at home all by myself."

With Wu Mei's support, Zhao Qinglan began to waver.

When her husband came home from get off work, she told him about it.

"Qinglan, you can go if you want, or stay home if you don't want to. I support you either way."

In his view, his wife's opinion was the most important.

He already felt very sorry for her because she got into university but couldn't attend. If she wanted to work as a teacher nearby, he felt he would have no objection at all.

She didn't have much ambition, but being a teacher at the military primary school was indeed somewhat appealing to her.

Regardless of how much money it makes, it's at least a legitimate job, and most importantly, it's close to home so I can take care of my children.

Most importantly, it's the recognition and significance this job represents for her.
