Chapter 209 Hidden Crisis

It's Lunar New Year's Eve again.

At Zhao Qinglan's family's New Year's Eve dinner table, there was one more person than usual: her new son-in-law, Zhou Jingsheng.

In previous years, Zhou Jingsheng would either be on duty in the military camp or be called to his uncle Zhou Hai's house during the Spring Festival.

Although Zhou Hai's family treated him well, Zhou Jingsheng still felt a bit awkward spending the New Year there.

But things are different now. Ever since he got married, he's been eating here all the time. His wife's family treats him very well, and he feels very comfortable having New Year's Eve dinner with them.

Because the room next door was spacious, after Zhao Qingju came to the family quarters, she no longer lived at her eldest sister Zhao Qinglan's house, but lived next door with her mother, and the two of them shared a room.

With a new son-in-law, this year's New Year's Eve dinner was even more lavish than the previous two years.

Both adults and children were very happy.

This year, Sanwa finally didn't just crave food during the Lunar New Year; he was also able to eat some of the dishes on the table.

After dinner, everyone went to the yard to set off fireworks.

Uncle Zhou Jingsheng is now very popular with the children. Li Huai doesn't talk much in daily life, but he can be quite serious at times.

Zhou Jingsheng, on the other hand, was more easygoing. As they watched the fireworks, Erwa sat on his shoulders.

Upon learning that his wife was pregnant, he grew even more fond of children.

Seeing her husband's expression, Zhao Qingzhu touched her still-flat stomach and smiled gently. Her husband would definitely be a good father in the future.

In Beijing, Li Zhenhua and his family of three also enjoyed their New Year's Eve dinner.

While they were eating, Yu Huimin suddenly spoke up.

"Li Huai, aren't you coming back for the New Year?" she asked tentatively.

Because she and her son were in prison and the military respectively, neither of them really knew what the current father-son relationship between Li Huai and Zhenhua was like.

When she asked about her eldest son, Li Zhenhua paused for a moment. "Don't worry about him, let's eat."

Seeing that her husband avoided the topic, Yu Huimin couldn't figure out what was going on and became increasingly worried.

However, she didn't dare to ask any more questions and had to stop there.

After all, her most important task now is to solidify her position at home and her marital relationship with her husband.

Although he was reluctant to talk about it, Yu Huimin's words still made Li Zhenhua feel down.

His eldest son was determined not to associate with him anymore. He couldn't even see his grandsons. Judging by the days, his youngest grandson should be able to walk and call out to people by now.

Although his wife seemed much calmer now, he was reluctant to talk to her about their eldest son because he remembered what she had done in the past.

Since they dislike each other, there's no point in forcing them to be on good terms. He was too naive before.

This year, thanks to the conference on reform and opening up, there was more joy and laughter than in previous years.

Everyone has beautiful dreams and hopes for the future.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, people still visit relatives and friends to offer New Year's greetings and entertain guests.

Zhao Qinglan and her classmates, who were in the second and third years of junior high school, didn't have many relatives, so they just had a lively meal together as family.

Zhao Qingju was always asked about or enthusiastically introduced to potential partners, which made her blush countless times.

After her second daughter got married, Madam Sun did start worrying about her youngest daughter's marriage, but she wasn't in a rush.

Now only her youngest daughter is left at home, and she wants to keep her here for another year or two. Besides, finding a suitable partner takes time and can't be rushed.

For example, their son-in-law, Jingsheng, was handpicked by them.

Marriage is a major life event and should not be taken lightly.

This enthusiasm startled Zhao Qingju so much that she hurriedly returned to the city before even opening her shop.

Because the military primary school wouldn't start until after the Lantern Festival, Mrs. Sun was worried about her youngest daughter going back to live alone, so she went to the city with her.

Upon their return, they received a package.

Upon seeing the address that had been sent, Mr. Sun fell silent.

Her daughters kept it a secret from her, but she already knew that their father had come.

After Zhao Qingzhu got married, Zhao Qingju returned to the city and found the money notes her father had hidden under his pillow. Although it wasn't much, it was all that Zhao Laoda (Zhao Qingzhu's eldest son) could afford.

Zhao Qingju called Zhao Qinglan. While Zhao Qinglan was talking to her sister, she didn't notice that her mother, who had gone next door to deliver something to her sister, had just returned.

Since her daughters didn't say anything, Madam Sun pretended not to know.

Now, seeing these local specialties sent from the countryside, she knows whose heart it is.

Zhao Qingju was still on tenterhooks, afraid that her mother would ask something. Seeing that her mother didn't say anything and just took the things inside, she was still a little confused.

When she called her older sister to reveal the truth, Zhao Qinglan quickly guessed the truth.

"If Mom doesn't say anything, just pretend you don't know anything."

Belated affection is worthless as grass. Why didn't you do it earlier? Although Zhao Qinglan felt that her father, Zhao Laoda, was a bit pitiful now, she would not sympathize with him. She would just consider it as him atoning for the mistakes he had made in the past.

Because of Zhao Laoda's sudden arrival, Zhao Qinglan later contacted the village secretary of Zhao Family Village to inquire about it.

The village secretary apologized repeatedly, but he spoke highly of Zhao Laoda and also informed Zhao Qinglan about the Zhao family's situation.

Zhao Qinglan never expected that the third branch of the Zhao family would fall apart, but she only felt ironic when she found out.

Without a common enemy or anyone to exploit, and with the conflict between the various households intensified because of her, it turns out that the family was nothing special after all.

Presumably, her selfish grandmother wouldn't be happy if she couldn't keep her whole family in check as a feudal lord.

Old Mrs. Zhao was more than just unhappy.

She broke her eldest son's heart and kicked him out of the house, even though he was the most obedient to her.

Because of her youngest son, she lived with her second son, but even while living with her second son, she still missed her youngest son.
