The prison guard removed the handcuffs and stood aside.
Zheng Jun sat down opposite Li Huai.
"Who exactly are you?" he asked as soon as he sat down.
"Answer me one question first, and then I'll tell you who I am," Li Huai said calmly.
“Okay, go ahead.” Zheng Jun answered after only a moment’s thought.
"Do you know the real reason you came in?" Li Huai asked.
Zheng Jun tensed up immediately, glanced at the prison guard not far away, and whispered, "Who exactly are you? Did Yu Huimin send you?"
Since he is said to be an old friend of Yu Huimin, he must know Yu Huimin.
In just a few words, the two had already begun to probe each other.
"She didn't send me, but we don't get along."
Hearing this, Zheng Jun's tension lessened somewhat.
He was afraid that the visitor might have ill intentions.
If that damned woman Yu Huimin tries to get back at him, and he's trapped in prison with no one he can rely on or connections to, he'll probably just have to wait to die.
However, he didn't immediately believe Li Huai's words.
"You think your relationship is bad just because you say so? Why should I believe you? And why did you want to see me?"
Li Huai smiled. He could tell that although Zheng Jun had been keeping it hidden, he was definitely hostile towards Yu Huimin.
In that case, he can finally speak his mind.
"Although I don't want to admit it, Yu Huimin is my stepmother. Because of her, my mother's death was not pleasant, and my life afterward was also very unpleasant. So, she can be considered my enemy."
If he wanted to get anything useful out of Zheng Jun, he had to show some sincerity.
Sure enough, after hearing his story, Zheng Jun found him more agreeable.
His cellmate did find out some information about Yu Huimin's current situation, including that her husband is a high-ranking military leader and that they have a son.
However, the fellow inmate's abilities were limited, and he could only find out these superficial things. He did not know that Yu Huimin was his stepmother who had remarried later.
However, Zheng Jun still had some doubts and asked, "How can I know that what you're saying is true?"
Li Huai smiled. "It's no secret that my father remarried. My relationship with him and my good stepmother has been bad for many years, and everyone around me knows that. It would be easy to find out."
Hearing this, Zheng Jun finally believed him to some extent.
"So, what brings you here this time?"
"Judging from your expression, you probably know why you were locked up here, right?" Li Huai finally got to the point.
Zheng Jun sneered. "I didn't know before, but I do now."
"How much do you know? Do you need me to add anything?" Li Huai asked "kindly."
"I know she bribed someone to frame me." Zheng Jun gritted his teeth as he mentioned this.
"Then it seems I have nothing to say." Li Huai shrugged.
"What exactly is your purpose in coming to see me?" Zheng Jun asked again.
"Since you know that Yu Huimin got you into this mess, do you know why she wanted to get you in? Did you have a grudge against her before? Or what?" Now that he was sure Zheng Jun also held a grudge against Yu Huimin, he could finally lay it all out.
"Ha, how would I know why that crazy woman wanted to harm me?" Zheng Jun said with a mocking tone.
"Do you really have absolutely no clue?" Li Huai frowned. "Or are you just unwilling to tell me?"
"Even if I have a clue, why should I tell you?" Zheng Jun retorted.
"What if I can help you overturn your conviction and regain your freedom?" Li Huai offered his terms.
Before he came, he had thought about how to make Zheng Jun willing to cooperate, and this was the best exchange he could think of.
Zheng Jun leaned forward abruptly, excitedly asking, "Are you sure you can help me?"
"I'm sure, as long as you're willing to cooperate with me."
Zheng Jun hesitated.
Of course he wanted to regain his freedom and thought about how to overturn his case, but suddenly the opportunity was presented to him, and he felt it was too easy to believe.
“You’re going to spend the rest of your life in prison, what could I possibly want from you?” Li Huai added.
Yes, could things get any worse than they are now?
With this in mind, Zheng Jun finally took Li Huai's request seriously.
"Actually, I'm not sure why Yu Huimin did that, but I have a guess."
"Tell me about it." Li Huai immediately became serious.
“Actually, I was Yu Huimin’s neighbor before. We used to live in Jinshi.” Zheng Jun began to recall.
Tianjin? How did Yu Huimin eventually get to Beijing and become a nurse in a hospital?
"What did Yu Huimin do when you were neighbors with her?" Li Huai couldn't help but ask.
"She is a nurse at the hospital."
Sure enough. "Go on, I'm listening."
"I think she hurt me, probably because she was afraid I'd reveal her past. It took me a long time to figure that out."
Now Li Huai became curious about what Yu Huimin was trying to cover up, that she would go to such lengths to frame her former neighbor.
"Actually, I haven't seen Yu Huimin for many years. When I came to Beijing, I saw Yu Huimin by chance. I was a little happy to recognize her, but she said I had mistaken her for someone else."
"I'm still a little surprised, since her appearance hasn't changed that much, and I can tell that she should still remember me."
"I didn't think much of it at the time, but not long after, I got into trouble." Zheng Jun said with a bitter smile.
After learning that Yu Huimin was responsible for his death, he felt resentment and regretted his loose tongue.
Why did he go to Yu Huimin to ask? If he hadn't spoken to Yu Huimin and had just left, would nothing have happened afterward?
