Chapter 26: An Old Married Couple?

"You know what, Qinglan actually seems pretty good to me today," Wu Mei said with a smile.

"I told you long ago, Aiguo said Comrade Qinglan is a very good person, otherwise, would you have introduced her to Li Huai?" Sun Shengli said with a smug look of confidence.

"Look at how capable you are," Wu Mei said, glancing at her husband as she continued sewing shoe soles.

Sun Shengli happily sipped his wine.

The house wasn't big, but Zhao Qinglan and Li Huai worked together and quickly cleaned it up.

By the time we finished tidying up, it was already quite late.

It's cold outside and gets dark early. Although all the houses in these residential areas have electricity, there aren't many entertainment options at night, and since everyone gets up early in the morning, they generally go to bed early as well.

Li Huai glanced at the time and said, "Qinglan, it's getting late, let's rest."

Seeing that her daughter was already a little confused, Zhao Qinglan nodded.

Li Huai entered the house and began to lay out the mattress and take out the quilt. He took out one quilt first, paused for a moment, and then immediately took out another quilt. Fortunately, there were still extra quilts at home.

Zhao Qinglan came in carrying an enamel basin and saw that Li Huai had already spread out the quilts.

"Let's soak our feet, it feels so good."

"Oh." Li Huai felt flattered.

In the years since he married Zhu Kexin, it's rare for her to even give him a kind look, let alone bring him water to wash his feet.

While Li Huai was soaking his feet, Zhao Qinglan also took off her daughter's outer clothes and tucked her into the quilt.

Looking at her daughter's sleeping face, Zhao Qinglan smiled.

My daughter has been doing well these days, and some of the resentment in her heart has been worn away.

Looking back, Zhao Qinglan saw that Li Huai had finished washing and was about to take the basin.

"I don't need to do it." Li Huai pressed down on the basin.

"No, I'll do it."

Their hands accidentally touched.

Zhao Qinglan was fine, but Li Huai seemed to bounce back as if he had been electrocuted.

The atmosphere suddenly became somewhat strange.

While Li Huai was in a daze, Zhao Qinglan took the basin and left.

Holding the basin, she chuckled to herself.

Li Huai was really quite green at that time, reacting so strongly to just touching hands, but thinking about it now, it's kind of funny.

After soaking his feet, Li Huai didn't lie down immediately. Instead, he dragged his shoes and went to his son's side.

The second child was already fast asleep inside, but the eldest child, despite his young age, seemed preoccupied.

Hearing footsteps approaching, Da Wa quickly closed his eyes.

Li Huai pushed open the door and came in. He walked to the bedside and tucked the blanket around his younger son first. When he reached out to his older son, he suddenly stopped.

That brat, he's pretending to be asleep, his eyelashes are still moving, does he think he can't see through it?

However, Li Huai didn't expose him. He sat by the bed for a while before getting up and leaving.

Zhao Qinglan was sitting on the bed sewing when she saw him come back. She asked in a low voice, "Asleep?"

"Let's go to sleep, let's go to sleep too."

“Okay.” Zhao Qinglan put down what she was holding.

After the lights were turned on and everyone waited, Li Huai suddenly felt that something was not quite right.

That's right. They just got married, and today is their first day living together in the same house. How come Qinglan and he are acting like old married couples, without any awkwardness between them?

That's right, they're an old married couple.

Although it's fine this way, it just feels a bit strange.

On the train, Li Huai kept his eyes peeled for his belongings and barely slept. In addition, he had been away from home for many days and couldn't relax, so he was always on edge.

Now that I'm finally home, I feel at ease. I only agonized for a moment before falling into a deep sleep.

Zhao Qinglan had slept on the train, so she wasn't too tired. Hearing that Li Huai had fallen asleep, she turned to her side and stared at his face.

He's really young, and I must say, he's really handsome," she said, a smile curving her lips.

As I looked at him, I couldn't help but trace the outline of his face with my hand.

It feels so good to have met Li Huai when I was young and even gotten married to him.

Looking at my daughter sleeping soundly beside me, I felt even happier.

God is so good to her. With a smile on her face, Zhao Qinglan fell asleep.

Years of sleep habits made Li Huai open his eyes early. When he sensed someone beside him, he suddenly tensed up and sat up abruptly.

Upon seeing that it was Zhao Qinglan, he realized that he had already remarried.

Afraid of waking the mother and daughter beside him, he quietly got dressed and left the house.

As soon as Li Huai left, Zhao Qinglan woke up.

When she woke up, her first reaction was to look at her daughter beside her. Only when she saw her daughter lying there sleeping peacefully did she relax.

Although her anger has gradually subsided these days because of her daughter's smiles, she still worries about her daughter and is always afraid that her daughter will disappear in the blink of an eye.

The eldest child was sleeping soundly when he felt a warm, wet sensation beneath him. He groggily got up and touched himself, only to find his hand covered in "water".

He immediately realized that he had forgotten to remind his younger brother to pee before going to bed last night.

With a long face, she kicked her younger brother, pulled him up, and the two of them started getting dressed.

Zhao Qinglan, who was busy preparing breakfast outside, heard the commotion and began to move quietly, paying attention to what was happening inside.

Actually, Da Wa really didn't want to face Zhao Qinglan, but he had no choice.

This is his home; he and his brother can't just hide inside forever.

Erwa had no psychological burden and ran out as soon as he opened the door.

Seeing Zhao Qinglan busy there, he paused for a moment, then ran into the yard.

The older child lingered out, clutching his wet blanket.

Zhao Qinglan glanced at them and immediately understood what was going on, then chuckled. "Yan Sen, put the mattress in the basin; I'll wash it later."

"Hmph, it's none of your business."

After saying that, the eldest child hurriedly left with his quilt.

He was small, and the mattress wasn't thin, so when he was all curled up and hugged, you could hardly see his head.

Zhao Qinglan didn't argue with Da Wa, but just shook her head helplessly. This child was quite stubborn.

Fortunately, she knew he wasn't a bad person, and that things could be taken slowly; she had plenty of time.

Although the eldest child and his younger brother have been living alone at home these days, they eat at the neighbor's house. As for their clothes, they haven't changed them for several days in the cold weather, and they haven't washed them at all.

The temperature was still low early in the morning, and the water pressure was so cold that Da Wa shivered as soon as he touched it.

But knowing he could never bow down to the woman who stole his father, he gritted his teeth and began to rub.

Zhao Qinglan peeked out the window and saw that the child was indeed washing up, so she quickly ran out.

"You silly child, I already told you I'd wash it. Go play with your brother now."

After saying that, she grabbed the mattress and started rubbing it herself, and she shivered because the water was so cold.

The eldest child was trying to snatch the mattress back when Li Huai returned, carrying his youngest son in his arms.

"Why are you washing the mattress so early in the morning?" Li Huai asked in surprise, putting down his son.

Erwa ran into the house feeling guilty.

"Second child wet the bed," the eldest child said, holding his breath.

"I'll prepare breakfast first; I'll wash the mattress later," Zhao Qinglan said, standing up.

The water's too cold. She should boil some hot water and mix it in before scrubbing. Women need to take good care of themselves; good health is more important than anything else.

Having been given a second chance at life, she felt a deep regret for her fate.
