"Are you all dressed? Come here and let Mom take a look." Zhao Qinglan began to check the children's clothes one by one.
Once she was sure there were no mistakes, she waved her hand dismissively. "Let's go."
As before, they took two taxis, with her and her husband each taking two children.
After they got in the car and told the driver their destination, he started chatting with them.
"You're not locals."
"Yes, the kids are on holiday, so we brought them out to play."
"Are you going to visit relatives? The people living there aren't ordinary people."
"I guess so," Zhao Qinglan smiled, without going into too much detail.
Seeing that they were well-dressed, and that they had come from a high-end hotel and were going to that place, the driver gave her a second look.
It has to be said that very few taxi drivers are not talkative.
Zhao Qinglan was so engrossed in the driver's casual conversation that she barely noticed they had arrived outside Cheng Tao's grandfather's courtyard.
"Comrade, outside vehicles are not allowed to enter here, you can only get off here."
Zhao Qinglan expressed her understanding, paid the fare, and got off the bus with the children.
They had just arrived when the husband's car pulled up.
The family lined up, straightened their clothes, and then walked towards the courtyard.
The sentry at the gate stopped them.
Upon learning their purpose, the sentry quickly contacted the Cheng family, and after confirmation, they were allowed in.
Zhao Qinglan was looking for which house the Cheng family lived in when Cheng Tao came running over happily.
"You've finally arrived."
Zhao Qinglan quickly raised her wrist to check her watch. It was just 11:40, which startled her, making her think she was much later than expected.
Cheng Tao ran up to them and started chattering away.
"Dinner is almost ready. My grandparents are home, and oh yeah, so are my cousin and my older cousin."
Cheng Tao couldn't help but say a few more words about his cousin, Cheng Ce, and his older cousin.
"My cousin has a bit of a strange personality. Yan Sen, you guys wait a bit, um, you know what I mean." He didn't know what else to say.
The children looked at each other.
Cheng Tao had originally planned to stay by himself, but his grandparents, knowing that Da Wa's family was bringing four children, including a girl, insisted on inviting his cousins as well.
Grandpa and Grandma meant well, but he was afraid of making things worse.
They hadn't walked far when they stopped in front of a small Western-style house.
The two-story villa with its small courtyard looks very stylish.
This place used to be where foreigners lived in the concession area. Even after decades, the house still looks very sturdy, with only minor renovations inside.
When they walked over, Cheng Ce and a girl with a cold expression were already standing in front of the door.
After just one glance, Zhao Qinglan felt that this girl seemed a bit difficult to deal with, which explained why Cheng Tao had said those words that left her wanting more.
But they're just here as guests for a meal, and she's worried about what a little girl might do.
Cheng Ce treated them very well, greeting them as soon as he saw them and always wearing a smile.
After being welcomed inside, they saw two elderly people sitting on the sofa.
"Come on in, have a seat. Your food will be ready soon." Grandma Cheng, still wearing her reading glasses, waved her hand, looking kind and approachable.
Zhao Qinglan and the others then walked over.
With so many people, there weren't enough seats on the sofas, so Cheng Tao and his cousin quickly brought over a few more stools.
"This girl is so pretty, what's her name?" Grandma Cheng asked Xiaoduo.
"Grandma, my name is Li Xiaoduo."
"So rustic," Cheng Yingying, Cheng Tao's cousin, muttered, wondering why her grandmother had asked her to come and keep this bunch of country bumpkins company.
Cheng Yingying had arranged to go out with her friends today, but her grandmother called her over. Not daring to argue, she held a grudge against Xiao Duo and her family.
Xiao Duo and the others' clothes weren't outdated at all; they were all carefully selected by Zhao Qinglan from the department store. Even by her standards from her previous life, their current outfits wouldn't be considered fashionable.
However, Cheng Yingying was already prejudiced, so she naturally found fault with everything.
Although nothing actually happened, Cheng Yingying's disdain was still noticed by Da Wa and San Wa. Because of Cheng Tao, the two brothers pretended that nothing had happened, but they were already very dissatisfied with Cheng Yingying.
Grandpa Cheng inquired about Li Huai's work situation and, after learning some details, began to admire Li Huai.

The Cheng family members didn't talk much while eating, so the meal was finished quickly.
After they finished eating, Grandma Cheng gave instructions to her granddaughter.
"Yingying, you girls can play together, why don't you take Xiaoduo to the room?"
They have several rooms reserved for their grandchildren, and Cheng Yingying is one of the most frequent residents.
