In the 1980s, there was no such thing as checking scores by phone; you had to wait for the education bureau and schools to announce the middle school entrance exam results.
There was no exact timeframe even before the announcement.
Cheng Tao had just returned from his grandmother's house in Haishi a day ago and was thinking of visiting Da Wa and the others when his father told him that the results of the high school entrance exam were about to be announced.
As the Party Secretary of the Prefectural Committee, Cheng's father was naturally one of the first people in the region to know that the middle school entrance examination results had been released.
However, he didn't use his privilege to find out his son's score in advance; he just told his son to be mentally prepared.
For Cheng's father, the experience of waiting and seeing the scores with everyone was also a precious memory, so he didn't want to ruin his son's experience.
Knowing that the scores would be released soon, Cheng Tao rushed over to find Da Wa early in the morning.
The eldest child has been cooped up at home for several days, and has to constantly face the scrutiny and teasing from his mother and younger siblings, which can be described as "a living hell".
Although he was precocious, he was still a junior high school graduate and had no idea how to handle matters of the heart.
Zhao Qinglan also wanted to find an opportunity to have a heart-to-heart talk with her son, so that he wouldn't develop a psychological trauma related to this kind of thing.
When Da Wa saw Cheng Tao arrive, he felt he had been rescued.
Zhao Qinglan and her friends might have fun with Da Wa in private, but they knew how to keep their distance from outsiders.
Even though Cheng Tao and Da Wa have a good relationship, they would not take the initiative to tell Da Wa about this private matter.
Unless the older child is willing to speak up on their own initiative.
"When did you get back?" Da Wa asked Cheng Tao happily.
"Just yesterday, by the way, our middle school entrance exam results are coming out, my dad told me."
The older child immediately became excited. "Really?"
"How could this be fake? It should be announced today. Why don't we go to the school and wait?" Cheng Tao suggested.
"Okay, let's go quickly." Although Da Wa doesn't usually talk about the high school entrance exam, he is still very concerned about the results.
Zhao Qinglan also became concerned when they were about to go out.
Where are you going?
"Mom, Cheng Tao said the high school entrance exam results might come out today. Let's go to the school for a visit."
"Come out today! Okay, go quickly. If you haven't heard anything by lunchtime, go home and eat, understand?" she instructed.
"knew."
After saying that, Da Wa immediately ran off with Cheng Tao.
Hearing her son say that the results were about to be released, Zhao Qinglan became a little nervous.
A little while later, Zhao Qingzhu arrived with Nannan. The two sisters chatted for a while, and her nervousness lessened.
The two of them were still talking about Zhao Qingzhu opening a new store.
Because Zhao Qinglan was very experienced in this area, her younger sister Zhao Qingzhu naturally often came to ask for her advice.
Nannan was taken to watch TV by Xiaoduo.
When Da Wa and his friends arrived at the school, they found that there were some well-informed students there, so it seemed that the results were almost certain.
After greeting their classmates, the two bought two popsicles at the school gate and squatted there eating them while waiting.
As time went by, more and more junior high school graduates came to the school.
Some people even discussed the arrangements for which vocational school or high school they would be admitted to.
When Shen Fangfei and her friends arrived at the school gate after hearing the news, they quickly spotted their most dazzling crush among the large crowd.
Da Wa's best friend at school is Cheng Tao, and he is also quite familiar with his peers in the family quarters of the original troupe.
He was a righteous person and did well in his studies. Although he didn't talk much, he was implicitly the leader of the boys in his class.
When people arrive, they like to gather around him to chat and talk.
The eldest child would occasionally chime in, but most of the time he just listened to what his classmates were saying, yet that didn't diminish his brilliance.
Shen Fangfei quickly noticed that, besides herself, several other girls were secretly glancing in the direction where Da Wa was, and she began to feel anxious.
"Fangfei, why don't you go and talk to Li Yansen?" her friend encouraged.
"This, this isn't appropriate, there are so many people here."
"You should only go over when there are a lot of people. You have no idea how many girls in our school have a crush on Li Yansen."
Indeed, Shen Fangfei's motivation immediately increased.
"Come with me." She still lacked the courage to walk alone in front of a large group of boys.
“Okay, I’ll go with you.” Her friend was also willing to take the plunge.
The two slowly walked up to Da Wa and the others.
As Shen Fangfei approached, someone raised their chin. "Look, Shen Fangfei is coming."
Shen Fangfei was one of the prettiest girls in Da Wa's school; otherwise, she wouldn't have been targeted and teased by those hooligans.
Of the boys present, how many didn't like pretty girls?
The boys were all excited, their hormones surging.
When Da Wa noticed Shen Fangfei approaching, he immediately tried to escape.
"Cheng Tao, my stomach hurts, I need to go to the toilet."
"Let's go, let's go together. I just ate two popsicles in one go, and I feel like I need to go to the bathroom," Cheng Tao said, rubbing his stomach.
The two had just taken a step when Shen Fangfei, seeing that Da Wa was about to leave, became anxious. "Li Yansen."
Her shout made all the boys present realize what was going on. They looked at her, then at the older boy who wanted to slip away, and started to cheer with exaggerated "oh"s or other sounds.
The older child was stuck in that awkward position, neither here nor there.
Cheng Tao immediately stopped going to the bathroom. "Yan Sen, what's going on?"
Seeing him stop, Shen Fangfei quickly walked up to him. "Li Yansen, when are you going to tell me the result of what I told you?" she asked ambiguously.
In front of so many students, she was naturally too embarrassed to ask directly; it took immense courage for her to even ask.
