As soon as Zhao Qinglan went out, Grandpa Dou called Ding Yu and Liu Dandan over, afraid that Zhao Qinglan would suffer a loss.
Sure enough, as soon as the door opened, I saw Niu Xiangyun's face.
"Hello, Auntie." Niu Xiangyun can now greet her fluently.
"Miss, what do you need?" Zhao Qinglan pretended not to understand, still wanting to give the other party a chance to leave.
"Auntie, these are pickled vegetables my mom made. They're not anything fancy, but I wanted to give them to you to try," Niu Xiangyun said with a smile.
"Thank you for your kindness, young lady. Please take these pickled vegetables; there's no need to send them to us. We're leaving the capital soon." "Ah!" Niu Xiangyun exclaimed. "Auntie, aren't you staying in the capital?"
“Yes, my husband doesn’t work here. We’re just visiting relatives in Beijing,” Zhao Qinglan explained clearly.
Niu Xiangyun's face visibly darkened, yet she still made a request. "Auntie, can I see your son?" she asked, unwilling to give up.
Zhao Qinglan had been speaking politely, but her face darkened upon hearing this.
Just then, Ding Yu and Liu Dandan walked over.
"Niu Xiangyun, right? My son is only seventeen and is a senior in high school this year. He has excellent grades and will definitely get into university if nothing unexpected happens. Do you think I would consider letting my son find a partner now?"
"Are you just jealous of my son's good fortune, or do you have a grudge against our family?"
“Auntie, no, I, I just like him,” Niu Xiangyun said, feeling wronged.
Zhao Qinglan laughed in anger. "Like him? You've only met my son a few times, do you even know him? Tell me, what do you like about him?"
She didn't believe in any of that damn love at first sight nonsense, especially after hearing the old man say that the girl in front of her was a gold digger.
"I, I, he's good-looking." In her anxiety, Niu Xiangyun could only come up with this reason.
"Good-looking? My son is indeed good-looking, but what does that have to do with you? Just because my son is good-looking doesn't mean he has to date you. Who do you think you are?"
“Auntie, I just like him, what did I do wrong?” Niu Xiangyun’s eyes reddened.
"What's wrong with you? I don't care who you like, my son doesn't like you. If you keep bothering us, that's your fault. There are plenty of girls who like my son. Are we supposed to respond to every single one of them?"
"Auntie, how could you do this?"
"So what if I'm like this? Get out of here and stop blocking our door," Zhao Qinglan said fiercely.
Niu Xiangyun tried to squeeze in to argue, but Ding Yu pushed her out.
As she watched the gate close in front of her, Niu Xiangyun covered her face and ran away crying.
They made quite a commotion at the door, and although the children inside couldn't hear very clearly, they were all very curious.
When Zhao Qinglan and the others returned, all the children ran to her to ask questions.
"Mom, what's wrong?" Erwa was the first to lose his patience.
Zhao Qinglan glanced at Da Wa. "Your brother just attracted some bad romantic attention."
In an instant, everyone's eyes turned intently to the eldest child.
The eldest child immediately felt embarrassed.
"Oh, Mom, what peach blossoms? I don't know anything about them."
"Alright, alright, everyone go back to what you were doing, everything's fine now." She waved the children away.
Of course she knew that her eldest son was innocent; otherwise, she would have already disciplined him by pulling his ear.
After everyone left, Zhao Qinglan and the old man began to talk.
"Grandpa Dou, we're leaving the day after tomorrow. Will you be affected by staying here?"
"Don't worry, the Niu family wouldn't dare to do anything. What impact could it have on me?"
Even though the old man said that, Zhao Qinglan still planned to tell her uncle and sister to keep an eye on things here.
As for Niu Xiangyun, she covered her face and ran home crying all the way, then lay on the bed and kept crying.
This terrified the Niu family. As the only girl in the family, Niu Xiangyun was very much loved by her parents, otherwise she wouldn't have had to occupy a room by herself. Her sister-in-law had a lot of complaints but didn't dare to say them directly.
"What's wrong?" Mother Cow quickly sat down by the bed and asked.
"Who bullied you, Xiangyun? Say something!"
"Mom, no, please don't arrange any more marriages for me. They'll reject me," she cried.
"What? That family bullied you! That's outrageous!" Mother Niu immediately got angry.
It just so happened that it was her day off and her son was home, so she went over to ask her son and daughter-in-law to come with her to seek justice for her daughter.
Niu Xiangyun's sister-in-law didn't really want to go, but she had no choice but to go now.
The family of three arrived at Zhao Qinglan's house and began banging on the door.
"come out."
The knocking on the door startled Zhao Qinglan and the old man, who exchanged bewildered glances.
"I'll go out with you," the old man said worriedly.
"No need, Grandpa Dou, you should rest. Ding Yu and I will go over there."
"No, I have to go check it out."
With no other option, Zhao Qinglan had to bring the old man along, along with Ding Yu and Liu Dandan.
The children were still inside, but the curious Erwa opened the window and kept looking towards the door.
The eldest child frowned, but still decided to go out. "I'll go out and take a look too."
As soon as Liu Dandan opened the door, she saw the aggressive-looking Niu family.
"Tell me, how did you bully my daughter?" the cow mother said, hands on her hips.
"Bullying your daughter? Who bullied her? She's the one who keeps coming to my house to harass me. I just wanted her to face reality: she and my son can't be together," Zhao Qinglan said irritably.
What kind of people are in this family?
"So you're still bullying my daughter. My daughter is still a little girl. Who told you to talk about her like that?" Mother Niu said unreasonably.
Many people had already come out of the alley to watch the excitement.
Grandpa Dou said irritably, "Everyone in the alley knows what kind of person your daughter is. Not only is she materialistic, but she also speaks rudely. Our eldest son is only seventeen, still a high school student. Why does she insist on dating him?"
"It's wrong for our family not to want to date? This is the first time I've seen a girl who's so eager to force a guy to date her. Don't you realize you haven't raised your kids properly? And you still have the nerve to cause trouble here?"
The Niu family's son had no idea what had happened. Hearing what Old Master Dou said, he was shocked, and his wife next to him wished she could hide herself away.
"Exactly, could it be that he's after someone else's house?"
"I overheard some of it just now. She didn't say anything, but she kept pestering me," the neighbors began to discuss.
Old Master Dou was more popular in the alley than Niu Mu was.
The cow's face looked visibly grim.
When the eldest child reached the door, he saw the two sides facing off.
Seeing the eldest child, the cow mother seemed to have found another breakthrough.
"Tell me, did you bully my daughter?!"
"Huh? Who is your daughter? Don't make false accusations. I've stayed at home the whole time, except when I go to my aunt's and great-uncle's houses."
