After attending Wei Hong's wedding, Zhao Qinglan thought of her eldest son and went to the military academy to see him.
Although military academies are more strictly managed than other universities, they do allow family members to visit.
Zhao Qinglan registered and then entered the school gate.
She remembered her son's class and department, but didn't know which classroom he was in, so she had to wait outside the cafeteria with Ding Yu by her side.
After waiting for about twenty minutes, she heard the bell ring for the end of get out of class, and music started playing over the loudspeaker.
Soon, students began to appear.
How many people wouldn't be enthusiastic about eating? Watching these young people rushing to the cafeteria, Zhao Qinglan found it quite amusing.
It's not uncommon for parents or relatives to visit the school on weekdays, so many students passing by would glance at it curiously before heading into the cafeteria.
Da Wa and his roommates appeared, chatting and laughing, before he even noticed them, his roommates reminded him.
"Li Yansen, isn't that Auntie?"
Because they had eaten together and gone grocery shopping together, that roommate still had a deep impression of Zhao Qinglan.
The eldest child immediately looked over, and sure enough, it was his mother.
He immediately handed the rice bowl to his roommate and ran to Zhao Qinglan.
"Mom, what brings you here?" Her face was full of surprise.
"Your Aunt Weihong is getting married, and Mom is here for her wedding. I just happened to come and see you."
"Aunt Wei Hong is married!" Da Wa was shocked again.
He usually calls home two or three times a month, but he hadn't called for a week, so he didn't know about Wei Hong's wedding or his mother's visit to Beijing.
"Yes, you must be hungry. Come in and eat, Mom will keep you company."
"Yes," the eldest child replied happily.
As soon as they entered, Da Wa's roommate had already reserved seats. Da Wa quickly led his mother over to sit down, and then took out money to ask his roommate to help buy food.
"Buy more of whatever good food is available today."
Soon, several young men went to the crowd to line up and buy food.
"It's perfect timing, Mom will also take a look at your meals," Zhao Qinglan said with a smile.
"Mom, our meals are actually not bad. They're definitely not as fancy as the ones in restaurants, but they taste alright. We have meat and vegetables every day. Some of my classmates who don't spend much can even save money every month."
"Don't skimp on food. Our family doesn't need you to save money. Eating well, drinking well, and taking good care of your health are the most important things."
"Mom, don't worry, I know what's important. When we have time off, we'll even go out for a nice meal." Da Wa laughed.
"That's good."
The food was bought back quickly.
It certainly doesn't look very refined, but the taste is alright.
There are three dishes: stir-fried cabbage with vinegar, stir-fried shredded potatoes, and braised pork.
Zhao Qinglan didn't mind and she and Ding Yu both took chopsticks and ate a meal together.
After finishing their meal, Da Wa's roommates went back to their dorm first, while Zhao Qinglan and her son took a walk on campus to digest their food and chat.
"Do you have enough money on you? If not, Mom will give you some more."
"Mom, really, you don't need to. We get a lot of things from the same package, so we don't have many expenses. The allowance alone is enough for me."
"Alright, during your break, did you visit your aunt and great-uncle?"
"I've been there. My aunt even brought me some treats when she visited the school." He's so old, but his aunt still treats him like a child and brings him snacks. Although his roommates laughed at him, those guys were still quick to grab the food without hesitation.
As he was laughing, Da Wa suddenly remembered that his grandfather, Li Zhenhua, had come to visit.
He didn't want to mention it on the phone or in his letters. If it were his father visiting him this time, he certainly wouldn't say anything either, but if it were his mother, he didn't want to lie.
"Mom, I have something to tell you."
"Just say it, why are you so serious? Did you get into trouble?" Zhao Qinglan said with amusement.
"No, Mom, it's me, that grandpa came to the school earlier."
It took Zhao Qinglan a moment to realize that her son was talking about Li Zhenhua.
"He came to see you?"
"Yes, he said he just came to see me and had no other intentions."
"It's okay, let him see if he wants to. You don't need to feel guilty about what your grandfather and father did, it has nothing to do with you."
“Grandpa gave me money back, but I didn’t want it. He insisted, so I took it.”
"Take it if you want, it's no big deal. Just don't tell your dad when you get back. He's so petty. Don't worry, Mom will keep it a secret for you."
The eldest child immediately beamed. "Mom is the best."
When eating in the school cafeteria, most of the military academy students wore the same uniform, so Zhao Qinglan and Ding Yu still stood out quite a bit.
There are some female students in military academies, but not many. When the school finished its military training and drills, Da Wa was awarded the title of outstanding model student for her excellent performance and was remembered by many people. Among them was Ji Rou, one of the best female students.
"Ji Rou, who are those two women sitting next to Li Yansen today?"
“How would I know?” Ji Rou replied.
"Judging from her appearance, she must be Sister Li Yansen, right?" a girl said.
“Impossible. I asked one of the people in their dorm, and Li Yansen is the eldest son in his family.” Someone chimed in.
"It could also be my cousin or older cousin."
The more they discussed it, the more confused Ji Rou became.
Despite her seemingly indifferent exterior, she was actually very curious about the relationship between Da Wa and those two women.
She and Li Yansen have only exchanged a few words so far, so what right does she have to ask him?
After walking with her son on campus for about ten minutes, Zhao Qinglan decided to leave.
