The gate to the courtyard was simply closed but not bolted.
Xiao Duo and Sanwa went outside together.
When I opened the door, I saw an elderly woman standing outside.
The old lady's eyes lit up when she saw Xiaoduo and Sanwa.
“What a handsome child! This is some food that Grandma made. Please take it. I was too embarrassed to bother you when you first moved here.”
Xiao Duo was too embarrassed to answer, so she asked first, "Grandma, where do you live?"
"Look, it's this courtyard over here." The old lady pointed to the courtyard next to their house.
It turned out to be a neighbor, and Xiaoduo took the things. "Thank you, Grandma. I'll tell my mom when she gets back."
Where did your mom go?
"My mom went out to buy some things."
"That's true. You've just moved here, so you must be missing a lot of things. If you need anything, you can borrow it from Grandma."
"I understand, grandma."
"Then I'll go back. You guys go inside too, it's hot outside."
Xiao Duo and Sanwa watched the old lady leave before going inside.
As soon as the old lady left, in the other courtyard of Zhao Qinglan's house, a woman who looked to be around thirty years old snorted disdainfully after witnessing what had just happened.
"He's just got a few bucks, and he's already sucking up to them. Who knows where that money came from?" The tone was incredibly sarcastic.
Seeing that Zhao Qinglan's family had bought so many appliances, especially air conditioners, made her feel uncomfortable.
She had just bought a refrigerator for her family a few days ago, making her one of the few families in the residential area to own one. In particular, it was a brand new imported model, which made her quite proud of herself in front of the military family members.
As a result, as soon as Zhao Qinglan's family moved in, no one remembered her refrigerator anymore; it was completely overshadowed.
She, who has always been proud and liked to compare herself with others, couldn't stand it.
But the family had just bought a refrigerator, and even if they bought an air conditioner, they couldn't afford it in the short term. Even though she was upset, she couldn't compare.
If there's any other reason why she had a problem with the neighbors, it would be because of what Zhao Qinglan looked like and what she wore.
She and her husband were an older man and a younger woman; her husband was a second-time bride who was more than ten years older than her. Because of this, among the officers of similar rank to her husband, she was the youngest military wife.
Because of her youth, she always thought she was the most beautiful among the military wives around her.
But suddenly a family moved in next door. Even if she didn't want to admit it, she knew that Zhao Qinglan was beautiful and dressed fashionably.
Even in terms of age, he seemed younger than her, and she was outshone in every way. It's no wonder she felt uncomfortable, given that she's always in the spotlight.
She felt a pang of jealousy. The old lady was initially embarrassed, as were the neighbors on both sides, which was the main reason why no one visited Zhao Qinglan and her family after they moved in.
Zhao Qinglan had no idea that her family had just arrived and were already being ostracized by their neighbors.
With her two sons and a considerable amount of lost merchandise, Zhao Qinglan and her family finally made it home.
Fortunately, there were taxis outside, so they weren't too tired on the road.
As soon as she got home, Xiaoduo told her mother about the old lady next door bringing her food. Zhao Qinglan then decided to give her some in return once she had cooked something delicious.
She was tired after running around outside, so she didn't want to make too much of a meal. She just made cold noodles and some steamed egg custard with vinegar and sesame oil that had been chilled in the refrigerator.
Although they weren't expensive, she thought the cold noodles and steamed egg custard were quite delicious, so she took a bowl, divided some out, and asked Xiaoduo to deliver them to the neighbors.
After thinking about it, she realized it wouldn't be right to leave the other neighbor's table empty, so she served some more.
"Sanwa, run an errand, don't just sit there all day."
Since their mother has spoken, even the laziest third child has to get moving.
Xiao Duo carried the bowl over and received a warm welcome from the old lady.
"Why are you being so polite? Okay, then I'll try your food."
The third child's situation was not so good.
As soon as Sanwa knocked on the door and explained his purpose, Tao Ailian, a woman who disliked their family, started speaking sarcastically.
"It's not like we're starving. Who needs your charity? You think you're so great just because you have a few bucks?" With that, she slammed the door shut in annoyance.
The sound was so loud that even Xiaoduo, who had just reached her front door, heard it and quickly looked over.
Sanwa paused for a moment, then picked up the bowl and walked back.
"What's wrong with Sanwa?" Xiaoduo asked.
“Oh, it’s nothing, just a madman,” he said indifferently.
Xiao Duo's eyes widened. "A madman?"
"Yeah, a madman."
Xiao Duo followed her younger brother into the house with a puzzled look on her face.
Seeing her son return with a bowl, Zhao Qinglan was puzzled. "Where was he?"
"Mom, the people living here are mentally unstable. Let's stay away from them from now on," Sanwa said, putting the bowl back on the table.
Zhao Qinglan raised an eyebrow. "What's going on?"
"He's full of resentment, has a harsh temper, and is very sour," he summarized.
Now everyone in the family is curious: who exactly lives next door?
They didn't doubt that Sanwa was talking nonsense; Sanwa was always clever.
"It's good that you don't eat. I feel like I haven't had enough to eat yet, little brother, don't be sad." Erwa comforted his younger brother.
Sanwa glanced helplessly at his brother and said, "Which eye of yours saw that I was sad?"
Da Wa and Xiao Duo laughed at the comical exchange between them.
Zhao Qinglan fell into deep thought. To be honest, she didn't know anything about the situation in her neighbors' houses. She would have to ask her husband about it when he came back.
Who knows how long we'll be living together?
Li Huai wasn't busy when he first arrived; he left work on time.
He had originally planned to invite Xiao Chu home for dinner, but Xiao Chu was too embarrassed to come.
