Chapter 50 Proving Innocence

Today is a good day, Li Huai received his allowance!

When he returned at noon, he handed over all the money and coupons he had received to Zhao Qinglan.

Zhao Qinglan took out five yuan and handed it to Li Huai.

Li Huai was stunned. "What's this?"

"Here's some pocket money for you," Zhao Qinglan said with a smile.

She was naturally happy that Li Huai was willing to give her the money, but a man can't be without any money when he's out in the world.

She never had a chance like Wang Dazhi before, but now she is the true mistress of the house.

"Pocket money," Li Huai said with a smile as he took the money.

"I'll cook you a delicious dish this afternoon," she announced loudly.

The children cheered immediately, as if it were New Year's Day.

I must say, children's happiness is truly simple and pure.

Zhao Qinglan felt better after hearing this.

Not just their family, but everyone in the residential area is generally in a good mood today.

After Li Huai finished eating and left, Zhao Qinglan took the food ration book and asked Wu Mei to go to the grocery store to buy things.

Each time the allowance is issued, each family is able to make a slight improvement.

As soon as the two stepped out the door, Wei Hong followed them, carrying a basket.

"Sister-in-law, Qinglan, wait for me."

Wei Hong looks older than her actual age, but she is only a few years older than Zhao Qinglan.

The three of them chatted and laughed all the way to the grocery store, only to find that there were already quite a few people there.

The grocery stores were also clever; they knew that people would buy more things when they received their monthly allowances, so they stocked up on more goods.

Although it was afternoon, there was still a considerable amount of meat, eggs, and vegetables.

When Zhao Qinglan arrived, some of the military wives looked at her with a strange expression.

Zhao Qinglan knew perfectly well what had happened; it was all because of that foul-mouthed Qian Hongxia.

However, Qian Hongxia wasn't there right now. She waited for Qian Hongxia to come to her house with people, but they didn't come. Seeing so many people in the grocery store, she had an idea.

"Sister-in-law, what about Da Wa and the others? I've been keeping them learning for quite a few days now, but I don't know how well they're doing. Teacher Wei, could you test them for me another day?"

"Okay, I'll go over as soon as I get back." Wei Hong has a strong sense of responsibility as a teacher.

Wu Mei started nagging. "Qinglan, you're so patient and capable of teaching. As for me, I get a headache just looking at those words in the book."

"Hey, sister-in-law, I'm just giving random advice," she said modestly.

"You know what, the kids are much better behaved now. Before, they were always just being naughty and playing around. Not only are they better behaved, but they also look like they've gained weight." Wu Mei couldn't help but sigh. She really admired Zhao Qinglan for this.

Everyone says being a stepmother is difficult, but Zhao Qinglan is someone she's personally witnessed doing it better than many biological mothers. No wonder her two sons, Da Wa and Er Wa, are now so obedient.

And then there's Li Huai. According to his father, he can now focus on his work without distractions and is performing even better than before.

It's clear how beneficial it is to marry a virtuous and capable wife.

Zhao Qinglan didn't lower her voice at all when she spoke, so the military wives who were already paying attention to her naturally heard her.

Judging from Zhao Qinglan's words, she must have a good reason for keeping the children at home every day and not letting them go out.

Furthermore, she invited teacher Wei Hong over, not afraid of being seen by others, which means that she might not have abused the children.

The remarks made by Wu Mei, the wife of the regiment commander, prove that the two brothers, Da Wa and Da Wa, are being cared for even better than before.

So, he was locked up at home and beaten and scolded every day? People's credibility of this story has plummeted.

It was all just hearsay and speculation, driven by a thirst for gossip and curiosity. Now, hearing what the person involved has to say...

One of the military wives, out of curiosity, struck up a conversation. "Comrade Zhao, how do you raise your children at home? Tell us about it!"

A military wife nearby nodded in agreement. "That's right, tell me about it. My child is so naughty, I want to see if I can use this knowledge."

Seeing that many military wives were looking over, Zhao Qinglan knew this was a great opportunity for her to prove her innocence, and said without hesitation, "So what? If you don't mind me being long-winded, I'll just say it and everyone can hear it."

"I'm worried that my eldest child won't be able to keep up with the teacher's pace once he starts school. Plus, winters are getting colder and colder, and I'm afraid they'll get frostbite running around outside all day. So I thought it would be a win-win situation to let them learn something at home."

"Speaking of which, I have to thank the teachers at the elementary school in our army for lending me my first-grade textbooks."

"I'm not very well-educated, but I can manage to teach first and second grade. I teach them Chinese and math at home using their textbooks, which is a way to give them a basic education."

“Both my eldest and second child are quite smart and obedient, so I’ve been trying to teach them this way. Actually, I have a little trick.” She paused as she spoke.

"What techniques?" a military wife asked.

"It's normal for a child to like playing and not be able to sit still."

Indeed, the military wives nodded in agreement; playing is a child's nature.

“I don’t force them to study all the time. They can study for a while and then take a break. And if any of them do well, I will reward and praise them. Kids are like that; even a word of praise or a piece of candy makes them very happy.”

“That’s true.” The military wives present all nodded in agreement.

"This child, you can't just scold him, you have to praise him when he deserves it. Think about when we were kids, weren't we especially happy when our teachers or parents praised us for doing something?"

His words were simple and easy to understand, and they resonated with everyone.

While not every parent can teach their child at home, it's important not to constantly scold them. Appropriate praise helps them learn the lesson.

They put so much effort into teaching their children, and to say they abuse them at home is going too far.
