Chapter 12 Finding Li Huai

After finishing his phone call with his old comrade-in-arms, Li Aiguo saw that it was getting late and quickly packed his things to go home.

He made quite a few phone calls today to help Zhao Qinglan find someone.

It was fortunate that it was a government phone number, and that he was trying to help the suffering people, so he had nothing to hide.

Otherwise, making a phone call outside is not only inconvenient but also very expensive.

When he got home, his wife had already come home from get off work.

"Why are you so late today?" Sui Wenjing lifted the bowls off the plates one by one.

"Something came up. Zhao Qinglan came to see me today." Li Aiguo wiped his hands clean and sat down.

"Why is Qinglan looking for you?" Sui Wenjing asked curiously.

“It’s like this…” he began to tell his wife.

Sun Shengli paced back and forth, increasingly convinced that it was the right fit.

It's still unclear whether Li Huai is Zhao Qinglan's benefactor, although he feels it's highly likely.

"Can you stop wandering around? You're making me dizzy," Wu Mei complained, stopping her knitting.

"I know, I know, you old woman, all you do is nag all day long."

Before his wife could object, Sun Shengli had already excitedly stepped out the door.

Li Huai had just finished talking with his son and was feeling sentimental when he saw the regimental commander enter the room.

"Commander, what brings you here?" Li Huai immediately stood up.

"It's nothing, just chatting with you."

Since the Li family now consists of only Li Huai and his two sons, Sun Shengli made no attempt to hide anything and entered the house without even knocking.

Li Huai could only sit down and accompany him.

Looking inside, Sun Shengli lowered his voice and asked, "Are Yan Sen and Yan Xun alright?"

"It's alright, what could possibly happen to them?" Li Huai smiled.

“That’s true, father and son, father and son. They say brothers fight tigers together, and fathers and sons go to war together. It’s no big deal,” Sun Shengli muttered.

"Oh dear, look at my memory! Li Huai, let me ask you, have you ever saved a woman named Zhao Qinglan before?"

"Zhao Qinglan?" Li Huai clicked his tongue.

He usually had a good memory, but he had no recollection of this name. After racking his brains, he shook his head.

"No."

"Huh?" Sun Shengli quickly said, "Is it because it's been too long and you've forgotten? Think again, it was a few years ago."

After the commander said that, Li Huai could only try to think again, but still shook his head. "I really don't remember."

"You haven't really forgotten, have you?" Sun Shengli muttered.

Li Huai smiled helplessly. "Commander, saving people is definitely something that leaves a deep impression. Many people never experience it in their entire lives. If I had really saved someone, how could I not remember it?"

"That's true." Then wouldn't he no longer be someone's benefactor? Sun Shengli felt very regretful.

"Commander, why are you suddenly asking about this?" Li Huai asked, also curious.

This wasn't some secret that couldn't be told. Sun Shengli didn't mention his own ulterior motives, but only told the story of what his old comrade had inquired about.

"Perhaps it's a soldier with the same name as me," Li Huai said.

"Probably." After all, there are quite a few soldiers in the Northwest, and he can't possibly recognize them all.

Sun Shengli's enthusiasm for matchmaking was immediately dampened.

If there really is such a connection, he would definitely go to great lengths to bring the two of them together.

Without this intermediary connection, suddenly bringing together people from different places would lead to too many variables and twists and turns.

She went out excitedly, but returned dejected. Even though she had just argued with her husband, Wu Mei couldn't help but ask about it.

What's wrong with you now?

As an old married couple, Sun Shengli shared his thoughts.

Wu Mei burst out laughing.

"If everyone thinks so much and considers things like you, how will Li Huai find a partner anytime soon?"

While knitting a sweater, Wu Mei analyzed the situation for her husband.

"Given the current state of Li Huai's family, how can they possibly consider so many conditions? We were just worrying about this, and suddenly a suitable candidate has been presented to us. We should seize this opportunity. Whether he is suitable or not is not up to us."

After saying that, Wu Mei looked at the next room and lowered her voice, saying, "This kind of thing depends on what Li Huai and that female comrade think."

“Oh yeah.” Sun Shengli slapped his thigh.

According to my old comrade-in-arms, the woman named Zhao Qinglan is not doing well now.

Indeed, how is a woman who has just divorced and has a young child going to make a living?

Li Huai, at such a young age, is already a deputy regimental commander. His allowance is not low. While he may not be extremely wealthy, he can certainly support his family of several people without any problem.

Li Huai is anxious to find a wife who can take care of the family and children, and perhaps that woman is also anxious to find a husband who can support the family and protect her and her daughter.

Having figured it out, Sun Shengli decided to call his old comrade-in-arms again tomorrow to discuss the matter further.

He still knew that his old comrade-in-arms used the office phone.

As for their family, they have a telephone, but that's only because he's the regimental commander, and they were worried that they wouldn't be able to contact him in case of an emergency in the army.

Even the deputy regimental commander, like Li Huai's family next door, doesn't have a telephone at home.

In the family compound, only his family and Political Commissar Zhou Hai's family had telephones.

Once Sun Shengli made his decision, Li Aiguo also began to take action.

Sui Wenjing is a warm-hearted and caring person; otherwise, she wouldn't be able to do a job like women's director.

It's just that after working for so many years, coupled with the unfavorable economic environment in previous years, my enthusiasm for work has been worn down.

But now, because of Zhao Qinglan, she has rediscovered some of the passion she had when she first started working.

Li Aiguo was somewhat amused and exasperated as his wife pulled him out the door, but he was also happy inside.
