Chapter 11 Living Under the Same Roof
After all that trouble, we're back here.
Yu Yan felt like she was just being idle and had nothing better to do.
However, during this trip, she inadvertently learned about Uncle Yan's marital status and that he was still single without a female companion, which finally put Yu Yan at ease.
She has always kept her distance from men who are in relationships or are married.
Upon entering, Shao Muyan said to Yu Yan, "Go sit on the sofa for a while. I'll make something to eat. Take your medicine. After taking it, go upstairs and get a good night's sleep to sweat it out. You have to get up early for a meeting tomorrow."
Having learned her lesson, Yu Yan no longer dared to be overly polite to Shao Muyan and nodded in agreement.
Dinner was also excellent.
Vegetable and egg dumpling soup, stir-fried shredded potatoes with vinegar, and Longjing shrimp are all very appetizing.
After finishing her meal, Yu Yan felt more energetic, her face wasn't as pale as before, and she talked more and was less reserved.
Shao Muyan still had work to do.
After taking her medicine obediently, Yu Yan said goodnight and was about to go upstairs when Shao Muyan called out to her, "Yu Yan."
"Hmm?" Yu Yan turned around.
Shao Muyan stared intently at her, his gaze still so deep and sincere.
“I’m staying here with you because it’s close to the research institute, and I’m used to it and don’t want to move. This is your home, and I’m just staying here temporarily, so it’s only right that I cook for you and prepare things for you. You don’t need to feel burdened.”
"If you feel uncomfortable in any way, just tell me. Don't treat me like a guest, but don't treat me like an outsider either."
“…Okay.” After a long pause, Yu Yan nodded seriously.
—
ah……
Comfortable.
After washing up and returning to bed, covered by a warm blanket, Yu Yan felt completely relaxed, both physically and mentally.
I'm finally home.
When Yu Yan was a child, she didn't think of herself as a particularly homesick person. She was able to live independently at a young age. The nature of her family members' work meant that they couldn't spend much time with her, so she once longed for the warmth and harmony of a family.
What she couldn't obtain in her marriage was readily available to others.
In the world of emotions, there is never any fairness.
She had already accepted it.
During her three years abroad, the heavy academic workload and research required her to be on high alert, and her nerves were never relaxed. Now, lying in her childhood room, hugging her familiar pink lop-eared rabbit, and smelling the faint scent of laundry detergent on the blanket, the surrounding environment gave her a sense of security, and Yu Yan quickly fell asleep.
I slept until dawn.
When the alarm clock rang, Yu Yan shrank further into the blankets, reluctant to open her eyes.
I slept so well, I slept really soundly.
Yu Yan took her temperature after getting up; it was 36.5℃, and her fever had subsided.
She quickly washed up, intending to make breakfast while there was still time, but to her surprise, Shao Muyan was already in the kitchen when she got downstairs.
"Good morning, Uncle Yan."
Both stoves were running simultaneously, one for cooking porridge and the other for frying eggs. Shao Muyan had just deftly cracked another egg into the pan with one hand when he heard the sound, turned around, and smiled, "Good morning. Did you take your temperature?"
"I took her temperature, and her fever has gone down."
"good."
"Is there anything I can help with?" Yu Yan tied her hair up and rolled up her sleeves.
Shao Muyan pointed in a direction, "There are pickled vegetable dumplings in that jar. Professor Wang from next door brought them over. Take one out and cut it into strips."
Then he asked, "Can you cut it?"
"Yes." Yu Yan scooped one up and walked over to Shao Muyan. "Uncle Yan, let me get the kitchen knife."
Shao Muyan subconsciously moved back, and Yu Yan leaned forward, almost bumping into each other, and they both laughed.
With the cleaver in hand, everything was ready.
Soon, the kitchen was filled with the rhythmic sound of chopping vegetables. Half a pickled vegetable was neatly chopped into shreds by Yu Yan.
Shao Muyan glanced back and said, "Not bad knife skills."
Yu Yan smiled broadly.
Shao Muyan was slightly taken aback: he hadn't seen Yu Yan so spirited and bright in a long time.
