Chapter 109 Variables

"Pfft!" Gu Bai spat out a mouthful of water, looking at Fu Wenzhou sitting on the sofa looking very distressed, his face full of shock: "What did you say? Song Qingyou proposed to you?"

As he spoke, he reached out and touched Fu Wenzhou's forehead, saying in surprise, "He doesn't have a fever!"

Fu Wenzhou's face was tense. He reached out and slapped Gu Bai's hand away, his brows furrowed deeply.

Xu Zezhan took a drag of his cigarette. He was better able to control his emotions than Gu Bai and could still speak calmly: "You should be happy that she proposed to you. Why do you look so bitter and resentful?"

Fu Wenzhou's handsome face grew increasingly gloomy, his expression shifting several times, and he remained silent with a dark face.

Gu Bai still couldn't believe it. Could Song Qingyou, with her aloof and reserved personality, really propose to Fu Wenzhou? Besides, he had just returned to the country two days ago and told her about Yun Fang's situation. How could this be…?

The more he thought about it, the more outrageous it seemed, especially when he saw Fu Wenzhou's face, which looked like the whole world owed him eight million. He couldn't believe it: "Isn't your dream in this life to marry the youngest daughter of the Song family? If she really proposed to you, would you still have this expression?"

"I'm not of legal marriage age yet!"

Fu Wenzhou suddenly let out a howl, his eyes wide with anger, his lips twitching slightly as if he was trying his best to suppress his emotions. His bloodshot eyes shot out two cold beams of light, and one could vaguely detect a bit of resentment and annoyance in his eyes.

Five days have passed since Song Qingyou blurted out "Let's get married" that day. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve. He spent the five days in a daze until Song Qingyou went out today. Only then did he call Gu Bai and Xu Zezhan to discuss countermeasures.

Gu Bai and Xu Zezhan were stunned for several seconds before bursting into laughter at the same time.

The laughter sounded incredibly sarcastic to Fu Wenzhou.

He said coldly, "If you laugh again, you can all get out."

Xu Zezhan tried hard to suppress his laughter, his voice trembling slightly as he tried to hold it in: "Well, I'm not laughing. I've forgotten that our Zhouzhou is still a child, hahaha..."

Fu Wenzhou: "..."

He took a deep breath. "Get out!"

Gu Bai quickly said, "No, okay? We won't laugh anymore."

Seeing that Fu Wenzhou looked terrible, Xu Zezhan coughed a few times and said, "Isn't it almost Chinese New Year? You'll be 22 after the New Year."

Fu Wenzhou's knuckles slowly turned white as he gripped the water glass, his brows twitching slightly: "Xu Zezhan, are you an idiot? It has to be after your birthday!"

His birthday is still seven months away.

Seven whole months!

Gu Bai and Xu Zezhan were obviously aware of this as well.

The two looked at each other and saw the effort in each other's eyes to suppress laughter.

Xu Zezhan covered his lips, trying to hide his barely suppressed smirk from Fu Wenzhou: "Then just wait a little longer. There are only seven months left anyway, what's the rush?"

Fu Wenzhou flew into a rage at the mention of waiting, like a furious lion. "I've waited for her for over ten years, and it took me three years to finally accept me. Now I have to wait another seven months. Do you know how many things can change in those seven months? What if Youyou falls for someone else, or what if she doesn't want to marry me anymore after a while?"

Five days ago, when Fu Wenzhou heard the words "Let's get married," he fell off the bed, feeling both disheveled and excited. However, before he could even feel happy, he was hit hard by the cruel reality.

Fu Wenzhou even considered altering his age on his household registration, but Song Qingyou nipped the idea in the bud.

The marriage was thus abandoned.

The dim, luxurious lighting in the bar's private room cast a shadow on Fu Wenzhou's face, revealing his deep and handsome features despite his sinister expression.

Xu Zezhan flicked his cigarette ash and said, "Just wait and see. Good things take time. Besides, you're always clinging to Song Qingyou like she's her food. Who would dare mess with her? Don't think too much about it."

After laughing, Gu Bai suddenly fell silent, half of his face hidden in the darkness. He silently took a sip of wine and looked at Fu Wenzhou: "Wenzhou, I have a question for you."

Fu Wenzhou was very annoyed and said impatiently, "Spit it out if you have something to say."

Gu Bai straightened his expression. "Hypothetically speaking, hypothetically speaking, what if we can't find Yun Fang, or Yun Fang is already dead..."

Before he could finish speaking, he was stopped by Fu Wenzhou's cold gaze, and the rest of his words were swallowed back down his throat.

Gu Bai had no doubt that if eyes were knives, he would have been torn to pieces by Fu Wenzhou just now.

He pursed his lips, his expression unusually serious: "You're only 21. You have so much life ahead of you. The joy of youth may just be a fleeting infatuation. You'll meet many people in the future. Does it have to be her?"

"Yes." Fu Wenzhou's eyes were full of certainty. No one was more certain of this than himself. He picked up his wine glass, then remembered Song Qingyou's instructions not to touch cigarettes or alcohol until his injuries healed. He slowly put it down, his tone was calm, but it was resounding in the dark night: "It has to be her."

Gu Bai was stunned for a moment, then seemed to give in and sighed helplessly.

He should have known.

Fu Wenzhou keenly sensed that something was wrong with Gu Bai. He narrowed his eyes, his voice low and dangerous, like a lurking beast: "Is there any news about Yun Fang?"

Gu Bai's heart skipped a beat, and he struggled to maintain a calm demeanor: "No, there's no news at all."

Fu Wenzhou glanced at him twice, and seeing that his expression was normal, he snorted coldly: "Useless."

Useless Gu Bai: I really want to beat him up.

Fu Wenzhou picked up his cane and used it to stand up: "I'm leaving."

Xu Zezhan raised an eyebrow: "So early?"

"Hmm." Fu Wenzhou put on his coat. He was in good health and recovered quickly. In another half month, he would be able to get rid of his wheelchair and crutches. "We have a curfew at home."
