Brother's wife
Mu Han looked at his father coldly and asked, "What did you say?"
His father lowered his eyes and said in a low voice: "I didn't agree."
Silence filled the office for half the night before Mu Han slowly spoke, "Please hold off on asking for help. It seems we can't rely on Lu Zhizhi anymore. I'll go find Ji Xingyuan tomorrow to see if he can lend us a hand."
His father nodded, his tone filled with tired relief: "Just do your best. If it really doesn't work... then forget it."
Mu Han agreed seriously, stood up and left the company.
The next morning, Mu Han stood downstairs at Ji Xingyuan's company, took a deep breath, and walked in slowly. Not long after the front desk announced it, someone came to lead him upstairs. He paused at the office door, catching his breath before pushing it open—only to see Lu Zhizhi sitting on the sofa next to him, Ji Lu nestled in his arms, playing with building blocks, while Ji Xingyuan sat at his desk, processing documents.
Ji Lu was sharp-eyed. As soon as he saw Mu Han, he immediately slid off Lu Zhizhi, ran to him with his short legs, hugged his legs, and called out in a baby voice, "Handsome brother! You finally came to see Xiao Lu. Xiao Lu missed you so much!"
Mu Han's heart softened, and he slowly squatted down and picked him up. Lu Zhizhi's eyes were fixed on him, with undisguised tenderness, but Mu Han pretended not to notice and strode to Ji Xingyuan with Ji Lu in his arms.
"Mr. Ji." He nodded.
Ji Xingyuan raised his eyes and raised his hand politely: "Please sit down."
As soon as Mu Han sat down, Lu Zhizhi moved a stool from the side and sat down next to him. His attitude was so intimate that Mu Han felt a little uncomfortable.
Ji Xingyuan spoke first, breaking the silence: "Mr. Mu, is there something you want to talk about?"
Mu Han glanced at Lu Zhizhi beside him, then turned to Ji Xingyuan and said politely, "Mr. Ji, could you please ask Mr. Lu to step aside for a moment?"
Ji Xingyuan looked at Lu Zhizhi with a meaningful smile on his face: "I can't make the decision on this. You have to talk to him yourself."
Mu Han pursed his lips, and ultimately did not look at Lu Zhizhi again, and said directly: "Forget it, it's not something shameful. I guess Mr. Ji has also heard about our Mu family's situation?"
Ji Xingyuan nodded, his tone calm, "I've heard a little bit about it. But I don't have the final say on this matter. If you really want my help, you have to ask Lu Zhizhi first."
Mu Han suddenly looked at Lu Zhizhi, his eyes full of confusion: "Why do I have to get his consent?"
"Ji Corporation is his mother's business," Ji Xingyuan explained. "I just help manage it. The one who really has the final say is Mr. Lu."
Mu Han's heart skipped a beat. He carefully put Ji Lu on the ground, stood up, and said in a distant tone: "Sorry to bother you. I'll leave first."
"Hanhan," Lu Zhizhi immediately stood up and called him, "We can talk."
Mu Han paused, looked back at him, and said coldly: "No need, Mr. Lu's conditions are unacceptable to me."
After saying that, he turned and left without any reluctance.
Back home, Mu Han paced the living room in frustration. Over the next few days, he tried to find connections to help the Mu family through their difficult times, but everyone shied away, unwilling to get involved. Lu Zhizhi sent him messages every day, but he didn't respond to a single one.
In the middle of the night, Mu Han had just fallen asleep when his phone suddenly rang sharply. He fumbled with his phone and saw it was his mother's number. He woke up instantly and picked up the phone immediately: "Mom? What's wrong?"
The mother's sobbing voice came from the other end of the phone: "Hanhan, come to the hospital quickly! Your father...he is sick!"
Mu Han's heart tightened, and he grabbed his coat and rushed out. When he arrived at the hospital, his father was still in a coma. His mother, with red eyes, told him, "The doctor said he fainted from overwork. They also found kidney stones, and he needs surgery."
Mu Han gently patted his mother's back and comforted her in a warm voice: "Mom, don't worry too much, Dad will be fine."
At this time, the attending doctor came over and said to Mu Han, "The surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Your family members should be mentally prepared."
After the doctor arranged everything, Mu Han asked his mother to lie down in the lounge next door for a while, while he stayed in the ward all night without sleeping until the operation was over the next day.
After his father woke up, he was still weak. Mu originally wanted to stay and take care of him, but his mother insisted that he go home and rest: "You haven't slept a wink these past few days. Go back and get some sleep. I'm here for you." Mu Han had no choice but to compromise. Han Yi was still busy dealing with the company's mess and couldn't spare any time.
As soon as he reached the bottom of the hospital building, he ran into Lu Zhizhi. The other party blocked his way. Mu Han frowned and asked impatiently: "What's the matter?"
"You didn't get enough rest yesterday, so you must be tired, right?" Lu Zhizhi's voice was filled with concern.
"This is my business, it has nothing to do with you." Mu Han turned sideways to avoid him, "I have something else to do, I'll leave first."
"Hanhan," Lu Zhizhi hurriedly grabbed him, "Xiao Lu is sick, with a high fever that won't go away. He keeps crying and wants to see you, saying he won't take medicine unless you come."
Mu Han paused, feeling somewhat reluctant: "Where is he?"
Lu Zhizhi led him to the door of Ji Lu's ward. When he opened the door, he saw Ji Lu lying on the bed with a flushed face. When he saw Mu Han, tears immediately welled up in his eyes. He choked and shouted, "Handsome brother... I miss you so much..."
Mu Han walked over distressedly, sat down beside the bed, and gently hugged him in his arms: "Little Lu, don't cry, brother is here."
Ji Lu hugged his neck tightly and cried for a long time before he gradually calmed down. Mu Han saw the uneaten medicine on the bedside table, so he let go of him and picked up the medicine and warm water: "Come, let's take the medicine."
As soon as Ji Lu saw the medicine, he immediately covered his mouth and shook his head desperately: "No! It's bitter!"
Mu Han patiently coaxed him softly, "Xiao Lu, be obedient. You'll get better only after taking the medicine, okay?"
"But it's really bitter..." Ji Lu pursed his lips and tears were about to fall again.
"After you take the medicine, I'll buy you some candy, okay?" Mu Han softened his tone.
"No candy." Ji Lu shook her head, and suddenly looked at him seriously, and said in a baby voice, "I want my handsome brother to become Brother Lu's wife, so that I can be with my brother every day!"
Mu Han's smile froze, and he rubbed his hair helplessly: "Xiao Lu, stop talking nonsense, change your wish."
Lu Zhizhi originally held a glimmer of hope, but when he heard this, his heart sank instantly, and the light in his eyes dimmed a little.
