Chapter 158 Shocking, Grandma's Twilight Love

Guan Yan wrote down a number on the paper, which was much higher than expected.

The two looked at each other for a moment, then simultaneously looked away.

Ruan Xianxian raised an eyebrow and smiled as she took the voucher. In this way, the price of the clothing and candy factories could not be lower than that of the textile factory, otherwise, she would make a scene.

After folding the notebook, Ruan Xianxian said goodbye to Guan Yan, "Sister Yan, I'll be staying in the provincial capital for a few more days. I'll be visiting your house for dinner in a few days. I'll be sure to trouble your uncle and aunt then."

"You are welcome anytime."

As the exhibition ended, the staff from each factory still had to clean up the site. After going to the second floor, Ruan Xianxian, who had come to save on car trips for her grandmother, drove back to the hotel.

That night, amidst the chaotic dance of foreign guests, she slept soundly until dawn.

After washing up and having dinner at the restaurant, I heard that the foreign guests' party had just ended a few hours earlier, and they would be taking the train back to Beijing early the next morning.

Ruan Xianxian thought for a moment, then decided not to disturb Xiaxia and Zhaodi. After finishing her meal, she drove alone to the train station and waited for about an hour to pick up her grandmother.

The old lady still had a full head of white hair, but her spirits were much better than when she was on the farm.

Wearing a long work jacket and straight-leg trousers with side slits, the moment Ruan Xianxian saw her grandmother, she opened her arms and rushed over, giving the little old lady a big hug.

"Grandma, I miss you."

The little head rubbed against Grandma's chest, taking deep breaths until it smelled the familiar scent of soapberry, and finally felt at ease.

Yan Fenghua didn't mind that her granddaughter still loved to act spoiled, just like when she was a child. She simply patted her granddaughter's back gently with her hands, which had been used for years of hard work.

“My son has suffered all these years.”

Is it bitter? Having tasted all the bitterness and sweetness in her past life, Ruan Xianxian felt a lump in her throat after losing her grandmother.

She straightened up and took her grandmother's warm, dry hand in hers. "It's worth it to exchange years of hardship for a lifetime of never smiling."

It didn't budge...

Two tries, and it still wouldn't budge...

Although Ruan Xianxian held her grandmother's hand without exerting any force, she found that her grandmother was standing still without moving.

She turned around suspiciously and saw her grandmother looking awkwardly at the figure behind her, where a tall, straight old man stood.

The old man was about sixty years old, and his figure was tall and upright for his age. When he noticed Ruan Xianxian looking at him, he gave her a sincere and polite smile.

Carrying two suitcases, he walked over in a few steps, bent down and put the suitcases on the ground, wiped his large hands on his shirt and stretched them out in front of Ruan Xianxian.

"Hello, I am Comrade Yan's revolutionary comrade-in-arms. My surname is Xie, and my given name is Zheng. I am from Beijing. I hope my sudden arrival has not caused you any trouble."

Revolutionary comrades? Did she understand that meaning?

Ruan Xianxian stretched out her hand with a blank face, but when she met her grandmother's expression that said, "If you dare to have any objections, I'll beat you to death, you little brat," she instantly smiled broadly.

"Grandpa, may I call you that?"

Xie Zheng paused for a moment, looked at Yan Fenghua, and then smiled.

This granddaughter was indeed as interesting as Fenghua had described. It took her son a full year to accept their relationship, and the smile on his face became even more genuine.

He pulled a finely polished wooden bracelet from his pocket and stuffed it into Ruan Xianxian's palm without saying a word.

"After spending so much time on the farm, I've become quite poor. These little gadgets I made myself are a gift from your grandfather to you. Please don't find them offensive."

Ruan Xianxian was about to say why she would dislike it, but as soon as she put the wooden bracelet in her hand, she felt that the weight was wrong. When she met her grandmother's meaningful look, she understood that there was something special inside the wooden bracelet.

The station staff glanced at the passersby, and seeing only a broken wooden bracelet, they chuckled inwardly and looked away.

The girl was leaning against a big car, thinking the old man might bring out something good, but that was it?

“I don’t mind at all, I like it very much. Grandpa and Grandma, please get in the car first.” Ruan Xianxian thought for a moment, then opened the back seat and helped Yan Fenghua into the car first, while she put their luggage in the passenger seat.

The car door closed, and the car sped away.

After driving for a while, Grandma could no longer contain her excitement, "My son, did you really meet your great-uncle in Heilongjiang Province? Is he round or flat? Is he in good health?"

Ruan Xianxian glanced at her agitated grandmother, then turned back, her voice tinged with sarcasm, "Whether I'm round or flat, you haven't been this concerned about me since we met."

Is this what they mean by "familiarity breeds contempt"?

Yan Fenghua sneered, crossed her arms in front of her chest, and if Xie Zheng hadn't stopped her, she would have already kicked him.

"Far away, good; nearby, bad? You dare stick your head out here, and I'll tell you how bad it is... Let go, don't pull me, aren't you asking me to care about her?"

"Okay! First tell Grandma who that energetic young man who was running around the county town is."

"Haven't seen you in a few days, and you've gone from a bicycle to a Jeep. And who taught you to drive?"

Seeing that she was about to continue, Ruan Xianxian immediately softened her tone, "Grandma!"

The old lady raised her eyebrows and gave Xie Zheng a smug look. See? This is my little darling, my own granddaughter. Everyone else is just like hers.

Xie Zheng's skin tightened, and he revealed a fawning expression.

Grandma stopped asking questions, and Ruan Xianxian breathed a sigh of relief. She also had time to think about this new grandfather. Did such a person exist in her past life?

If so, why didn't she see it when she went to the farm to prepare her grandmother's body for burial?

Look at that familiar face, it doesn't seem like we just met!

In her heart, she didn't mind her grandmother having a late-life romance; in fact, she supported it. Who would want a big idiot like Ruan Kangri to keep her?

I just wonder what Grandpa Xie's position is?

She didn't care about that. As long as her grandmother was happy, she could support both of them, even if the grandmother was unemployed. She was just afraid that after returning to Beijing, Grandpa Xie would be bullied to death by the old man Ruan, who was in a final burst of energy.
