Chapter 230 Partners

As the jeep drove back to the village, the guy kept feeling like he'd forgotten something, until the car passed the state-run restaurant.

She happily got off the bus and bought a lunchbox of steamed buns.

I finally feel much more at ease; it turns out I just forgot to feed my stomach!

The "troublemaker squad" left behind in the county office: ? ? ?

"Just park the car here. Go to the educated youth settlement and help me pack a few pieces of luggage."

Fan Caicai looked at the burial mound that appeared at the end of her line of sight, raised an eyebrow and tilted her head, "Are you sure your outside help is here?"

Ruan Xianxian nodded firmly.

The liaison officer really didn't want to see her for even a second longer. He opened and closed the car door, turned the steering wheel, and drove off in a flash.

The car hadn't gone fifty meters when a heart-wrenching wail suddenly came from behind: "Second Uncle, help!"

Fan Caicai: ? ? ?

He accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake...

Since he's already stepped on it, let it go. Maybe this is just his little boss's unique way of venting?

He can just pretend he doesn't know!

Ruan Xianxian sat on a small hill not far from the grave, crying from dawn till dusk, a kind of loud, empty cry that never actually came out. When she got tired of crying, she would eat a few steamed buns.

The conspicuous appearance of the bag finally caught the attention of some creatures in the back mountains, who then summoned the weasels that roamed freely across the mountain.

As darkness fell, Ruan Xianxian saw two powerful figures, one in yellow and one in white, walking slowly toward her, and burst into tears again.

"Second Uncle, save me!"

Seeing how pitiful she looked with her red nose, the little weasel darted over to Ruan Xianxian and jumped onto her shoulder, wiping away her tears with its paws.

"Don't cry. Who bullied you? Tell me, and your second uncle will stand up for you."

Ruan Xianxian sobbed as she recounted the mission she was to undertake and the strangeness of the place to her second uncle.

Not far away, a hedgehog bigger than her head stood quietly in place.

After hearing the whole story, the weasel's large, furry face turned slightly serious as it looked back at the hedgehog.

"White-naked, does the method she described seem somewhat familiar?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a woman's voice came into his ears, "I don't feel anything. The girl's description is too vague."

"To have devoured half the villagers in an instant, and to have forced their spirits out and exposed them to the naked eye—that's beyond my comprehension."

Ruan Xianxian's heart skipped a beat.

This must be the "White Milk" that the second uncle mentioned. The other party said it was beyond their comprehension. Will she still be alive to come back?

Just as my heart sank to the bottom, I heard the weasel sigh and say, "Is it possible that her story is exaggerated?"

White milk: ? ? ?

No matter how the two asked, Ruan Xianxian kept repeating the same thing; that's what the liaison officer had told her.

Villagers and soldiers disappeared in the mountains in the same way, and the wandering spirits of the dead returned to the village in the middle of the night. Is there a problem with repeating this story?

She looked at the two men pitifully, "Second Uncle, I'm not afraid of a dragon or a missile, but I'm most afraid of ghosts. You'll protect me, right?"

As she said this, she held tightly to her second uncle's leg with one hand.

The little paw patted her, "Let go of me first."

Then he muttered to himself, "I knew it. Even if I hid deep in the mountains, I still couldn't escape."

Ruan Xianxian: "What do you mean?"

The weasel forcefully pulled its hind legs away from her grip, saying, "Do you remember that day at the restaurant, someone told me not to travel far, or my life would be in danger?"

"I hid deep in the mountains after I came back, but I still couldn't escape you, my ancestor."

"Who exactly is that old man?" Ruan Xianxian asked.

This time, the weasel finally answered her, "A descendant of a shaman."

Thinking of the old man's earnest advice that day, Ruan Xianxian wiped her snot bubble, stood up, bent down, patted her best friend's little head, and chuckled:

"I'm leaving now. I'll definitely make good on my promise to you about the whole chicken feast when I get back. Wait for me."

Watching her hurried departure, the weasel took two steps after her, "Where are you going? Didn't you want me to protect you?"

Ruan Xianxian waved her hand behind her without turning her head.

Even without the old man's words that day, Ruan Xianxian, who possessed a system space and felt confident that she could protect her people in times of crisis, insisted on taking her second uncle along.

But given the old man's prophecy and knowing the dangers ahead, she would never allow her friend to take the risk with her.

At this moment, Bai Nai called out to her. Her voice was not old, but rather pleasant and clear.

"Take him with you. Huang Er isn't afraid to die. If he perishes because of helping you, you must promise to help him accumulate merit for the rest of your life. Girl, what do you say?"

Ruan Xianxian stopped and turned around. The crazy, tearful expression on her face was gone, replaced by a smile full of the sincerity unique to a girl her age.

"Miss Bai, I'll call you that too."

Huang Er calls me a friend, and even knowing there's danger involved, I wouldn't let my friend risk their life for me, even if there's only a one in ten thousand chance.

Do you eat chicken? Come over to my place with Huang Er when I get back! I'm off now, see you later.

Watching her departing footsteps, neither the weasel nor the white-haired girl chased after her. It wasn't until she had completely descended the mountain and reached the village that the weasel became extremely anxious.

"White Milk, why won't you let me go with her? She's the only human who's willing to be my friend."

The little weasel was so anxious that it kept spinning in circles.

The hedgehog glanced at him. "What's the rush? I'm just testing that girl. If she's willing to sacrifice you because of my own predicament, then I'm not a friend for her."

"Now? Can I leave now? My friend is a good person. She was willing to give up killing the entire Hu family for me. If there is any danger, I will go with her."

White milk: ? ? ?

A simple-minded guy.

Watching Huang Er chase after her with all four limbs, I hope his friend won't betray this friendship.
