Chapter 25 The Talking Scalper

"Come over here and let's talk." Ye Guo was in such a hurry that he didn't have time to settle the educated youth. After telling them to go into the room and find their own beds, he pulled his younger brother aside to talk.

The group looked at each other in bewilderment. Ruan Xianxian released the goose to let it get used to the new environment before pushing open the door to the room on the left.

The goose flapped its wings and landed, startling Chen Zhaodi. Mu Xia facepalmed!

The room was quite large; the original two rooms had been combined to create an inner and outer room. A fire was burning in the outer room, and girls' undergarments were hanging on a rope.

Lifting the straw curtain, you can see a heated kang (a traditional Chinese bed-stove) against the wall in the inner room, with four cabinets placed at the end of the kang.

A statue of the eldest son sits on a kang table, unwashed bowls lie on a square wooden table, and wardrobes are placed against the wall on all four sides. The walls are mottled and exactly the same as in the previous life.

Nguyen has lived in this house for three years.

Unsurprisingly, lying on the kang (a heated brick bed) was an older woman whose clothes were covered in patches. She sat up halfway, and her smiling face suddenly fell when she saw Mu Xia's large physique...

With a half-smile, he said, "You must be new educated youth. Let me make this clear: everything in this room was originally provided by the other children, so you can't touch it."

"Auntie! You're also... an educated youth?" Chen Zhaodi's tone was not very confident.

"Oh! No way!" The aunt spat into her palm, smoothed her stray hairs, and said, "I'm Liu Xiatian's mother. I came to see my daughter."

"Hey! Your beds are over there, make yourselves."

After saying that, he lay down again, ignoring the others, who looked at each other in bewilderment.

There were already four female educated youths living in this room, plus Liu's mother, making a total of five.

There were three bunks left, enough for three people to sleep in, but Mu Xia's large size clearly couldn't fit them all, so there wasn't enough room for them to sleep.

"It's alright! You guys go ahead and pack." It's better if there are no beds available; Mu Xia plans to talk to the team leader later.

She should try to build her own room to live in alone. She has money and doesn't need to squeeze into a dormitory with others.

Ruan Xianxian glanced at her, but instead of tidying up her bedding, she walked to her luggage and started pulling out hemp ropes, one, two, three...

Mu Xia's lips twitched at the sight. "What are you doing?"

Only Chen Zhaodi dutifully began fetching water and cleaning her berth.

"It's okay! I'll play!" Ruan Xianxian sat on the luggage, her hands crossed and fiddling with the hemp rope, seemingly trying to weave a net.

"What are you all eating?" Chen Zhaodi, who had been busy running around, suddenly had a rumbling stomach. The sound was quite loud, and she blushed as she hurriedly asked everyone what they wanted to eat.

Ruan Xianxian had just eaten a big bowl of noodles at the educated youth office and wasn't hungry yet.

Mu Xia thought for a moment, opened her luggage and took out two pieces of steamed rice cake wrapped in oil paper. "I'll just eat a little to fill my stomach."

Chen Zhaodi took out a coarse flour pancake from her bosom and ate it in small bites. The three of them did not offer each other any special treatment, and no one said they were taking advantage of the other.

The moment the aroma of pastries wafted into the room, Liu's mother, who had been feigning death on the bed, sat up and started sniffling.

"Wow! This smells so good, honey, let me break off a piece and have a taste."

"What a big face." Mu Xia sneered, "Do you want my big hand?"

“I have poop,” Ruan Xianxian replied, “poop that’s been fermenting for four days.”

Chen Zhaodi looked at this and then that, and said in a low voice, "I, I only have urine."

"Hahaha!" The three girls burst into laughter at the same time, as melodious as silver bells, which infuriated Liu's mother: "You, you have no respect for your elders and you are going too far."

Believe it or not, I'll go to the educated youth office and report you to the leaders.

"Let's go!" Mu Xia grabbed Ruan Xianxian and tapped her pretty face with her chin. "See this sister? She just came back from the educated youth office after unfurling a banner."

Go early, the boss might still be there.

"Now that the person in charge is here, I can ask him: 'What gives you the audacity to occupy resources that rightfully belong to us, a relative of a sent-down youth?'"

Liu's mother was frightened. Just then, Ye Guo's call came from outside, telling them to go to the brigade to collect their grain. Liu's mother quickly buried her head back under the covers.

Ye Guo stood in the courtyard, seemingly in a good mood, especially since his gaze lingered on Ruan Xianxian for a moment. Mu Xia frowned and asked:

"Have you put all your money away safely?"

They were noticeably more friendly towards her than when she arrived. Ruan Xianxian patted her small waist bag and said, "Everything's here, don't worry!"

"You'd better use your brain!"

As they walked out of the educated youth settlement, three men and three women were followed by a large, waddling black goose. The unusual combination attracted the attention of many villagers who had finished work early.

The villagers no longer find educated youth as rare as they did a few years ago. Originally, who wouldn't like a fair-skinned, eloquent child from the city?

After a few years, the educated youth resorted to incredibly dirty methods to return to the city, including seduction, drugging, and framing... they went to any lengths.

The educated youth's perception of the villagers was similar. Some families, in order to marry a city girl, would try to take advantage of the educated youth, doing things like dragging them into the woods, spreading rumors, and deliberately pushing female comrades into the water to create physical intimacy...

The relationship between the two has become so strained that they dislike each other.

The villagers watched from afar, commenting and gossiping. Ye Guo deliberately walked beside Ruan Xianxian, pointed to the black goose behind her, and asked with a smile:

"Is this the reserve food you brought?"

No sooner had he finished speaking than the goose pounced up and bit Ye Guo's soft thigh, spinning around in circles. Ye Guo let out a miserable scream.

Although he didn't look, he was certain that the inner thigh was swollen. He kept rubbing it and cursing, "Goose doesn't understand, why curse Ruan Xianxian? It's not like she bit me, I'm so angry!"

"Don't tease him." Ruan Xianxian patted the goose's head, and as a reward, took out a cornmeal and vegetable dumpling made with spiritual spring water from her pouch and fed it to the goose, saying:

"He's very intelligent and fiercely protective of his master!"

Ye Guo was speechless. What did he mean? Let Ruan Xianxian beat up the goose? She clearly rewarded that beast.

Chen Zhaodi was scared, but Mu Xia's eyes lit up as she asked, "Can I touch it?"

“Go ahead and touch me!” Ruan Xianxian nodded with a smile, “But he might not let you touch me, so be careful.”

Mu Xia stopped and tentatively reached out to touch the goose's head, but the goose glanced at her and walked away!

Looking at her empty palms, Mu Xia felt a little regretful but didn't force it.

They chatted and laughed all the way and soon arrived at the brigade headquarters, where the old village chief, the village party secretary, the brigade leader, and the accountant were all present.

The accountant pointed to the notebook on the table, "After you sign, take the grain away. It's all packed up against the wall."

The five people moved quickly. After Mu Xia finished collecting her grain and wanted to have a private chat with the brigade leader, Ruan Xianxian was staring at a yellow ox by the cowshed at the brigade headquarters.

Scalper: [Another beautiful two-legged creature came along. Where's the one just as beautiful? Oh, she seems to be dead. She bled a lot; I had to take her to the hospital.]

Ruan Xianxian's eyes widened, "Oh my god! Besides the goose, the pig is talking too! Ah! Ahhh!"

Scalper: [What is she yelling about? Also, the brigade leader clearly said I'm a cow, not a pig!]

As soon as Mu Xia came out with the captain, she was greeted by Ruan Xianxian, who rushed up to her and desperately tried to burrow into her arms. "What's wrong?"

"There are crickets flying in the sky, no, I mean the goats went down to the river... Oh, none of that, the old sow ran away wearing Li Dajiao's flowery shorts..."
