"Talk to the political commissar about procurement? Doesn't our regiment have logistics support?"
At first glance, the man with glasses doesn't seem like a good person.
Perhaps it's a case of like attracts like; with just one glance, Ruan Xianxian was pretty sure that the guy was glancing around everywhere, his eyes looking like he was looking for trouble.
As she looked over, the other person also happened to look over, and Qian Wei waved and called out, "Old Wu, come here for a second."
Political Commissar Wu walked over with a smile, his hands behind his back, looking Ruan Xianxian up and down, and called out her name, "Comrade Ruan, it's a pleasure to meet you!"
Qian Wei whispered to her, "Nothing, big or small, in this regiment escapes the political commissar's keen eyes."
"Hmm?" Wu Fangkai, who was sharp-eared and sharp-eyed, raised his eyebrows. Qian Wei immediately corrected himself, "It was Fayan, a slip of the tongue."
He recounted the deal that Ruan Xianxian had reached with the head of the state-run vegetable market.
As expected of a political commissar, Qian Wei didn't notice anything amiss. He quickly figured it out and nodded to the former, "Go ahead and get busy. I'll talk to Comrade Ruan."
Qian Wei did need to change his clothes. He had been soaking in the water all afternoon, which was exhausting, and when he got ashore, he was still wearing wet clothes. The strong April wind was biting right into his bones.
"Deputy Regiment Commander Qian, come over early tonight for the pork stew and braised river fish."
Qian Wei grinned, didn't turn around, and waved his hand behind him.
After he left, Political Commissar Wu accompanied Ruan Xianxian toward the camp, his question hitting the nail on the head: "How many kilograms of fish do we need to buy each day, and how many eggs do we need to exchange for them?"
He clearly saw through the truth behind the deal, and Ruan Xianxian had also developed the ability to speak to people in a way that suited them.
Dealing with a political commissar, a man of principle who's always looking out for himself, is a different story altogether. Sincerity is the only surefire way to win.
So she told them about how the farmland in several nearby villages had been flooded, how the commune had organized fishing to sell to the market, and how it was later discovered that supply exceeded demand.
"At first, the person in charge just wanted to sell us the fish without giving anything in return, but there's no such thing as a free lunch."
Just because we're soldiers serving the people doesn't mean we can bully others. My brother is kind-hearted, but his abilities don't match his kindness.
When we were discussing the deal, I made a condition to him: the eggs from the daily market must be prioritized for the group, along with 700 jin of fish and 200-300 eggs.
Wu Fangkai was surprised, seemingly not expecting Ruan Xianxian to tell the truth. Whether it was hearsay or his own observation, the woman was probably a little sly.
He thought she would deceive him in the same way she had deceived Qian Wei.
After a moment's thought, he nodded in agreement. "Tomorrow, you'll have to go through the trouble of going with me again and bring back the fish and eggs. Don't forget to get the receipts from the market and give them to me to sign."
"It's not hard work at all! The market promised to give me a bonus if they get things done!"
"Political Commissar, considering how much effort I've put into running around for you, could you grant me a small request?"
Ruan Xianxian's big eyes curved into a smile, and she gestured with two fingers to indicate her nipples.
Wu Fangkai was even more surprised. She had even openly admitted to having a bonus. He smiled knowingly.
"Go ahead! I'll consider your request if it's not excessive."
I was curious about what she wanted. Did she want another bonus to have it both ways?
To his surprise, Ruan Xianxian's request was even more unexpected: "Could the distribution of the eggs we received in exchange be decided by our kitchen?"
"The number was not large to begin with. I want people to know who is working for the benefit of everyone after I do good deeds. I am a person who is ambitious for fame and fortune and has a little bit of a desire for officialdom."
After saying that, he chuckled to himself!
She never shied away from her own shortcomings, liked being pampered, liked everyone to focus their attention on her, and greedily absorbed all the warmth the world gave her.
"No problem, you can allocate the egg quota."
The young girl openly revealed her little secret, which not only didn't annoy him, but also reminded him of Qian Wei's suggestion to "run errands for the political commissar," and he asked:
"Comrade Ruan, are you interested in developing your career in the military? I can tell that you really like the atmosphere in the army."
As the sun sets, a tall man and a young man stand side by side on the riverbank amidst the raging torrents. Beneath their feet are the surging waters and soldiers, shirtless, shouting slogans and working together in unison.
Ruan Xianxian's heart skipped a beat for a moment, but she quickly regained her senses and shook her head with a wry smile. "Thank you for your kind offer, but I'm not suitable."
Although the atmosphere in the military was good, she couldn't stand the discipline.
She rubbed her hands together. "But I can be an unofficial member. If I come across any usable supplies while out there, I'll think of our group first. I'll just give you a bonus as compensation."
Since her rebirth, she has emptied the Ruan family's coffers and trampled her enemies underfoot. Her only goal seems to be to make money to buy a space with a spiritual spring as soon as possible, and then retire peacefully.
But she found herself not very enthusiastic; it was actually Mr. Feng's invitation that made her have higher expectations.
Her personality is not one to be content with the status quo. Compared to a mundane life, she prefers to stir things up, enjoy thrills and excitement, and revel in the limelight.
Wu Fangkai lowered his eyes and saw a bright light shining in the eyes of the woman who seemed to have figured something out. Her large hand, hanging by her side, clenched into a fist. He liked it so much.
No way! When I get back from controlling the floods, I must have another child with my wife, a smart and straightforward girl like her!
Her smile softened unconsciously, and she nodded, "Then I wish you a bright future and that you shine on your own stage."
Ruan Xianxian felt that the biggest gain from this trip was the people she met in the military, who were different from the people she had met in the past.
They have different personalities, yet they are all as inclusive as the ocean.
When they returned to the kitchen, the side dishes were already prepared. Ruan Xianxian grabbed a large iron shovel, and a group of people rushed into the kitchen.
