What's missing from Chapter 93?

"It's a bit difficult to grow vertically, but horizontal development is possible. You can ask Xiaxia if you don't believe me."

Mu Xia: ? ? ?

The three women walked hand in hand into the restaurant. There weren't many people inside; it was 7 a.m., and most of the foreign guests were still asleep.

The three of them went to the window and picked up their favorite breakfasts.

Ruan Xianxian and Mu Xia both had corn porridge, with eggs served with a side of pickled vegetables.

Chen Zhaodi, however, wanted to try bread and jam.

Carrying her tray, Ruan Xianxian found a nearby table and sat down. She spoke first: "We arrived a week early, and I'd like to visit the various factories that are exhibiting."

Mu Xia had no objection. "I'm good at machinery, so I'd like to visit a machinery factory and start from there."

Ruan Xianxian already had her calculations in mind, while Chen Zhaodi remained silent for a moment, took a bite of bread, and licked the jam off her lips:

"Due to my upbringing, I am very sensitive to the likes and dislikes of those around me and their emotional changes. Staying with foreign guests may be helpful to our group."

Ruan Xianxian understood what she meant and affirmed, "Sure!"

If you can observe a foreign guest's preference for an item, or whether they are satisfied with the price, it's simply...

"The core of the team," Mu Xia said for her.

“Yes!” Ruan Xianxian clapped her hands together. “The core of the team.”

"Then it's settled. We'll go check out the factories after dinner. After all, the written descriptions in the documents are just a matter of imagination."

Ruan Xianxian added, "I'll ask the person in charge later if we can ride in the red and white cars parked at the entrance, which are used to pick up foreign guests to and from the factory and the restaurant."

“Okay.” Suddenly, a plate appeared on the table, and the newcomer sat down next to Ruan Xianxian. He had a few white hairs at his temples and was wearing a Zhongshan suit with four pockets.

He introduced himself in a friendly manner: "My name is Jia Yongjun. I am in charge of the coordination and scheduling of this exhibition. Are you young comrades translators from Ping'an County?"

"Excuse me! I overheard your conversation. I happen to be going to the machinery factory after dinner, so I can give you a ride along the way."

"That's great!" Ruan Xianxian said with a smile. "We'll take advantage of your kindness and go with you."

Flattery will never fail you, Jia Yongjun laughed out loud. The key was that the young comrade was good-looking, and his eyes were clear and bright when he looked up at people, exuding a kind of intelligence.

There was no deliberate attempt to flatter or fawn; it was as if she was naturally born with this quirky and clever nature.

"Okay! Eat quickly! After you finish eating, grab your food and we'll set off."

A black Shanghai sedan stopped in front of the gate. When the driver saw the leader coming out, with several female colleagues behind him, he got out of the car and opened the door.

Bored on the journey, Jia Yongjun asked the three of them where they learned English.

Ruan Xianxian rambled on: "My grandmother was a lady from a prominent family and had studied abroad. She taught me from a young age that language is a skill."

Study diligently and practice assiduously, so that you will be the first to step forward when the country needs you.

Hearing that the woman's grandmother had studied abroad, one can assume that she was either undergoing reform through labor on a farm or had passed away.

A barely perceptible hint of regret flashed across his eyes. What kind of farming would a scholar who had studied abroad do? It would be so much better if they all came to work as translators for him!

But Jia Yongjun only thought about it, without showing it on his face.

After talking about herself, she started talking about Mu Xia, "Her name is Mu Xia, and her situation is somewhat similar to mine. She was taught English by a teacher who had returned from studying abroad."

The three agreed that Chen Zhaodi was timid and Mu Xia wasn't particularly outgoing, so they would leave communication to Ruan Xianxian, who was talkative and loved to chat.

The public persona we've cultivated was also discussed before we parted last night!

She had a grandmother who had studied abroad. Mu Xia dug out a middle school teacher from the depths of her memory who had studied abroad, but unfortunately the teacher died during that event.

With no one to testify since the dead are dead and Mu Xia has a clean background, she can withstand any investigation.

As for Chen Zhaodi, she is an indigenous person with no special experience. She relied entirely on her hard work and diligence during her school years. Although her spoken English was not good, she served as the team's scribe.

After giving the introductions, Jia Yongjun was very satisfied with the three proactive, capable, and genuinely dedicated female comrades. He then casually asked:

"Have you all reviewed the materials? What are your thoughts on this exhibition in Heilongjiang Province?"

Old Feng brought in so many foreign guests in one go, which meant he had made a solemn pledge to the organization. If such a big move didn't generate enough foreign exchange, it would be difficult to get another chance in the future.

Thinking about the huge amount of revenue to be generated as indicated on the pledge, Jia Yongjun felt a headache coming on.

Ruan Xianxian thought about it carefully. Based on what she had read from the information, it was highly likely that Feng Guangda had been scammed. There had been no prior news that Heilongjiang Province was going to hold the Beijing Trade Fair.

Everything was accomplished in a very short time.

In Miyano's words, his father's strategy lay in his brilliant military tactics when fighting enemies on the battlefield, but his brain was just so-so. He couldn't handle the economic aspects that intellectuals played with.

After sorting out her thoughts, Ruan Xianxian said, "I'm very optimistic about it, but it's missing something."

"What's missing?" Jia Yongjun asked, intrigued.

Ruan Xianxian: "Silk from Jiangnan and milk candy from Shanghai are on the must-buy list for foreign guests visiting China. What about Heilongjiang Province? Is there anything that people must take away after visiting?"

Jia Yongjun seriously considered this question, and after a long pause, he said, "Steel!"

"Our province has independently designed and manufactured two converters, and our technology is far ahead in the country."

No one can deny the excellence of Northeast China's steel products, Ruan Xianxian smiled:

"Steel is good, but it's not something foreign guests absolutely need, sir! I mean, the kind of thing they'll definitely buy when they come, do you have any?"

This time, Jia Yongjun remained silent, his eyes filled with deep thought.

Finally, he glanced at Ruan Xianxian with a hint of regret: "Time is tight and the task is heavy. It's probably too late to prepare now!"
