Even though it's very safe on the mountain, it's still hard to sleep soundly. Early in the morning, just as dawn was breaking, everyone woke up.
"Everyone, please work hard. If we can finish the task today, we can go back a day early."
Everyone agreed with Li Defu's suggestion; who would want to freeze on the mountain if they could go back sooner?
However, things didn't go as smoothly as yesterday. After walking all morning, they hadn't even caught a rabbit. Everyone was quite frustrated and began to doubt the map in Li Defu's hands.
"Defu, are you sure the map you're holding is correct? Have we gone the wrong way?"
Li Defu held the map and compared it repeatedly, then frowned and said:
“I walk this road every winter, there’s absolutely no problem with it!”
"What's going on? We haven't seen a single thing all morning!"
There was no harvest, which meant they would have to stay on the mountain longer. Everyone was a little unhappy, quite different from yesterday when they roasted the whole lamb.
"Let's walk a little further; maybe there's something good up ahead!"
Disheartened, the group had no choice but to continue walking forward with Li Defu.
Just then, Jiang Xile clearly sensed something was wrong. Her sixth sense told her that she couldn't go any further.
"Brother Li!"
Jiang Xile's shout stopped them. Li Defu turned around and looked at Jiang Xile with some confusion, asking:
"Jiang Zhiqing, what's wrong?"
"Brother Li, I think there might be a problem ahead. Why don't we take a different route?"
"But this is the road marked on the map!"
Li Defu was conflicted. What if he changed his route and couldn't find more prey?
Another thing is that with heavy snow blocking the mountain passes, everything looks pretty much the same. What if you get lost?
"Brother Li, I think there might be a problem up ahead. Listen, it's too quiet around here, that's obviously not normal!"
"But isn't it normal for winter to be like this? In summer, you can at least hear birds chirping, but in winter, all the birds have flown away, and there aren't even any insects. Isn't it normal for it to be so quiet?"
Jiang Xile frowned; her intuition told her there was definitely something wrong ahead.
"Brother Li, why don't we scout ahead first? Send two fast runners to explore the area. It's always better to be safe than sorry!"
Li Defu pondered for a moment. Although he didn't quite understand what Jiang Xile's basis was for saying that, he figured it was better to be safe than sorry.
"Alright then, Zhao Da, Liu Hai, you two go ahead and scout ahead!"
"good!"
Zhao Da and Liu Hai readily agreed.
"Why bother exploring? Women are such a hassle!"
In the group, a villager muttered impatiently. Although his voice wasn't loud, it was quite noticeable in such a spacious area.
The other person probably didn't expect it to be so loud, and after speaking, they looked at Jiang Xile with a nervous expression.
Jiang Xile, however, had no time to pay attention to him at the moment, as she was focused on the figures of Zhao Da and Liu Hai in front of her.
Seeing this, everyone subconsciously ignored the person, but Qiu Wenbin glared at him fiercely.
Some of the men, feeling guilty, were too embarrassed to retaliate and simply lowered their heads sheepishly.
About five or six minutes later, Liu Hai and Zhao Da, who had come out, seemed to have really discovered something.
"Run! Run! There are wolves!"
As Zhao Da and Liu Hai ran back, they shouted to the crowd.
Upon hearing that there were wolves, everyone panicked. Just then, a pack of wolves leaped out of the woods and followed closely behind Liu Hai and Zhao Da.
The wolf pack was incredibly fast, and seeing that Zhao Da and Liu Hai were about to be caught, Li Defu became anxious and raised his hunting rifle to fire.
Jiang Xile counted them carefully; there were seven wolves in total, which reassured her.
"Don't panic, everyone. There are more than twenty of us. As long as we work together, how can we not defeat these seven wolves!"
"Yes, Jiang Zhiqing is right. Everyone grab your weapons, we can't leave our comrades behind, charge!"
Li Defu, holding his hunting rifle, led the group and charged forward. With that shout, their morale soared, and the seven wolves chasing Zhao Da and Liu Hai were momentarily stunned.
In that brief moment of lull, Li Defu fired two shots, but unfortunately, they missed the wolves.
The wolves seemed to be enraged by the gunshot and charged again. Jiang Xile didn't care about anything else, and picked up a few stones and threw them at them.
With good luck, a rock hit the alpha wolf directly on the head. Jiang Xile had put all her strength into it, and the alpha wolf immediately fell headfirst into the snow.
Seeing this, everyone was incredibly excited, as if they had been inspired. If a young girl could do it, why couldn't they, a group of grown men,?
So many people picked up stones from the ground and threw them at the wolf pack.
Having learned from their previous experience, the wolf pack began to dodge. Soon, the wolf pack reached the group, and the alpha wolf, which had been knocked unconscious, shakily got up.
Qiu Wenbin stayed close to Jiang Xile, afraid that she might accidentally hurt him. Even though he was not as powerful as Jiang Xile at the moment, he was willing to risk his life to protect her.
Mao Gang and the others followed behind Jiang Xile and Qiu Wenbin, though they were only doing so to protect themselves.
The battle between humans and werewolves is about to break out. Zhao Da and Liu Hai successfully rejoined the team. Although they fell, they were not injured.
Twenty-six people, all armed, faced seven vicious wolves. Even though they were terrified inside, they forced themselves to pretend to be fierce.
The alpha wolf strode forward, baring its teeth and staring fiercely at everyone. Its cold gaze swept over each person before finally settling on Jiang Xile and Li Defu.
